    The FCC said no!

    All you got was a near useless low power set.

    In 1984 Apple Computer petitioned the FCC for what is alot like WiMAX,
    A 10k to 15k network adaptor.
    But AT&T and others sweet talked the FCC out of the deal.
    Since this would by pass the local telco monopoly.
    So now you are going to pay for your access to
    the airwaves, its a lot like paying for your freedom of speech.

    Sounds like its time to start dumping Tea in the harbor boys.

    For the Venders I have one word.

    Configure

    Yes Apache Perl and so many others are portable accross,
    so many if not, all of the Linux distros.
    Yes just require the right librarys and off you go.

    If so many OSS projects can do it for free,
    why can't your vender?

    Here is where.

    Yes the parent is spot on,
    the MMOG's took many customers.
    Blaming Piracy like the music industry is not
    going to bring the money back.
    Perhaps some better MMOG's would.
    I play WoW, is there room to compete?
    I think so.

    I use iframes, no java needed. I have tryed PELR::AJAX,
    but leave it to MSIE to break on all but the simple stuff.
    Can't get my users to just use firefox.

    So for me iframes work best.

    IMHO Imaging an OS install is a good thing.

    The mother of all windows, Smalltalk, Did just this.
    And when you where finished for the day ST did
    a sort of core dump to disk. When you want to
    start up it restored your workspace just where you left off.

    Emacs was so slow to load all of its lisp macros
    the authors did the same thing dumping the core
    image into an a.out file and starting that each time.

    Perhaps You think Imaging a disk is different.
    But I propose that its just the same thing as a different
    level of the memory hierarchy. You just install into
    a 800meg partition and dump to CD. same thing.
    Make it bootable, add a start up that rus the installer
    and copy it to disk.

    So If there are no examples of how to program
    then there will be fewer programmers.
    Few programmers leads to fewer Botnets
    And with fewer Botnets, and viruses for that matter,
    There will be less need for McAfee software.
    And in turn a larger market for software
    that can self automate our lifes.

    Or in other words when programing becomes illegal
    then only criminals will program.

    It's MS that drove us to Googles big yellow Linus box
    for indexing our web pages. Yes It's the Google
    software that lets us index the the Ugly MS-word and
    MS-power-point files. If it where not for that I would
    be using ht://dig.

    The lazy giant takes a long time to roll over.

    We have had a Google Search Appliance
    in house for over two years now.
    Microsoft's Kevin Turner is just figuring
    out that there is competition out there.

    When did MS start corporate search?
    I have never heard of it, but then why would I.

    IMHO MS thinks all your computers are belonging to us.

    Why? When all the 12 year olds are all ready computer experts.

    I was programing robots in artificial classes in the 1970's

    The real meat of this story is this.

    Microsoft Corp. Looking to boost enrollment in computer science classes.

    Its MS that made computer science obsolete in the first place.
    When every 12 year old is an innate computer expert who needs
    computer science classes. And if you buy into the MS paradigm
    any research you do will be simply more padding for MS's pockets,
    as if there was any need for that. A few dollars in advertising
    is not going to fix the problem.

    Why would any one write a computer program when
    all the typewriter programs have been written by the
    people in Redmond. That what people mostly use computers
    for to type stuff. Who needs computer science for that?

    and keep my money from those that would create
    monopolies to take it away.

    On the one hand, shuttles flew forever shedding foam and it only became a real problem when a large enough piece tore off to actually damage the shuttle in flight significantly.


    Some requirement to reduce fluorocarbons lead to a recent change the formula of the foam. This made a the foam more prone to break off.

    So thank the bureaucrat's not the shuttle engineers. Perhaps after the falure the engineers should return to the old formula. Perhaps they did, that part was not reported it the time.

    I don't see now ABC can disable MythTV on my Linux hardware. Sure you can make me go throw the inefficient analog data stream, but you can't disable it.

    I Personally welcome our new overlords.

    In other words,
    if you can't trust Google who can you trust.
    It is not the Media we trust.
    But I can understand why the Media want the
    new Internet printing press broken, so they
    control all the information we get.
