    Ya, Apple and Windows did go head to head, over the GUI. Thats IMHO why the Windows GUI is so bad. Windows did everything backwards to keep from getting sued. But now you are use to it, now normal interfaces seem strange.

    On another Topic some one was wondering where the standard interfaces where. Well now you see it. until the man that can out litigate the rest will define what pad/pod/phone you will be using and how it will work.

    Perhaps it is time to stop all this madness.

    When the USA was founded people gathered in the town square to hear other people speak. This right was put into the Constitution of the United States, as the right of free speech.

    Where is the town hall today? Well let me tell you its on the Internet. Where is the capitalism? So, your telling me the Bell system has the right to tax us for Internet access?

    We as least should have the right to some part of the radio spectrum for a mess of roof top routers. This would give small Ma and Pa ISP a chance for competition. And cell phone time, no charge for local 100 Km calls. Texting, lol, how did people get away with charging for that?

    Tcl is nice I used it on a standalone barcode scanner. But for it to shine it needs the Tk library and a GUI builder like vtk. Then half the application, the visual part, is nearly written for you.

    I live next to the Interstate (I95) Where one of the biggest Fiber pips in the country runs. I live under 3 miles from the brick and mortar Version building. And there are Pop sights underground much closer. But all I get is DSL The phone lines that where run in the 60's

    Hulu set at the lowest setting, 240p, maxes out the line. If I want the next setting up, I wait for data to load close to half the time.

    So media streaming will have to wait until we get access thats better then the greedy ISP's we are stuck in the dark ages. Perhaps Roof top routers. At least I will not have to pay Version.

    Andrew Tanenbaum did not know any better, but made a horrid error. He Let Prentice-Hall own the copyright to Minux. This made improvements impractical, the patches got bigger then the original. Linux wins with the copyleft. This allowed sending out the new version. With Minux giving a copy to your friend was stealing.

    I might add that Andrew was a Professor. His ambition was/is to teach, not maintain an OS.

    Seems in in April 2000 Minux became Open Source, but that was 10 years to late for Minux.

    As for the Minux Micro kernel vs the Linux monolithic kernel. Minux was for Teaching. But the message passing was slow. Linux ran much faster, for the rest us us.

    But then I realized it was a Sun. I saved the line the day we decommission it.

    Yes, this is where your Skepticism has to start. If the facts are politically or socially movitated then look at other sources. Rules "like do not believe everything you read" apply.

    Science is based on skepticism.

    Science is not facts. Science is a Method. Its the Method of making a guess and testing it. Then publishing your results. Finally letting others test your guess. It is the consensus that defines the truths of Science. All of Science is ready for you or anyone else to disprove. We learn by refinement. That is as time goes on we update what we believe to be true.

    This Method is what makes Science different from things that people just say are true.

    P.S. There are some that still go to the Church to get cured of disease. Do you go to a Doctor? I think most people go to a Doctor for there health. If so you believe the Doctor can help you. The Doctor's knowledge is based on Science. So I think you believe in Science too.

    IMHO, rather then lawyering up with licensees, let the prospective buyer of hardware download a test sweet that checks the API. If this check fails customer then knows that the phone is not an Android.

    This was not the fault of nuclear energy. The problem was that the reaction required monitoring and intervention to be safe. If the pumps had not failed there would have been no problem. Better Yet pick a reaction that requires no pumps.

    We need people all over the world to run safe power plants that are safe and can run unattended. But do not take my word on this Google it. Thorium the new Green power source. People have been saying this for years, but the people with the cash are not getting it. I assume they like raking in the cash from the "bad" energy sources.

    Not only is it Double dipping. But it is taxing the people that are spending money on the more efficient vehicles.

    So let me get this straight we want to use more imported oil? And less replenishable resources like wind and solar?

    I understand we need to pay for the roads. But for now it would be better to increase the gas tax. At least until many more people are using non taxed vehicles. We need to encourage change not tax change.
