this reminds me that since finishing my exams 2 days ago. Ive had nothing to do. Perfect time to play burnout paradise and check out the new dlc. 3. Re:Repeat file sharers get bandwidth restriction? on UK Government Announces Broadband Tax · · Score: 1

Im use orange broadband and i have the supposedly "unlimited" package. I get about 6mbps from the 8mbps. According to orange I should be getting about 4.5mbps but they probably made some error when calculating my speed. 6mbps is plenty fast enough for me. About 3 months ago, i had just finished one set of exams so had a bit of free time. At that time I was spending time watching HD videos a lot. I had nothing better to do so i downloaded loads of ps3 demos as well just to kill time(left it on overnight). Then the next month i noticed that my connection was ridiculously slow. Turns out, the previous month I downloaded 72 gigs worth of stuff so my connection has been permanently capped to 256kbps during 6pm and midnight everyday. My point is.....why the hell should I have to pay for high speed internet access for all when I get penalised for using my broadband connection as it was advertised? This tax is probably gonna pay for fibre connection to all households but its gonna be pretty redundant if you are not allowed to use all the extra speed possible due to the new wires.

What you say might actually come to pass if it wasn't for all the nuclear warheads that the US posses. "Ex-Superpower Turned Whiney Cheese Eating Surrender Monkeys" made me laugh. Its funnier if you have ever been to france and heard how some french people talk about France's doings in WW2.

Something like that has to be dealt with appropriate punishment. I'm quite annoyed with orange as well. They are my isp as well and are being stupid. I have my broadband permanantly capped at peak usage hours (6pm to midnight) from 8mbps to 256kbps because last month I downloaded 72 gigs. This is fucking stupid as I have what you call one of those "unlimited" packages and am considerate enough to download stuff (large files) after midnight. Meh...its probably my own fault for not reading the fine print.

  6. most annoying thing...... on How To Help a Friend With an MMO Addiction? · · Score: 1

The most annoying thing about having friends who play MMOs is that they think other people actually care when they talk endlessly about their game. Going out and doing stuff also doesn't seem to work. A friend of mine has a girlfriend, goes to university, goes out socializing but still makes time for his MMO.

I know what you mean. Hell, even $100 ain't cheap enough for me since I don't game on the computer or even if i do they aren't new games. The radeon hd 3450 that came with my laptop is perfect for me cuz i watch a lot of HD video. Only gripe is that this card can't run Psychonauts (which is one of my favourite games) at a decent frame rate with all the settings maxed. It really sucks considering its a game from 2005 with ps2 graphics. Other than that this card is perfect.

  11. people still talk about this? on Why Linux Is Not Yet Ready For the Desktop · · Score: 1

Linux has never worked perfectly for me. Sure, it works out of the box or it seems to be working initially upon install. Then suddenly on the next bootup X dies on me. How can people say that Linux "just works" when something as trivial as sound working properly has me searching different forums for hours. Don't get me wrong. I'm all for linux. Having to use windows right now is a necessity even though it is a big resource hog but its the only option I have as I don't have time to tinker with my OS to make sure it works properly. The reason I like linux is because of the way it can be customised. Windows can be maintained to be as fast and as responsive as linux(also if its vista then decent specs are also needed). The issue here is the "maintainance". You need to have a few different applications to keep it from slowing down after a while. Lets not forget the antivirus which isin't even required by linux. I like linux but I'm gonna stick with windows for the time being as it just isin't worth it for me to waste hours just so my computer works how its supposed to anyway. There is nothing really inherently wrong with windows. Both linux and windows are viable on desktops. People talk about the steep learning curve in linux which doesn't matter if you use ubuntu. I got my mother to learn using ubuntu in less than 10 minutes when the windows on the family desktop computer died. My mother prefers linux for everything except for work as open office really cannot be compared to MS office. She sends people word documents and the formatting is always screwed up.

I was really surpried when windows didn't start. Surprise turned to dread after about 15 minutes of constantly turning the computer on and off with no success. Then i started crying as i thought I broke the computer. Then my dad came home from work and I told him I broke the computer. He had a look at it, smiled and then took out the floppy. Much to my relief the computer worked again. Stupid computer tried to boot from a blank floppy. Since that day I have developed a hatred of floppies.

  13. whats the point? on Virgin Media UK Pilots 200Mbps Broadband Speeds · · Score: 1

seriously. my friend has the most expensive broadband package they offer and yes it is really really awesomely fast. Only downer being that it gets throttled for a few hours if downloads exceed 5gb in 24 hours. This is where the problem lies. He is willing to pay more if they provide a TRUELY unlimited package. They never will.
