Dang, if a cops shotgun in their car freaked you out you should try going to Ireland. I was in western Ireland for a few weeks (Ballina to be exact) and happened to be around when they were delivering the money to the banks. There must have been about 20 military people on the streets each with assault rifles (not big on guns so I don't know what they were exactly). Needless to say there were no bank robberies that day.
Yeah, and it looks like the goldpass is 9.95/month. You get a lot more than just MLB though. I am not seeing where you can get just MLB for $10 a season.
Yeah, the data is pretty worthless. However unlike Comet Curosr or Real Player, or any of the other things you mentioned, Tivo actually provides a very useful service using the data.
And quite frankly what the hell would my boss care if I watch porn sometimes? I don't work for the church. I work in the technology industry which is partly driven by porn. As long as it does not interfere with my work I could be a raging crackhead and they wouldn't care. The only people who should be worried are the slackers who don't do crap at work in the first place. Then it is just an excuse to get rid of their lazy asses.
Stop being so paranoid. Nobody cares about you. You are unimportant.
I saw a mjor speed bump on an Imac DV SE I was using when I installed OS X Public Beta on it. It has a G3 400. The OS is much snappier than the 9.1 it had before. Too bad I didn't have any OS X apps to play with more, just what it came with. I would definately suggest every Mac user upgrade ASAP if your system is compatible.
It looks like a magazine or newspaper article now. No big deal if you ask me, I have been used to this sort of thing ever since I started reading the newspaper.
While I would agree that such information is unforgable now I really doubt it will stay that way. DNA is just information after all, and remember if we can see it we can copy it.
Besdies I could always just cut off your hand and get through your fingerprint/dna security.:)
I envision a computer of the future knowing who I am by the way I act. So I sit down and have a nice short little chat with my computer and it logs me in because it knows who I am by the way I talk to it. A bit of a crazy idea, but I think it would be neat.
Here are some statistics. This is from the International Crime Victims survey performed by a UN agency. England had a HUGE jump between 88 and 91. Any theories on this (not too familiar with current events in England myself)? Interestingly it looks like most of Europe increased in crime while US went down (probably due to big economic boom we experienced).
One of the central tenets of communism and Bakunin anrachism is atheism. Sure the anarchists and the communists leaders could be considered aberations, never the less they killed people because of their religion. The same could be said of the Iniquisators(sp?) and crusaders. The general theme of communism and christianity is the betterment of man, but there are always greedy people who clothe themselves in a movement to gain power for themselves. A few bad apples do not spoil the whole bunch. There are good christians and atheists like there are bad christians and atheist.
The beer can in a trash can is a bad analogy. They did not confiscate all computers in the dorm, just one.
A better analogy is a beer can with someones name on it is found. That person's dorm fridge is confiscated. There is REAL evidence to support this action. Whether they committed the crime or not will be determined in the court.
And the webpage in a browser cache? That is really stretching it. Do you really think that the University is THAT dumb? Are they going to bring a lawsuit agains yahoo now because they found their webpage on the computer too?
Let me ask you this. If you found someones webpage on your server (in a directory not a browser cache) and the webserver is actually serving those pages, would you then agree that it is possible that a crime has been commited? Is it possible that this is the exact scenario that has occurred at Kent State?
The first line of the code which is:
execute e7iqom5JE4z(...)
... Is the actual code. The rest of the message is the decrypter, created as function e7iqom5JE4z. So it calls e7iqom5JE4z to decrypt the code then executes it.
At least I think so, I haven't used VB in a while, I am kind of guessing what execute does but looks right to me.
The cops supposedly raid the dorm room because of the website. Yet the website is still up. Then one of the students say they somehow contacted the wrong server when uploading the website? Uhh, OK.
I am guessing that either they were seriously harrasing people over the net, email bombs or some DOS attacks, or they were trying to crack someones system. We need to get the whole story before damning the cops on this one.
