You might want to look into a Handspring Visor and a GPS springboard expansion. You can get a refurbished Visor Deluxe for about US$99 and a good GPS package for under $200. That'll give you a good sized display and lots of flexibility.

Why does a user need to click on the link? Why not just use a javascript location.href= or whatever to automatically load the link? It's my understanding that Yahoo Profiles still lets you embed javascript in a picture URL. What's to stop someone from creating an automated attack and then getting chatters to check your profile? The possibilites seem endless.

I don't expect filtering to take off. The parents will want to surf the net too. If parents have to do anything more than push a button to toggle the filter, I can't imagine many parents would even bother.

Two Words... "Google Cache". Of course, they specifically requested permission from the site before the blatantly copied the material from this site to thier caching servers, didn't they ?

First of all Slashdot is not Google; therefor it doesn't really matter in this case. "They started it" doesn't hold up too well in court. Secondly, Google is considered a search engine and must follow the robots.txt (supposedly) so they have permision to index it. Whether or not they can legally display that index to Google users is questionable. If I'm not mistaken, hasn't Google been given trouble about their caching before?

As a moderator, I try to discourage copying the text of an article and posting it as a comment because of the copyright issues. Now I'm sure you got permission from the authors before posting this text here (didn't you?), but many slashdot readers/posters don't seem to have any comprehension of the proper way to legally copy copywriten material (as all material posted on the web is). Is this an example you want to set?

I've used Litestep on Windows 2000. I loved it with the exception of two things. 1) a bad theme rendered it nearly unusable. I logged in as another user and reinstalled to fix it, but I later learned of a way I could have fixed it without reinstalling. Partially my fault. 2) The Start menu never seemed to update as I installed new software. It was as if it generated a static menu from the start menu during install.

There were many things I really liked about it: multiple desktops, transparent menus, smaller interface features waste less screen space, right-click access to the start menu, etc. I eventually ditched it though mostly because of the start menu issue.
