The music industry is shooting itself right now. This isn't at all helping. P2p wouldn't hurt it at all if the industry would get busy and start producing better quality music. The RIAA is notorious for exaggerating their figures that they show to the general public. While the sales of records are up, they will show you the sales are down.
Plus, what's the point of paying $16 for 10 songs that of which only 2 are good.
I somewhat agree. I, personally, like the gamecube better. It has some great games (though too few as of yet). The one thing I don't like about this N generation is what they've done to Zelda. Is what they did to it back on the n64 not bad enough? Now, it's just all lost.
I can see N's point-of-view though. It's trying to market for the younger kids. But, remember, the original Zelda players are now starting to turn 20-30 (appearing on the NES in 1987 (which I still have!)). I believe that their biggest market for a new Zelda would be for the people who are looking for some nostalgia in a new Zelda. This cel-shaded Zelda just doesn't look all that good. As an orignal Zelda player, I'm rather appalled.
Another big boost in N's gamecube, is it's graphics. While I'm more than willing to sacrafice graphics for gameplay, you don't really have to for the gamecube. Resident Evil has some great graphics (the lighting astounds me in places (like in the tilted hallway with the swinging light in the next room), and doesn't take away from gameplay. Luigi's Mansion, while I've only played a little way through, looked really good.
I was rather dissappointed in the XBox. It's very finicky about games that you put in it. It'll play just fine for a while, then just stop saying that the disc isn't a game disc. Other than that, there isn't much else wrong with it. But, the gamecube does have it's quirks. I accidentally left it on over night and stopped working. It'd play for about 5 minutes and then ask you to insert a game disc.
It looks like since the XBox has the word Microsoft, it will induce computer-like thoughts which, in turn, will automatically make nerds come running to hear the news...
I wouldn't go so far, personally. While I've never really cared for Rare's games, if they can make companies like Microsoft, et al, bend over for them at their will, then I say let them take their time. It's better to have 2-3 good games than 9-10 really poor games. I believe, as a programmer, to not do something until the programmer(s) believe it's ready for release.
After all, I've been waiting for VALVe's TF2 for years now... haha...

The sence of community is gone in America. Every one is just looking out for themselves (agian, capitalism). It is wrong for people to be pirating and so forth. But, pirating is definately the lesser of two evils in this situation. Companies should be glad that people are trying that hard just to get there product, that there was such a positive reaction to it. There is still plenty of income coming in, why fret over a small lose. I still think that the Supreme Court was wrong in the Napster case (and the % of CD purchases did NOT decrease while napster was around)..
Oh well, what can I do. I most definately will contact my senator, I don't know about you...