No I wouldn't use it. That is my point, to me it is akin to taking notes by writing on the wall or on the desk. I have my pad to take notes on. I am used to this, it is how I work. I have no problem opening a text editor (piking up my pad) to take notes with. It just seems too disorganized to start entering text anywhere.
I really don't see how you are saving anything by doing this either. So you have to click on some area of the desktop, then start typing, and the computer opens the text in an editor of some kind. How is that different from clicking a shortcut to a text editor and entering text. Really it is just a new way of launching the editor which I don't see a use for.
It is possible that a layperson could find this more intuitive, but, not being a layperson, I can't see it. Of course that is why I don't design UI.:)
Someone in Chrysler's design department really likes the 30/40/50 era of cars (not a big car nut, so not positive on exact era). The PT Cruiser and this are definately influenced by that period. Just as long as we don't start getting those giant fins again...
I wouldn't go that far. SUVs have been shown to have a much higher rollover rate than a normal sized car. Rollovers are very bad.
I can understand SUVs for many people. It is the loosers in LA who buy SUVs because they are hip which give them a bad name. I was recently in Texas on business, the client commented that "thats the state car of Texas" pointing to an SUV. I replied it is the same in LA, except in Texas you actually have mud on the car. (ie it is actually used for what it is meant for)
I've not actually seen any DivX;) movies yet, but what I've been reading seems to indicate that there IS a loss of quality when you "crunch down" the DVD data for CDs, so I would expect the situation to be analogous to videotape or cassette copying, in legal terms.
Well yeah, but you are forgetting the MPAA marketroid spin on this. DivX;) is digital so you can make perfect copies, etc. It makes me laugh when I hear people say that just because something is digital it is so superior.
This is a very similar model that Thief employed some 2 years ago. You could play it as a hack and slash type game, but if you upped the difficulty level to Hard or above you lost the game if you killed anybody. You had to sneak around and knock people out with a blackjack.
Thief didn't sell all that well, despite getting rave reviews and being a great game. The company that made it, Looking Glass Studios, went bankrupt just this year shortly after releasing a sequel.
So I wonder if this is a sellable idea. Thief didn't have nearly the eye candy that MGS2 has, so that might effect sales. Sounds like an interesting game.
Actually the big telemarketing firms are easy to avoid. When you answer the phone the computer dialed telemarketers take a second to transfer your call to one of their waiting minions. So if no one answers you immediately after saying hello, hang up. I haven't listened to a long distance pitch in years. Sure it takes a couple of seconds of your time, but it is no big deal and it is easier than getting your name removed from their list. I am lazy.:) (Though I suppose it would take less work overall to just get my name removed...)
Dams are not very clean. They can cause HUGE amounts of environmental damage.
The real problem with CA is deregulation, not a good idea for power. Now the power companies are trying to maximize profits by cutting costs. That means goodbye to any unnesseccary pollution reduction measure.
The people in LA can handle 10 digit dialing just fine, they just don't want it. So they tell the phone company no thanks and they get 7 digit dialing back. I guess the folks in Atlanta (and most other places of the country) are just pushovers who do whatever "the man" tells them.
Doesn't look like it. Their financials are not looking pretty. I think it is too expensive, they cannot get critical mass because of this. We will see.
While Rambus was a big screwup for the P3 market, it is looking like it is the correct solution for the P4. Most of the benchmarks are pointing to the increased memory bandwidth as contributing to its performance.

Cool, thanks. Check out from 2/21 on, a bunch of RIAA and Napster stuff.

This hardly sounds like a free speech issue.

This sort of trivial note-taking is common to all of us, it would make sense for an OS to support it.
I don't know what kind of notes you take, but I usually pick up my pad of paper and start taking notes on IT. I don't just start writing on the wall.
Someone in Chrysler's design department really likes the 30/40/50 era of cars (not a big car nut, so not positive on exact era). The PT Cruiser and this are definately influenced by that period. Just as long as we don't start getting those giant fins again...

You come upon the same dilemna that censorware authors face. Who decides what is ethical?
that's probably pretty much the same w/ a floor full of cubicles.
Yeah, especially when your coworkers are a bunch of idiots who think that walkway = conference room.
