There is intrinsic motivation in doing a job well, along with getting the paycheck. I'd dare say a person who works a job for just a paycheck (unless it is a very large paycheck) without any other reward, might be happier with a different job.

Not to mention the hardcore ones fear of other 4channers which prevents real organization. The crusade against CoS is not of 4chan, it is of moralfags who think 4chan is a place of guy fawkes masks and memes. The real 4chan is a very ugly place.

Hmm, wonder how this whole blind subpoena thingee works? If you are using a free wireless signal provided by the city, are they going to sue the city for downloading this stuff? How about if you live at an address, yet the cable bill is under an entirely fictitious name? Who gets sued then? Seems like they are fighting a losing battle. Send out lawsuits and sue folks that have no money, and do what? If they are poor, then bankruptcy, IIRC, wipes legal judgments clean, except for tax stuff I thought. And then there is the obscenity by community standards. What if I downloaded a torrent of some porn that violates the standards? Can the authorities go after both me and the producer? Just stupid shit by retarded money grubbing lawyers it sounds like to me. No different than an HVAC repair company going out and cutting folks linesets and offering to fix them for a reduced price.

I doubt you have had a close by lightning strike on your lines and your protector did anything. I see lightning strikes on a pretty regular basis on HVAC/R equipment, and anything that melts holes through 1/8 inch or better steel is not going to be stopped by a quick trip switch that makes a fraction of an inch air gap.Low UID or not, a lightning strike on a phone line, even with a surge protector is going to tear up everything connected. Same basic premise with the panel box protectors. If the lightning hits the line before the transformer they stand a slight chance, but if the lightning hits your service drop (from transformer to panel) you are SOL for anything electronic that is in the circuit. You'd figure on a tech site like /., folks would have a little idea of the amount of volts and amps a lightning bolt carries. I'd rather have an over-sized ground with an isolated neutral in my panel than a surge protector on it.

  11. Re:Only 1998? on Microsoft Patents OS Shutdown · · Score: 4, Informative

Are you counting on the surge protectors to protect your stuff? Or just using them for brief line fluctuations? A consumer grade surge protector is useless for lightning induced power surges.

Using a fake weapon or implying you have a weapon is the same as using a real weapon in most states and under federal laws. And if someone dies, 1st degree murder, even if their death was from a heart attack they had while running to the door to see what vehicle you were escaping in. So moral of the story, use a real gun, shoot to kill and never take dye pack laden money.