Although, Napster is dead and that's very sad, it's about time the District Court did something right. Napster never did anything illegal. Why isn't VCRs or tape recorders illegal? Pearls of wisdom from the not so wise.
While I'm completely pro-OpenGL, I'll give my opinions on the matter.
OpenGL, it's just all around better than DirectX. It's more portable, it's faster, et al. It's only problem is, it's not as popular. Here where the only book store in town is Barnes & Noble (not that that's bad) and there are only maybe 2 people interested in programming in a general 50 mile radius, there are a limited number of books on OpenGL available at any given moment (no programming books at my library, already checked). Other than that, I have yet to find something not good about OpenGL. It has a higher learning curve than DirectX does (so I hear) but, it's worth it.
My thoughts on DirectX is, first it's Microsoft's. That's not bad, Bill Gates isn't too stupid. But, it tries to take way too much out of things. It's like a high-level language. Like BASIC. It does too much per command that it's completely unoptimizable. A smart programmer could do what DirectX can do only better. I first started programming for TI calculators. My expertise was in the TI-89 and TI-92+. There was one major problem with them. It required a kernel which came with "libraries" with it that every one used. It had basic routines in it like printing sprites on the screen, printing words on the screen (I kid you not, even though TI made a rom call to do that), even to pause the calculator (even though _ROM_CALL_051 was exactly that). The code was choppy and very unoptimized. If the programmer of a game made his own routines, he could design it and fit it into exactly what he needs w/o other junk that's useless to him. I don't know how to use DirectX but, here's a general idea along with that. You have networking code that will send 10 bytes of data to the computer at the other end while in the game. You have exactly what you want and it does it fast, efficient and only what he needs. But, using DirectX's network code, it requires that you send another 100 bytes of junk that is useless to either side. Like I said, DirectX is easier to learn but, that just puts it further into the problem of the calculators I mention above. So, why bloat your code any more than you need? But, you don't have to worry about it as much since all computers have both. Still, it helps with optimization to write your own code as much as possible.
That should sum up my views on both of them. Of course, OpenGL might have some of the same problems that I mentioned with DirectX but, I don't know of any. Anyways, have fun with OpenGL!
Maybe Tinfoil is for the mildly paranoid but for the true paranoiac, there is OpenBSD. It hasn't had a hole in it's build in over 2 years and so forth. (There's more that I wont bother to go into. The one who deserves the blame in that situation isn't even mentioned in the post. Every man is responsible for their own actions, regardless of his situations. Have you ever borrowed a CD/cassette tape from some one and copied it onto another tape? I'm sure most of you have. Have you ever taped a TV show/movie off of TV? Are these things illegal? No. You know why? In the copyright, it allows these sorts of things to be done legally. Songs, mp3, etc fit under this copyright. It allows you to legally share these forms of copyrighted material.
I liked the comment by Cortney Love on this page: http://www.napster.com/speakout/artists.html.
I know I wouldn't buy a Metallica CD if I heard all the songs on their CD. Because only 2 or 3 songs on the CD are any good, the rest...aren't. I have some CDs where I can listen to them all the way through with out having to skip all the songs to listen to 2 of them. Artists shouldn't be scared of Napster, if they make good music, their albums will sell.
Limp Bizkit, his record sales are in the millions. But, how could that be when people could just download the songs off of Napster (which is what I did)? Simple, because people think his music is good (which most is, some isn't). Metallica is just complaining because nobody likes their new album (don't blame them).
Okay, I'm a little off. I studied evolution a LONG time ago.
Evolution is not a religion. And no real Christians is ever stark-mad raving loony
How is it not a religion? Is there any REAL scientific proof that evolution is true? Not the last time I studied evolution and not now. I admit, there is the same amount of evidence for Christianity as there is evolution. But you evolutionists BLINDLY accept that evolution is true just as Christians do.
What makes evolution not a religion and Christianity a religion?
Doesn't this contradict both religions? When reading scientific articles, I always expect them to have something saying "25 billion years," et cetera. But, this article doesn't. It says that it was from before the dinosaurs but, according to evolutionists, dinosaurs live way back when 100+ billion years ago. It says 250 Million which is considerably shorter. It dosn't follow evolutionary beliefs, nor does it follow christian beliefs. Christians (for the most part) believe that the world isn't very old, say 5,000 years ('round-about). 250 Million is considerable longer than 5,000 years. Those are just my ponderings...
