By better support in Xfree86, I mean actually supported by Xfree86, which NVidia is officially not. You have to get NVidia's closed-source drivers directly from them. They may be better, or they may have problems that won't be fixed, you have to put your trust in NVidia.

The Vooodoo3 has possibly the best driver support in Xfree86 4, and should be sufficient for playing Q3 Arena, and fun Mesa 3D stuff. For this reason, I just purchased myself a slightly used Voodoo3 3000 w/ 32 megs of RAM from a guy on ebay for $69 !! (how's that for value?) I'm just hoping it gets here in one piece and works as advertised.

What are the alternatives, and how do they compare in terms of cost to taxpayers and benefit to society? Is the death penalty working? Does it deter homicides? Is it discriminatory against minorities and the poor, who often cannot get competent legal counsel? This is the LAST time I am going to repeat myself. As it says on the page that you quoted:

This platform was adopted by the delegates of the membership of the Greens/Green Party USA (G/GPUSA) at their annual Green
Congress, meeting in Chicago, May 26-28, 2000. It reflects the majority views of the G/GPUSA membership.

G/GPUSA's national officers, spokespeople, and National Committee are expected to act in a manner consistent with the policy framework set by this platform. In keeping with G/GPUSA's structure of "democratic decentralism" where accountability is bottom-up, not top-down, the platform is not binding on the state and local affiliates of the Greens/Green Party USA.

This platform, therefore, does not necessarily reflect in every respect the views of Green Party candidates at any level, including Ralph Nader and Winona LaDuke, Green Party candidates for President and Vice-President in 2000.

The difference that you seem unable to grasp between the Greens and other political parties is this idea of Decentralization. The party system Sucks. You can't divide every issue into two sides, or even three. Green candidates, unlike Republicrats, are not controlled by a party. You don't agree with the national Green platform, I don't agree with the national Green platform, and neither does Ralph Nader. In the Green Party, that's fine, and people are expected to have different opinions. We should be able to vote for a candidate that represents what we believe in, instead of being forced to choose the lesser of two evils. Or worse yet, not have a choice at all, when the two hand-picked candidates take the same stance on all the issues.

-- "The Taxpayer gets to keep more of his own money.

Of course, by taxpayer you don't mean the bottom 95% of the population. No, you mean that top 1% of the population, whose wealth is more than that of the bottom 95% all together. Through their corporations' control of the government they will make sure that "everyone has lower taxes", all while they squeeze the economy for all it's worth, increasing oil prices, restricting fair use of products, passing laws like the DMCA. What I'm talking about requires one to see beyond the whole Democrat/Republican "there are only two sides to everything" viewpoint. The answer is not more tax breaks and it's not more government control. The first step is getting the corporations OUT of government. And that's something the Republicrats are unwilling to do.

Since you don't seem to care very much about the issues (I guess they don't affect you), and you would like to see partisan politics continue on unchanged, I ask you this: How is the corporate control of government benefitting you? Is your company making more money by selling products with heavier restrictions on fair use, or off of a common sense idea they patented? Does that mean you are making more money? Or is it all going to that 1% ? Or maybe you are that 1% ?

And where the hell are you getting this idea of nationalizing corporations? As I said before, there is no "green party platform". Just because one Green candidate proposed to do something does not mean that any/all Green party candidates agree. Can you show me one time where Nader suggested nationalizing corporations?

  18. Re:Spare Nader a look on The Last Days Of Politics · · Score: 1

You are absolutely right. If these values sound ambiguous, that's intentional. It's easy to say you agree to these things, but the very question is how can a government work towards these goals? Unfortunately it's not so simple as strong government control, this compromises the principles of both grassroots democracy and decentralization. Same goes for socialism/communism, systems that sacrifice personal freedom for prosperity or equality.

Republicans may claim to agree with these ideals, but may have some problems when it comes to things like living wage, nonviolence (demilitarization).

Likewise Democrats would probably have problems with decentralization of government and grassroots democracy.

There's more to it than you might think. Perhaps you should read a little more closely. The answer is not simple, but it lies in putting the power back in the hands of the people, getting corporate interests out of government, and government (through the people) restricting the power of corporations(NOT socialism/government controlled companies).

There is no simple solution, but something has to change. Unless of course, you believe that the current situation in government politics is fine, and should continue on the same path. (elect BushGore, watch the rich get richer and the poor get fucked over)

This kind of thing is funny to hear coming from Slahdot, considering how you are always posting outraged articles about the freedoms that are being taken away from us every day by the marriage of politics and corporations.

I am one of those young people that you think are just apathetic and disinterested in politics. The reason people have become disinterested in politics is that they have no say in it. We just tell ourselves that the political system is working fine without us, while it's being hijacked by corporate interests. Now what was a two party system has merged into a single party system with two faces, two identical candidates backed by the same corporations. Perhaps you will wish you hadn't been so quick to declare politics dead, when they take away your right to print articles saying what you believe. To quote Ralph Nader: "If you're not turned on to politics, politics will turn on you."
