As long as I can remember privacy policies have been of the nature that "We don't want to watch you, but if we need to we will." What everyone seems to leave ambiguous is what constitutes the need to monitor someone. Perhaps defining this a little further will help. You could say something to the effect of "Monitoring is constituted, but not limited, by the following reasons: harassing other users, breaking the law..." You want to give the users a better idea of your goals without tying your hands.

Besides, what type of message does it send to have criminals working for your government? Would this not encourage more people to turn to a life of crime just to be hired away by their ever declining nation. How does it make ANY sense to reward bad with good?

Does anyone else remember what they were like at 14? It was all about the c0dez and the warez. I know that I wasn't mature enough to have enough moral standing to be trusted with such a position. What are these people thinking? I Wouldn't be surprised if the next headline we see is "India is off-line." Nothing aginst the youngster, but 14?!? Come on!

Hummmm let's think about this one. How brilliant can someone be who would easily and openly admit to such a thing?

There seem to be a lot of new certifications out there now. Personally I think most of these to be ploys to make some money off the certification craze. People hear the word certification and they associate it with one thing... money. Eventually these "deadly certifications" will degrade the value of the more esteemed cert's, such as the Cisco line and the M$ line. Bad news for the people who have these already.

Just be careful of what you do. The first job you take is generally what you will be doing for the rest of your career. If you are hired on as a DB2 guy someplace then you will be viewed as the DB2 guy for a long time. These impressions are a real pain to change. Your first step into a real job is the most important.
As to what to do... become a consultant and charge large corporations three times what they pay their employees to do the same thing.

Porn is not going to disappear from the net in 5 years! Well, at least not in the US anyway. Three reasons for this... One, filters can't keep up. There have to be 100's of new "bad sites" that come on-line on any given day. Two, US laws give protection to these sites there was a Supreme Court case not to long ago (forget the court reference) where a community was trying to filter porn through the towns only ISP and this was not allowed. Three, at peek business hours over 30% of traffic is related to pornography. Something this popular won't just disappear.

I tend to thing that people overlook power of disclosure. How many people are going to access porn site with their peers watching them? The simple solution is to have the computers placed in an area that is very visible to the librarian or teacher and everyone else in the area.
Chances are that such methods will not satisfy your supervisor... I've tried;-). I would not filter based on content but rather on site lists... there are many a free services that track pornography sites. Granted that with 30,000 new sites popping up on the net everyday the list will be near impossible to keep up with; but something is better than nothing.
The three restrictions that are placed on all speech, whether it is symbolic or not, are time, place, and manner. Clearly source code on a T-shirt passes all of these criteria. I seriously doubt that source code can be considered offensive or hateful speech. So, unless DeCSS is claimed to be a threat to national security (hahaha) they can't prevent its propagation, in any medium. It is unconstitutional for the government to limit speech based on content. If I wanted to wear a shit that said "The US licks my balls" then I am free to do that. The problem lays in that DeCSS isn't officially owned by and company or individual. Its easy to tell M$ to not distribute their latest version of windows (because it is crap)... but things under a GNU license (or and "free" software) are MUCH harder to control because they are pseudo-self-propagating. Killing the creator doesn't solve anything... these trials are a joke.
Hmm... ever hear of ThinClient? This is already here in a big way. Which is almost to bad becasue we all worked really hard to move away from a mainframe style of computing.
My god this was bitter! the sad part is that is true. It appears that the 'music underground' won't go away with napster though... there are a ton on clones out there already like napigator.
I was 12 years old when my dad brought home a copy of VB. I started doing the basic tasks with it... like having my comptuer wake me up in the morning etc etc etc. I would hands down choose VB for the young starting coder because of its point and click interface and basic structor and objects. You might even consider teaching them some HTML...
The problem, it would seem, is that systems such as file sharing really don't offer a reliable way to ensure the integrity of data. How much longer do you think it will be before there are groups of people that quest to destroy such networks by saturation them with bogus files or even worse viruses. You sacrifice a great deal of trust and integrity when using a file-sharing system.

yes, you could do it... he could also sue you for everything you have and win. A personal attack on a person an entirely different realm.
dude! go for it! I will host the pics for you!
