Most electric devices are shielded by their shell enough that few, if any stray EM rays could penetrate it. I do not see this as a way to power a computer, just mobile devices, and I would keep it far removed from my computer, or anything else it could harm. Any device made for wireless power would be made specifically to resist the EM rays.
Does it matter? How much tax can there possibly be on a 99 cent song download. If this is passed, the feds could get the same idea. I am in favor of it because I don't know anybody who actually pays for music anymore, much less uses iTunes. Your average schmo will end up donating $5 to help schools stay afloat. Not a huge deal.
This is an field that the U.S. needs to spend money on NOW. They need to fix, regulate, and upgrade all of their systems in order to keep from being annihilated. The U.S. is not even competitive digitally anymore, because our politicians do not seem to realize the massive role it plays in our daily life. Hopefully Obama will remedy this, but who knows?
Apple? Really? No cab driver has ever asked you about Android because they tend to be damaged people on short fuses, and few cab drivers I know have displayed any aptitude for technology. Apple is not the power that is rising to challenge Microsoft for the Software throne. The only reason they were ever competitive was because they made the iPod. The iPod has now reached saturation, anybody who wants one already has one, and their computers are too expensive in this economic climate. All of Apple's main revenue streams are drying up at once, and even Jobs will not be able to save them. If Apple ever needed a revolution, now would be the only time that can save them.
Does anybody really love IE anymore. There are so many more secure open source browsers that using the
Microsoft utility that came with the computer seems like it cannot possibly be the best choice
Nothing and music group proposes can possibly be good for us. Besides, I intend to never give any money to the studio labels, because they will probably just use that money to sue me. It is a terrible idea, eventually a precedent will be set and the RIAA will go and die in a hole like it should
There is a good reason why the broadband companies are opposed this. It will bankrupt them. Once everybody had free internet, the only people wh will want it to be faster are the torrenters, and so the ISPs will have to spend more and more money trying to compete with each other. I currently have high speed, and this would not help me in the slightest. If this was introduced, it would have to be censored, That makes sense, so the U.S. would have to try, and would fail to secure the internet. All in all, it is a bad idea, one which had no chance of actually being implemented withiin our lifetimes
I agree with this. Cops would have means to find illegal materials, such as music, that could send you to jail even if they don't have enough evidence to press the original charges. I think that there should be a law that disallows charges brought based on evidence collected from the computer that they were not explicitly searching for
Google has done a fantastic job with Chrome, it could well prove to be the app that kills Explorer. That said, however, I use a Firefox clone. The only difference besides the logo, is built in torrent support. I know Google likely will not add this, I am not switching browsers until they do.
By the way, a great browser with built in torrent support is called Wyzo, it is secure and amazing. Go download it.
Virtually nothing we do on the internet is ever really Anon. everybody keeps track of activity and can give it to the government if they really want it. even with that being so, I think that Anonymity is key to the internet. How will anybody force every server to keep records of users? That would cost millions, and those that really need the anonymity for illegal purposes will simply take thier servers offshore.
The internet is anonymous, it will always be so
Netbooks will never catch on. Why use a mini laptop when you can just have an expensive phone that has more processing power? Microsoft didn't see the internet coming, but when it happened, they jumped on the bandwagon real fast, and with their customary
nastiness.
Besides, since when did Microsoft make hardware????
I think it happens more like this,
a fat man sits on the couch playing smash bros brawl, when he gets destroyed by some korean, he gets angry and chucks the wiimote. Since he wasn't wearing the strap, he then breaks it so he can sue Nintendo
Do we really need NASA to do anything but put satellites up there. They need to keep our GPS and cells working, but the moon seems kind of stupid. Can we forgo national pride in favor aid in light of these economic difficulties? I think that someone needs to take a great big hatchet to the NASA budget, it would free up between 6 & 7 billion dollars
At some point, we have to conclude that we are good. Silicon is likely the best material for chips, and will continue to stay that way. other materials have been tried (Germanium was the first) but silicon took precedence because it was cheap and efficient, and I don't see any reason to change that
What in Apple's history suggests that they could possibly go open source. They don't even have an unrestricted app store. Steve Jobs seems unwilling or unable to go open source, and I think that that is the right choice for him. It is the job of the existing software companies to be supplemented by free, open source OSs, like Android. Major software companies that are already established won't go open source, because that won't impact the average customer. Most of those who buy an iPhone want an all inclusive phone, not to mod it, but to make calls on it. This would be a bad move for Apple, but would probably pursuade me to buy an iPhone
I very much agree. It is the responsibility of the user to regulate traffic in and out of their PC. The best we can do is educate those who can. The internet is not without it's dangers, and we cannot remove those. this means it is up to the end user to make sure they know what they are doing before they do anything dangerous
Macs cannot compete with Microsoft because of Steve Jobs' compulsive need to throw innovation down our throats. Do we really need yet another iPod? I don't think so. Microsoft is working on OS 7, where Apple has gone far above that in much less time then Microsoft. Why? To allow them to feel superior by adding inconsequential new shiny features. Macs concentrate on unnecessary new appearance stuff. The only reason they are recognized as more secure is because Macs haven't attracted the market share that will allow the big time hackers to really go to work
I think that having a scientist rather then an administrator is key for change in the Obama administration because it shows that people who actually know their fields will be chosen to lead them. Also, as a Nobel winner, he has been proven to be extremely intelligent and a good choice
The U.S. is the one with the most bombs on the ground, does it really matter if we lose some of our national secrets, because if it really comes to shooty-shooty, everyone is boned anyway. Cyber warfare is just a little fringe war that doesn't really matter, so just leave it and try to deal with the attacks
There is indeed a cyberwar, but it is not as threatening or pervasive as our government and the media would like us to think. I think that this is an internal problem that should be dealt with by the government behind closed doors without spreading the kind of hysteria that will allow them to regulate internet traffic
i own and love a 30gb Zune, and i am happy that Microsoft is getting good press. Apple has an undeserved share of the market, and the Zune is a great product.
go buy one

The mouse is the perfect instrument for minimal work. Besides, how can you shoot NAZIs with a touch screen. I NEEDS A MOUSE

I plan on use it to model proteins for my Science Olympiad team without upgrading the processor with our limited team budget
