What happens when you've got 1000 distinct numbers and a 6 gets OCR'd into an 8 and it's in the ten-thousands column. May as well just type them in if you care about the data. If you don't care and just want to look like you've done the work then this is a great solution.

The whole point of a spreadsheet is to ensure accurate data. If there is just some OCR being done on a lossy image how much faith are you willing to put in the results? The story says you can manually inspect the table to ensure accuracy but is that much better then hand entering data?

I get the old frustrations based on cassettes but they have some notable advantages.

These days when I want some tunes I have to open the interface, wait for it to load, update the software, probably look at an advertisement, then I get to decide what to listen to. Tapes you just push play.

Sure I might not find the exact song you want but usually that isn't important to me. I like the music and so I'll listen to whatever the position is at the moment. It's great for quick background music.

Also the #1 feature everyone in this thread has overlooked is how great they are for audiobooks. You can instantly pause, even lose power and the story will resume exactly where you left off. I can't tell you how many times I've lost my position in a digital story and had to spend 5 minutes trying to get back without spoiling the ending.

As other's have noted they are GREAT for making your own mixes. What is wrong with having another format around?

  11. The difference with guns - especially the assault types obtainable in the US - is that they have no legitimate use. You would have to define killing other people as legitimate for you to be able to use that argument with guns.

You make some great points and I am pleased to see someone with a bit of sense on this thread. You are absolutely right that once someone has you covered by their muzzle, you probably are at a disadvantage and your gun won't do you much good and is now a liability. You've already lost at that point. I occasionally carry concealed but I maintain the best defense is using your brain and tying your shoes tight. That alone will keep you out of trouble %95 of the time. As for when I do carry, if I feel like I am entering a dangerous area or I see suspicious individuals walking toward me, I often ready my flashlight (more important then any firearm) and prepare to draw if necessary. Carrying allows me to be proactive when I feel I might be threatened. If someone gets the drop on me then I just hope I my shoes are tied tight and/or they are a bad shot.
