I know a lot of countries have TV Licenses - but the BBC takes the piss. We *PAY FOR THE PRODUCTION* of a TV show, but then pay OVER THE ODDS for the DVD's when they come out.
Yeah, but that's because of the imoral copyright laws - all the actors want to get paid again. I think it is legal for me to download the prisoner DVD rips (I have never seen this show, I want to) because I pay the license fees already.
Well, it isn't until you elect a different set of politicians.
People also think a game that allows - taking a rocket launcher and shooting someone in the face is 'fun' - taking a broadsword and hacking off an opponents arm is 'fun'. - driving at triple digits on public roads is 'fun'. - building a rollercoaster that is designed to crash is 'fun'. - having a giant ape throw boulders at you is 'fun'.
Yeah - but have you tried it for real, that's fun!
"In the 30's, if you stuck your arm into a pulley and got it taken off, it was your fault because any idiot knows not to put their arm into machinery..."
Oh? And what if you were doing nothing more than operating it the way it was supposed to be operating,
Sometimes parents do everything right and still end up with a serial killer.
No. Sometimes parents do all they know how and sitll end up with a serial killer. Because any idiot can become a parent (and quite a few are) - there is no drivers license for parents.
I'm sure I will be attacked as a troll or zealot or religious fanatic or something of that sort, doesn't matter. What does matter is the simple thought of society training children and students with everything they don't need for a healthy life style. You teach your children to talk through example. You teach your children to dress, act, and interact through example. Why cant a teenager wait to drive, cause he wants what has been around his set as an example.
Same thoughts apply to violence. Everything is set through example.
Which means never beat up or kill anyone while your children watches.
However, assigning meaning to some spikes, but not others, tends to erode one's confidence in the assignment of causality.
You just give it negative spin. Its not that they don't "assign meaning" to some spikes, its that they haven't matched them against something. That's different. Just because you don't know something happened isn't the same as it didn't happen.
If accounts were free, or available from online, there would be no distribution of the box version. No distributor wants to touch a game that is available online cheaper (or even at same price, but 'easier').
Yet, you can buy City of Heroes in a box or just download it online.
... tripe on Slashdot. People go on and on about how "It has all been downhill since TNG" and it has all been Berman's fault, etc.
But it is - he is in charge, ego he is to blame.
For one thing, Roddenberry died midway through TNG.
Lies. Roddenberry died at the end of season 5. Berman was basically the man at the helm for what was argueable the best portion of the series, the last 3 seasons.
1: He was mostly working with the talent Roddenberry had hired. 2: He didn't have the guts to suddenly change TNG to something else in the middle of the series (like he let them do with DS9)
Ie, he just continued on the course set by Roddenberry.
For another, DS9 (the first series run soley by Berman) was actually very good (once it got going - the first season or two were quite.. icky).
So DS9 became better once Berman withdrew from day to day running of the series and started to focus on Voayger - funny that. Not to mention again, he had Ira Steven Behr("Dark Angel"),Michael Piller("Dead Zone") , Ronald Moore("Battlestar Galactica") to help him. I entirely suspect he was out having lunch with management while they were writing.
Aside from all this - you people seem to believe that the whole series lives and dies by Berman's word. Shouldn't some of the blame be put on the writers? The writers are the ones coming up with the same old crap over and over again.
Very, its close to being unreadable, with werid reflowing of text, and adds on top of articles, plus less screen space because of crap in the left side.
Thankfully I can still use their old version on their old servers, but the moment they change over I have to leave - damn it. ..it's not a bad idea as such.
Not sure I agree, it seems an attempt (yet another) to move people away from usenet. And the problem with a private group is that anybody can just create one (it is a bit harder with usenet groups), so you end up with a ton of lame groups with 2-3 users on the same topic. I don't see a need there, not from a user point of view - of course from a business point of view they'll want to see if they can't steal users from other sites.
While I'm at it, if they want to make Google Desktop Search better,
Don't use it - see no point.
And as for gmail... it's already miles ahead of the competition, but it's tough to capitalize on.
Especially since people can't use it. So I haven't use it, though I hear they have done away with the folder analogy which I hate right there. Not sure I would ever want to use such a system.
Really, there's not a whole friggin' lot you can do about that.
Sure there is: Future hardware will prevent you, unless you have a license. And old hardware will not only break but become illegal. They are already working on part 1.
And the UK too, the changed the law so you must provide your passwords, if you don't (or "can't remember") that will be taken as an admission of guilt.
Except you coward, "we" haven't done anything in Iraq.
(and yet again we see some fools who are not doing their job as moderators)

If only we could produce hotties like Madeleine Albright, Condaleeza Rice, and Barbara Bush.
Yeah, then perhaps you'd get to torture innocents as well! Oh wait, you did that already

Then that is not what we are talking about.
Common excuse.

Bill Gates thanks his brother for completing the comprehensive study.
I don't think retailers gave a shit. Nor do I believe the option was hidden, they would only hurt them selves.
Yeah, it should have gotten a positive mod for evading the lame lameness filter.

Flash is not a movie format - more likely the jerks are trying to hide format and source of the real trailer.

Yeah, except: HE HIRES THE WRITERS, his blame.
Check.
I must have missed a briefing...

they either don't read slashdot or do so in such a way as only read it for the pictures.
There are pictures?
sure it would
No it wouldn't - because you don't send the key, you get the key when you download the P2P app. from a trusted source.
Write your damn congressman!
