A single accelerometer wouldn't provide enough info for inertial navigation, which is what you're describing. You'd need three, one for each axis(X, Y, & Z). Some aircraft have an inertial navigation system (usually as a backup to more advanced nav systems) that work on this principle. Inertial Navigation systems do drift over time, so they tend to become less & less accurate. You'd need some way of correcting this on a regular basis.
It was in Idoru. Chia had a "Sandbenders" computer made by a commune that re-used stuff to make cases for computers, cd players, & etc. When you upgraded your hardware, you just pulled the old from the case & put the new hardware in it.
Personally, I've always thought it was a pretty good idea and I'm surprised no one has marketed anything like it...
You can install the Win2k Recovery Console on NT boxes. At least on NT Server you can. Throw in the 2k CD and run winn32.exe/cmdcons from the run prompt or the command line.
My wife works at a ProEx store here in Minnesota and they recently got something called an eBox. It allows you to print digital photos using their photo printer. Not a computer printer, but the actual machine they print all their other photos on. IIRC, the following formats are supported
Compact Flash
Smart Media
PC Cards
Floppies
CDs
I don't think they support Memory Sticks yet, but I think that's "coming soon."
I've printed out several digital pictures (from a 2.1Mpixel camera) and the quality is quite good. The box allows you to do some manipulation of the photos (lighten, darken, rotate, etc). Print sizes range from 3x5 to 8x10 (I think the 8x10's actually have to be sent out though)
ProEx is owned by Ritz Camera, so Ritz stores may have eBoxes as well. They're fairly new, though, so the stores may not all have them yet.
The split second of Boba Fett and the other split second of Slave I didn't pique your interest at all?
I thought it was pretty good...for a teaser trailer. Nothing in it that was really surprising (like Yoda with a lightsaber or something), but it did look good.
And, yes, the added bonus of no Jar-Jar was kinda nice
If we have to pay for the content, shouldn't we get paid for providing the content???
If I provide an article to a site that charges for access, I should be paid for it. After all, I'm providing the content they're getting paid for...
I'm also unsure that the pay-for-no-ads model will be all that successful. I don't know about anyone else, but I've gotten to the point where I can tune out the banner ads for the most part. Admittedly, I do get annoyed when I have to wait for a page to finish loading, but the ad appears in the first couple of seconds. But, when the ads are just hanging out on the top and/or bottom of a (fast loading) page, it doesn't bother me.
J. Michael Straczynski! (It is T5 after all)
Larry Niven (Ringworld, anyone?)
William Gibson
Tom Clancy (yeah, each episode would be 5 hours long)
Stephen King (more 5 hour episodes)
Neal Stephenson (already mentioned, but I had to add him)
Scott Adams (a Dilbertish Trek might be kind of fun)
Neil Gaiman
Chris Claremont (anyone read First Flight?)
and, no doubt, many others.
That's planned obscelesence for you. The companies have to keep the profit margins up by making you replace everything every couple of years. The same reason the computer you bought 2 months ago is now "too slow." I agree that the retro look is nice, though. I don't think I'd want that case for myself, but it is kinda cool. And the Lego case...that would truly rock
Sorry, I may be slightly biased, being a long time Floyd fan, but WHY are people pissed about this being posted? I'll offer you a variation of what I tell people "protesting" things: If you don't like it, DON'T READ IT!!!! All pissing and moaning about a story/product/company/etc does is draw attention to the thing you hate, possibly increasing sales for someone you don't like.
Please, hate me enough to give me more money!! Pretty please...with sugar on top!!!
Pardon me, I have to get back to my "oldie" rock mp3s
Think of how cool it will be to carry one device around for music, notes, and scheduling.
Isn't that what the Visor is supposed to provide through Springboards? Of course, you have to deal with their customer service problems at the moment...
You're right about this being the right direction to go. By licensing the PalmOS, Palm not only gets the licensing fees, but also gets to take advantage of the innovations of other companies. This is also a way of preventing the problems of lack of competition. Palm may not feel the pressure to upgrade it's OS, but it is providing a way for others to upgrade it.
Better yet, how about a hybrid case? Erector would make a great internal frame and place to mount hardware and Lego would make a great shell for it. I was wondering how I would build the internal mounts for drives and etc, Erector sets would be a great answer. Like Lego, they allow for future expansion...
I wouldn't even try to make a PC case out of Lego. What I would do is get some of those terrain sheets (you know, the big, flat sheets in green, grey, or blue) and make them the "walls" of the case. That way you could build stuff off the sides & top (& front with a little creative cutting) of the case. That way, you have something to do while downloading mpegs!
Several years ago, the book Synners by Pat Cadigan had a portable computer powered by two electrodes that were inserted into the users body. Kind of like one of those potato clocks from years back. Wouldn't that bring new meaning to those web pages with the "powered by Jolt" gif?
OH yeah, the book I mentioned was good, I'd recommend giving it a read, if you can find it...
Oh, no, I've got two finals the 18th and one the 19th...Guess I HAVE to take those two days off (and, if I have the time (wink, wink, nudge, nudge), squeeze in a midnight movie...)
I don't have any plans, but it would seem like the best way to go would be to get a bunch of those flat, green landscape pads and build a replacement cover for a case you already have. I don't know what I'd do for the front cover though. An added bonus of a Lego case would be the time you could kill during those huge downloads (hey, we don't all have cable modems, T1's, or whatever).
PS Anybody know whether those flat pads come in anything beside green, grey, and blue?

So, do what I'm going to do...Flip over to Fox 5 min before OC is over, watch the trailer, then flip over to CBS to see CleverNickName on CSI

I didn't notice that Patrick Warburton's character was Agent T. T for Tick, perhaps? Had to be on purpose...

$5000 fine PLUS
Take them, their computer, safety glasses, & a baseball bat. Lock them in a room. They can't leave the room until the computer is destroyed.
For some added punishment, tape the destruction and make them watch it a few times...
Did you see todays UserFriendly...Pitr eats a kitten...

I realize it was foggy, but did anyone get any pictures?
