I seriously question whether Tor is even a useful service anymore. Any government spook agency can start up a whole fleet of exit nodes, and mine the data they get through them, as can anyone else, really.
And just like that, the Zeta's will be out of business
Hark, I hear the sound of the extremely naive! Does anyone really think for one second that they'd just throw up their hands and say "Well, that's that, better get a job at the car wash"? Fuck no. They have lots of thugs and lots of guns, and a total disregard for human life. They'd shake down and/or kill off the legal competition, same way they do to the illegal competition now. We'd be right back where we started, except there'd be more addicts on the streets causing trouble because it wouldn't be illegal for them to be carrying or using anymore.
Seriously: If that happens, you're better off not knowing anyway. At least you won't spend your last few minutes of life scared out of your mind because you know you're going to die in a nuclear firestorm.
I have a HD TiVo, and it was completely and totally on override during the test. Wouldn't respond to any of the buttons at all, not even the TiVo button itself. Somewhat unsettling.
Then you are a wealthy man. I'd have to move somewhere else. It's either Comcast or nothing. I can't even get dialup above 33.6K here even if I had wired phone service!
What I think would be nice, is if you could blacklist specific senders at the level of your mail server such that when any message arrives from that address or domain, it automatically sends back a bounce message, as if the intended recipient doesn't exist. The spammer wouldn't have any way of knowing if the bounce message was legitimate or not, and would have to choose between continuing to send spam to addresses that may or may not actually exist, or remove that address from their list.
May I present a hypothetical, if perhaps a very much real-life situation?
What if a hypothetical member of your church questions the very existence of God, and comes to their own personal conclusion that God doesn't exist and ceases being a part of your church? What sort of treatment and response can they expect?
This isn't entirely about people's beliefs. It's mainly about the few (being religious leaders) holding power over the many (being religious followers), and not wanting to have that power taken away from them by logic and reason. I personally know people who are one flavor of Christian or another, but they believe in evolution, and also believe that the sciences, technology, and a diverse education all are good things, and most of them are very educated (at least a Bachelor's, if not higher). For them their relgious beliefs are something that gives them emotional support and comfort, but they don't let it dictate their lives for them.
Because this guy has gone so far overboard with the whole thing, the FBI may have him on a completely different list now: Potential whack-jobs. Just because you don't think you're being watched doesn't mean you're not being watched. Hunters often use blinds to fool their prey. Also, let's see how safe this guy feels when some group of bored script-kiddies from 4chan decide to make his life miserable "just for the lulz", or some stalker gets fixated on him, or some identity thief decides he's too easy a mark to pass up (plausible to me only because I think this guy may be an attention whore, and I can't be the only one who thinks it, so who would take him seriously when he claims his identity has been stolen?), etc.
As much as I'd like to believe it's not true, if you have enough money and/or connections, you can find just about anybody, and I doubt that anyone involved with Anonymous at any level has enough money and/or connections of their own to avoid detection 100%. The law is (ostensibly, at least) limited by law itself (no torturing people to get information out of them, killing as a means of persuading others, etc). The cartels? Not so much. The FBI Party Van would, I think, literally be a party in comparison to what these sorts of animals would do to someone.
I suppose the outcome of this is going to depend on which faction of Anonymous we're talking about here. Any of the Mexican drug cartels are definitely not Amateur Night. I have to wonder if the Anonymous in question here really understands on a visceral level that these people (if you can refer to any of these drug cartel animals as "people"), if they find them, will kill them, likely in the most hideous and painful manner possible.
That has got to be sarcasm, based on what I've decided has to be the neo-conservatives and Dominionists' overall plan: Destroy the middle class completely leaving an uncrossable gulf between the poor and the rich. May as well be feudalism at that point. What the fuck do they care how unaffordable a college education is to the 99%? They'll easily be able to send their own brats to college. Who gives a fuck if the poor can even read? They can still work the fields and clean their toilets, that's all the rich need them for, right?
I think I'd rather watch the world burn to the ground, than watch it become the new Dark Ages.
With everything that is going on in the world and in this country right now, do you really think that corporations give a damn what you and I want? They'll do whatever makes them the most profit. All I am saying is that they can try it if they like. It'll be damned stupid of them if they do, but when it comes right down to it there will be ways around it, and you can count on that.
But also this: I don't care WHAT bullshit controls they attempt to put on a motherboard, someone will have a hack to completely defeat it within a week of it's release. Suck it, fascist government assholes!
'The Chinese government encourages and actively supports the Internet's development and we also protect the freedom of expression of citizens in China,'
Translation: 'The Chinese government encourages and actively supports the Internet's development as a State-controlled and censored network and we also protect the State-monitored and scripted freedom of expression of citizens in China,'
'We welcome foreign companies to invest and develop here, and we will continue to foster an open policy market.'
Translation: 'We welcome foreign companies to invest and develop here as long as they conform to State-mandated censorship policies and anything else we care to dictate to them, and we will continue to foster the illusion of an open policy market.'
..and before any of you decide to moderate me down as a "Troll": Yes, I strongly dislike the Chinese government, and would sooner trust the word of some strung-out meth-head with the DT's than anything they would say -- and furthermore I think you're a fool if you think otherwise.
I checked the math, and there must be a mistake in the summary: 260 horsepower isn't anywhere near 1.21 gigawatts. Seriously guys, could you proofread these things a little better before releasing them?
Yeah, exactly. Everything else is getting "monetized", so why not monetize people who want to play games, too? It's like The Matrix, except with cash instead of energy.
It's even better than that, though: if that person had their wish, there would not be an Internet, at least not anything like what we have today. More likely than not, nobody would have wanted to pay a licensing fee for something so new and unproven, so either there would have been something else developed to take the place of HTML (rich text format of some kind?), or just plain nobody would have bothered with this newfangled "Internet" thing in the first place.
People like that need to be shouted down, but I think I'm preaching to the choir on that; I think anyone who matters already agrees that patents are completely out of control and benefit no one except the rich corporations.

You must be a real laugh-riot to be around all the time, what with that wild sense of humor of yours. Keep being awesome!
Fool! Without that alert, how on earth are you going to prove to the closest girl to you that you're a complete sociopath?
Fixed that for you. XD
ICBM attack

I have two choices..

THEORIES and FAITH
Here's the difference:
Questioning faith: Discouraged. Sometimes even punished.
Questioning theories: Encouraged, by design.
Now: which do you think is the better system?

..and one giant win for science.

Oh, believe me, I'm taking that into account here, it's just that in this case "EPIC FAIL" may make work for the local coroner's office.

Sure. Go ahead. Elect this nutball, and help hasten the descent of the U.S. into a new Dark Age and into Third World country status.
Where do you stand on the issue of Net Neutrality?
