I think a difference was that each of them really did want to learn the material but many students today taking these courses just want a job and have no personal interest in the topic.

I'm currently a third year at a technical school, and while my major is not specifically CS, it's similar(networking/sysadmin/IT) and I am surrounded by a lot of CS students.

When I transferred here was I was down right shocked at how many people in any of the given technical departments had little to no interest in their field of study. You are dead on when you say the difference is whether they have a personal interest in learning the topic. It's almost disgusting how many of my fellow students say they are only studying X because it pays well.

The difference is that the restaurant is stating the limit, TWC is not. If they clearly stated the limit, and the limit was reasonable(their previously advertised caps were not) people wouldn't care so much.

iirc I have a 250gb cap on my comcast line. I wasn't happy when they introduced it, but it's far above what I will use in a month and they stated it clearly. I wasn't thrilled but I don't have an issue because they were upfront and reasonable about it.

I think Verizon is in a bit of a tight spot right now(or they feel free and clear, one or the other). The way I see it they CANNOT implement caps of any kind, whether they want to or not. It would undermine their entire marketing strategy for the past few years with Fios being the savior of consumer internet with awesome speeds.

MS actually does have buses for it's employees. the shuttles run all over Redmond taking people between the various offices. This of course does not mean all the employees ride said buses. Also, iirc correctly they have a bunch of hybrids as well but I don't know what their specific use is.

Also, their campuses aren't setup so you can have a parking lot at each end. MS is HUGE and the have several disjoint campuses throughout the city.

  15. I live in the area... on "Bridge To Microsoft" Gets Federal Stimulus Funds · · Score: 2, Informative

... and let me tell you, this will help more than just MS. The freeways and roads in the area are actually surprisingly limited. During rush hour you can expect 3mi+ backups just to get off the freeway. The current on-ramps and overpasses for 520(which is the freeway i'm assuming this will go over) are also pretty limited. Just getting from one side to the other is a pain in the butt, and a lot of that traffic is just MS workers or their shuttles going between buildings. If all of the inter-MS traffic can be re-routed somewhere else, it frees up the roads for the thousands of residents and other workers in the area.