I have been following Nintendo since the NES. But, looking at the Game Cube, I seriously think that the XBox will beat out all competition in this "console race." With the nVIDIA graphics card, Maxtor hard drive, there isn't much of a chance, in my eyes, for anything else. I think that Sega had the right idea. They knew that better was coming out soon, so they quickly finished up the Dreamcast and released it to the public to bleed it while they still could. The only thing that could help out the Game Cube is Nintendo's old games like Kirby, Mario, et al.
First off, I'll talk about my dislike of Linux and why it'll never become a major Operating System for PCs.
It seems that people have gotten the general idea, open source == good. Well, this is not the case for Linux. While being open sourced, it allowes bad coders to get a hold of it; causing bad coders to make a distro and others modifying it with code 10x worse than before. Things that shut down compatibility between distro a and distro b and I wont even mention *BSD. File systems mount async by default (power outage and your fs dies). The fact that a new kernel is released every week, also weakens it's foothold into the OS market. Needless to say, when the kernel is released you can kiss 50%+ of your progs away. Let's look at another point. Prog A needs prog B's patch that requires a year old kernel. To get prog B's patch to work, you need prog C's patch but, will make prog A incompatible with your system. Get the message? It has a less than acceptable network code. It's slow and all-around bad. Going back to one of the earlier points, the people who develop for linux aren't good either. There code is less than effecient and at times, just plain bad. Using redundant and slow code. It STILL has no USB support.
Now, what I believe to be the best OS's.
As far as well written, stable, secure, et cetera, I'll have to say FreeBSD. It fixes all forms (or most anyways) of problems found in Linux. It's suitable for things ranging from a desktop to a server. Anything is good for FreeBSD. Only the finest of programs are put in, voiding out the possibility of the poorly coded progs. Developed in Germany allowing for high encryption unlike US, the highest allowed for all imports/exports being 64? If you want BSD for any hardware (including a Dreamcast) take a look at NetBSD. If you are extensively paranoid, then go with OpenBSD. Three years with out a remote hole in the default install! Two years with out a localhost hole in the install! There is a BSD for every one. The closest linux distro that tries to keep the BSD feal, is Debian. Keeps out the poor code, keeps in the good code.
Now, for support. Need I say, Windows. Sad, but true. The best out there is Win2k. It has good memory management, can handle multiple processor, multiple users, etc. The 3rd-party support is amazing compared to the few with linux. The problem with Windows is that it's to newbie-esque. It comes with 95%+ of all PC's being sold today. It's simple to configure, the perfect newbie OS. It's well supported, the best OS to use at the present moment.
To sum up this section, I say use primarily windows for desktop and have a partition/extra hdd for FreeBSD. Can't go wrong with that combination. Unless your running a server. In that case, use FreeBSD.
The AIM vs. anything section
I've been using ICQ for almost a year now and I've just recently stopped using AIM. I've been using ICQ 3-4 months longer because, I like the feal to it a whole lot more. People claim that Yahoo! IM or AIM are faster that ICQ but, I say at the end it's all the same. AIM might take up less system resources but, it all works out after while. If your hard drive feals up to it, go ahead and use both but, of the two I say ICQ. It's got the nicest UI. There are plenty of UNIX clones of ICQ. There Licq, some others. I've never got too much into using linux or any others but, I know plenty about it. sourceforge.net has a lot of open sourced projects in developement for Linux and just about anything.
To summarize this long post: Don't, under any circumstances, use Linux. Use FreeBSD. If you want, use AIM and definately use ICQ (or clones thereof).
Have a look at a FreeBSD powered site: Soundex.org. Yet to be taken down.

I was wondering. What is Computer Science and Computer Engineering? I'm asking because I'm a senior in high school and I'm pretty sure of what I want to go into. I believe it's Computer Science is for programming and Computer Engineering is for hardware? If so, I want to go into Computer Science. I figured I'd ask just to be sure.

From,
Doesn't this contradict both religions? When reading scientific articles, I always expect them to have something saying "25 billion years," et cetera. But, this article doesn't. It says that it was from before the dinosaurs but, according to evolutionists, dinosaurs live way back when 100+ billion years ago. It says 250 Million which is considerably shorter. It dosn't follow evolutionary beliefs, nor does it follow christian beliefs. Christians (for the most part) believe that the world isn't very old, say 5,000 years ('round-about). 250 Million is considerable longer than 5,000 years. Those are just my ponderings...
From,
I have been following Nintendo since the NES.
Mark my words, NCube will crash and burn.

Have a nice day,
First off, I'll talk about my dislike of Linux and why it'll never become a major Operating System for PCs.
Have a nice day,
