You ought to watch a Hindi (Indian) movie sometime. They'll switch back-and-forth between their own language and English fluently. It's creating a strange amalgam of two languages. I imagine England in the 1100s was much the same way, with people flipping back-and-forth between the native Anglish and the ruling Frankish languages. Now today we have a language whose originating words are half English and half French.
As for "tweet" and "google" I think they should be classified as slang and avoided for use in writing. Maybe in 50 years the word will be standard but more likely it will fall out of style, like most slang words do.
>>>in reality the guys they shot at had a rocket launcher.
It was a CAMERA ya dumb fuck. Didn't you read the accompanying text? The U.S. soldiers shot-and-killed reporters. And in the second video they killed a van full of children. I'm glad this leaked - the People deserve to know how U.S. leaders are terrorizing citizens in these foreign countries. In my book they are no better than Osama Bin Laden.
>>>In free and democratic societies, an individual deciding on his or her own to leak classified information is a subversion of that very democratic process.
Bullshit. The democratic process doesn't work when the People don't know that their leaders are child murderers (see the leaked video). It's no different than BP's attempted coverup of their oil spill, in order to mislead investors . Let the light of liberty shine on the dark places our leaders attempt to hide from us.
Now THAT'S my kind of newspaper.;-) I think the Wikileaks founder should ignore the Pentagon. The leaking of video showing soldiers killing reporters, children, and other innocents is exactly what this country needs to erase the myth that government is "good" for us. Or that leaders can be trusted. Fucking bastards. They promised to end this damn war years ago, and yet here we are. The only way it will end is if, like Vietnam, we turn public opinion against the war and the government.
>>>One thing I like about voice-only on phone calls is that I can be naked
The one thing I LIKE about video calls is that my girlfriend can be naked, and I can watch.:-) Webcam chatting has become popular with teens, and I bet Video iPhone calls will too. They are young, thin, and naturally beautiful. They don't mind being seen.
It's only us older folks (30 and up) that don't want to be seen, due to sagging skin, expanding waistline, or whatever .
Why wouldn't you have a Wii? It's the number 1 selling console. Not having a Wii is like not having a PS2, PS1, Super Nintendo, NES or Atari (previous generations' best sellers).
The justification for the constant upgrades was to get better graphics and play, as each version moved from 32 bit to 64 bit and so on, but consoles have now peaked (1920x1080 and million of colors), so there's no longer any reason to keep buying the same game over and over
>>>You can't expect companies to just give away their services
You are correct. I'm beginning to understand why people between the ages of 15 and 29 are being called the Entitlement Generation. They expect to get unlimited data downloads for a mere $30 a month. Sorry kids, but that's not how the world works.
Nintendo 64's awesome-to-crap ratio was better. Mario, Banjo-Kazooie (twice), Zelda (twice), Goldeneye, Star Wars Racer, Fzero, Super Smash Bros, and on and on and on. IMHO. Of course if you go by sheer numbers, PS1 had the most good games.
I wonder if Sega will be porting games that were not already ported to PS2 or the Gamecube years ago. I've played both Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi to death. I'm kinda sick of them, and would like something new from Sega.
>>>They just get the option of paying for the school's crazy Macbook program either directly or via taxes.
Yes. They also pay taxes when they don't send their kids to school at all (i.e. homeschool). Or for Amtrak even if you've never set foot on a train. That's the unfairness of a monopoly in a nutshell. It's the government equivalent of having to send $1000 to Microsoft every year, even if you never use MS operating systems.
In European countries the money follows the kid, so if they choose to go to Apple Elementary or Montessori Ed, or wherever, then the dollars go there. So if the parent decides this MacBook idea is stupid, he can just quit that school and go somewhere else. There's no negative consequences of that decision.
No. It's called an OPINION. Please learn the difference moderator. You don't have to like my opinion, but you don't have to punish me by subtracting points either. Learn tolerance
I bet some resourceful geek will find a way to do his homework on an IBM PC or Linux PC. I recall teachers telling me to do such-and-such at home on a PC, and I said "screw that" and did it on my Commodore Amiga instead.
The person below me made the point about parents paying for these MacBooks via taxes. Yes. They also pay taxes when they don't send their kids to school at all (i.e. homeschool). That's the unfairness of a monopoly in a nutshell. It's the government equivalent of having to send $1000 to Microsoft every year, even if you never use MS operating systems.
Yeah that worked great in 2008 didn't it? We traded one anti-individual liberty guy for another anti-liberty guy. We traded one corporatist for another corporatist.
What we need is a change in the Constitution so that it can effectively limit the government. The EU would have a similar but differently-worded variant. Like so:
The "Protect the 9th and 10th Amendments" Act.
----- Proposed Amendment XXVIII. Section 1. After a Bill has become Law, if one-half of the State legislatures declare the Law to be "unconstitutional" it shall be null and void. It shall be as if the Law never existed. ----- SECTION 2. The Supreme Court will have the authority to review cases, and as part of the ruling declare these cases constitutional or unconstitutional, however the decision by the States (section 1) shall be superior.
>>>>>>Whatever it takes to damage Microsoft is okay with me. >> >>This doesnt punish MS, it punishes end users and admins
Until the users wise-up and jump to MacOS, AmigaOS, or LinuxOS. THEN that's when it punishes Microsoft. It's the Toyota affect - bad news scares away customers.
Wireless costs too much. We're talking $50/month versus $7. I'll stick with Netscape ISP . >>>I don't understand how anything Netscape is still around
At one point or another, you've used Firefox, seaMonkey or Flock haven't you? Their source (mozilla) was created by Netscape, so yes it's still around. As for the browser, its latest version is NN9 from 2008.
Yeah except it wasn't just this Vista PC. My Windows XP machine came with Microsoft Office, as does my Windows 98 laptop. I thought that was standard procedure - the restore disc includes BOTH Windows and Office - so I found it strange to hear someone say it doesn't.
>>>I imagine my scanner OEM will say something pretty similar about Windows 7
Doubt it. Since Windows 7 == NT 6.1 and Vista == NT 6.0, you probably won't have any problem. Seven is just Vista SP2 - it can use Vista drivers without any problem.
>>>You said right there that p2p piracy is the "same thing" as open sourc
No I didn't. I said the *falling value of wages* (time worth 10% as much) is the same phenomenon affecting both OSS and Media industries. Not immediately of course, but over time that's what will happen. Ease-of-access to free stuff by consumers will drive down the wages for the creators.
Next time try reading the WHOLE message, not just the first two sentences.
Good point about the Wireless. The spectrum is indeed limited (as is space for the cell towers), so it's not really the government's fault. . >>>the shoes are being produced for dimes in china, but STILL being sold from exorbitant prices in usa. yet, NO company is dropping prices and creating a price war.
Dimes? I don't think they are that cheap but even if they are, you've forgotten the cost of shipping. First by ship across the world's largest ocean, and then by truck to the various stores' central warehouses (typically in places like Iowa), and then again by truck to each individual store. That adds up.
And yes prices have dropped. I remember buying Nike sneakers circa 1995 for $50 or more. On sale. But last month I got a near-identical pair for a mere $20. And if you're really poor you could buy some no-name brand for $10.

NetZero and Juno still impose that 10 hour time limit. You get the first 10 hours for free, and then if you want "unlimited" time you have to pay.

Prithee be true.
Because a future with Microsoft is as horrible to contemplate as a future run by Cardassians.
So just like the real world. :-)
