    The amount of money that it would save consumers would be incredible... free municiple wireless can be implemented for a tiny fraction of the money that is spent on an individual basis.

    this would eventually lead to the death of telcos, so you can imagine the forces that want to stop this.

    all those wonderful armaments depend on one thing... fuel. It would be very easy for a few people to cut off the supply of fuel to the goverment through sabotage... then the playing field is level.
    there are more dedicated gun nuts in the usa than anywhere in the world.
    the iragi 'insurgents' are not dedicated gun nuts.

    what product are you talking about? the wma format? most test have shown that for the most part wma and the aac format are pretty close in quality...

    it is a really dumb anecdote, there are plenty of great non-ipod players (at least from the standpoint of reliability)

    they were referring to the carbon-fiber sail in an atmosphere, where they first observed the effect.
    Since there is no oxygen in space, no carbon monoxide is formed, so it wont work.

    they are looking for a coating that emits gas when heated... lithium borohydride comes to mind.

    The special thing about Fortran is that you can process a whole vector instead of using a for() loop. This makes it easy for compilers to break up tasks among multiple processors.

    Most of the software patents are done to protect against other companies patents. IBM doesn't lose any value giving away its defensive patents to open source.

    in europe there has been attempts to commercialize biodiesel made from rapeseed oil (raised just for this purpose)
    It isn't really economically competitive with fossil fuel by maybe a factor of 2, but as reserves dry up it will become attractive.
