    Which BlackBerry did you get? I recently got a new 8700g to replace my old 7230 and I think it IS the tricorder I hoped it would be. With the EDGE network and the horsepower inside I love that damn thing (my wife is jealous!)

    No shit. I had a Samsung E715 (just say no, btw) through almost all of 2004 and it had the feature to silence the ringer or send the call directly to voicemail using the volume adjust buttons on the side.

    Exactly.. You'd think a filesystem recovery tool would be more stable than that.

    Here I was thinking "oh, it's a journaling filesystem, all I have to do is run this nifty tool and it'll correct any problems, after all, this is why I'm using this filesystem, right?" and the next thing I see is a segfault.

    It's not your "right" to get on the plane. It's very simple. If you want to get on it, you agree to comply by the screening rules. Your rights are not being taken away here, you don't have to fly if it's that big of a deal for you.

    I was actually thinking of simply switching to Verilog. One language doesn't really offer any advantages over the other anyway.

    Yea.. the only difference is that one (Verilog) is actually used outside of government/military projects and academia.

    Since when does competitive price slashing drive whole sectors out of business? The ones that have a better business model and do things more efficiently will survive, others won't.

    Mind you, however, this is true where these businesses aren't competing against a monopoly which can undercut prices at their loss. In either way though, there is at least one company left providing the service of the sector.

    I don't think they get the point that the national do-not-call registry allows cell phone numbers to be registered.

    My cell number was registered on the list as soon as it was started. Telemarketers would have a nice $11k fine if they called me on it.

    IANAL, but I thought "prior art" meant publicly explained methodology to do something prior to the filing of the patent at hand. It doesn't matter if ICQ or whatever else program had this capability, the fact that they didn't make their methodology public (which is usually done through an RFC-like document or by filing a patent) makes them unfit to be prior art.

    But then again, I may be pulling this out of my ass.

    *I* am ignorant? Did you even read my post? I said it's not an up-to-date slack distro, which means that I would need slack packages made with a hell of a lot of old libraries. Have you ever tried looking for new gnome packages for slack, say, 3.2? 7?

    1) Re-read my post. I said Slackware was my distribution. I use it because it is by far the most reliable and easy-to-use (I define easy-to-use as: I can do exactly what I want with it exactly the way I want to do it without any obstruction or "help" from the distro). I have slackware machines running releases dating back several years, and I've kept the machines up-to-date myself. As I've already stated, I don't like to reinstall everytime a new release comes out.
    2) The lack of a package tool pretty much means jack shit to me when compared to just about anything else in a distro.
    3) Kudos to you for having your machine install a bunch of crap automatically on your machine.
    4) You sir, are a fucking moron.

    After seeing what kind of a library dependency hell GNOME is in during my last attempt to upgrade, I think I'll pass.

    Unless you're using a "do-it-for-me" distro with an automatic package utility, installing GNOME is an easy way to lose some hair. I use Slackware (not an up-to-date release, but don't blame the distro, I compile and use everything else just fine -- plus, if I installed the new distro release everytime one came out how would that be different than using windows?) and my last attempt was a day-long coffee-binge of punching walls. Everytime I had to compile a package it required another, which required another, .... (think 10+ deep nested ./configure's).

    Fuck that, no thanks.

    Repeat after me: exaggeration. Good.

    I used 2 of the main mobile companies in Turkey when I was there 3 years ago. Neither had a plan like the one I described (a set number of minutes free a month) or free long distance and both had incredibly high rates per-minute compared to the plan I described.

    Do you have free long distance? My national long distance bill before I got free long distance with my cell phone was well over $50. And I still make the same amount of long distance calls and they cost me $0 on top of my cell phone bill.

    Yea, I pay $42 for 500 weekday daytime minutes, *unlimited* night (after 9 I believe, when I make most of my calls anyway) and weekend minutes, *all* including national long distance. And oh, I don't pay roaming anywhere my cell phone company has service, which is basically any metro area in the US.

    Man, that's really fucked up isn't it? I'd much rather pay $0.50/min on every call I place like I used to when I used a cell phone in Europe a few years back.
