Quite a lot of people tend to name themselves by name / initials / nickname + "soft".
At least I know about 5 of them and all of them are not even native english speakers. For example Darka Soft, GS Soft. Even I started my software writing career under name LJ Soft. LJ = my initials.
sure static CMS is not the answer to everything. It's just that dynamic CMS is not the answer to everything either. Sure page serving performance issues are solvable. It's just that: 1. it is inconvenient to me to use browser to edit the information. 2. you usually have to set up the database and CMS system on the server and this is not alway possible
By the way Qixite allows embeding php (or ASP) or any other embedable code.
Usually, when you have to present your ideas on the web you do not need all those complicated content management systems. Ususually you want to present just idea in well structured manner without any fancy features.
Currently there are 2 tools that allow you to do generate static web sites while defining only structure of web site and content:
Hi, here in Lithuania (eastern Europe) we had case of stolen domain few days ago (last thursday). I mean Vladas Palubinskas has created site Lithuania on Line five years ago it was very valuable resource on Lithuania and Lithuanian sites and it had as much as 3000 hits a day lately... Lithuanian company Skaitmenines Komunikacijos offered him to buy him domain name online.lt and pay for him also (as they saw this as a valuable advertisment). Valadas Palubinskas agreed. He worked on site Lithuania on Line, updated it on daaily baisis for five years... Month ago Skaitmenines Komunikacijos was acquired by Microlink... and Microlink offered some money for the domain name online.lt to Palubinskas, but he rejected offer, and then Microlink just redirected online.lt to delfi.lt (their own portal...) Though everything is legal (Skaitmeninines komunikacijos has bought and paid taxes for domain name) it was very unethical move from the side of Microlink, and most lithuanians consider this as stealing... Sure changing name is no good under normal circumstances. But changing name from FireBird to something is good.
My rule is simple: ambiguity is bad.

So you BSD users are having trouble with this SCO stuff as well.. :)
Damn McBride
Are you sure all of them are lawyers? I'd say most of those SCO guys are PR specialists.
Why would a 3rd party have to pay? If there were an infriging code in Linux kernel this would just mean that:

Oh no, I will not be able to create empty files as they are copyrighted. :(
/usr/bin/touch obviously infriges the copyright...
Factory does not mean low quality. Factory usually means quantity and lower price.
Some companies became big just because they made high quality things.
Sure this must have been those Gentoo users :)...
Oh wait, they would not have time for that because they spend their time compiling Gentoo...
So where can I find the screenshot of libcaca showing this so called pr0nography? :)
I believe this has already been patented and discussed here on slashdot before - Software Installation/Update via Internet Patented
Does anyone have any problems with that?
Their http://sitefinder.verisign.com is clean and nice page (much like Google).
They provide people with nice search page. MS Internet Explorer does almost exactly the same.
Basically the people who are affected by this mostly are MS Internet Explorer users - they get non MSN based search instead of MSN one.
And even if they put some ads later, is there anything wrong with that?
And you can easily disable this on you machine (/etc/hosts)
Hm... I guess Linus, Alan and some other people would be rich after the first release... :)
Err, yeah right! Iraq is benefitting right now, I would say.
Yeah, Sadam regime was very human and americans ruined everything now.
I haven't lived in Sadams regime, but I did in Soviet one and I do not see much difference between these two.
I am happy that my country is now free from Soviet regime and I belive that most Iraqis are happy to get rid of Sadam.
You can use Qixite - it is a static CMS.

Hi acostin,

By the way Qixite allows embeding php (or ASP) or any other embedable code.
:) I hate all those online CMSs - they are slow and inconvenient to use.
Static page generators are much more suitable for most tasks.
Usually, when you have to present your ideas on the web you do not need all those complicated content management systems. Ususually you want to present just idea in well structured manner without any fancy features.
Currently there are 2 tools that allow you to do generate static web sites while defining only structure of web site and content:
Qixite (Open source, Linux & Windows): http://qixite.sourceforge.net
and
CityDesk (Commercial, Windows only):
http://www.fogcreek.com/CityDesk
These tools are usually enough, and you do not need to set anything up on the server side because these programs generate static html files.
