    I submit that most who actually know what happened (of course most don't give a shit about history), but most who do know what happened do think of it as terrible act quite close to terrorism. This bombing was specifically designed to be evil, to try and demoralise people. Its quite chilling to read about the fire storms and the effect on the city.

    there is a simple "tit for tat" method that ensures that you serve best the nodes which upload to you, thus ensuring that everyone will indeed participate


    And also ensuring that the many of us with a high download and slow upload get a piss poor download rate if tryng to use Bittorrent.

    Blizzards Wow trial took about 30 hours where it would have taken me about 2 hours from a "normal" website.

    (No need to tell me about the politics etc of torrents, i know - but thats why i don't like bittorent)

    Also it does not have that bar along the side of the tree showing you which messages are in the other frame.


    It does here (or perhaps it does now), there is a bar which indicates all of the messages you can currently view, and there is a smaller arrow image which gets adjusted as you scroll up and down in the right pane, so its always pointing at the one you are reading.

    It still is missing the previous,next links at the bottom.

    Yes this is a gross oversight, i don't know what they heck they were smoking.

    Stopped using it years ago when i realise they stamped the IP number on the post. I trust they still do that on GG2?

    Usenet posts are copyright of their authors, automatically and without any obligation to register in most jurisdictions. They do not become public domain, free-for-all content just because they're posted to Usenet.

    Under what law? There is nothing creative in 99.9999% of all the posts on usenet.

    They used to show the IP address of the poster - leaving them poster open to attacks if one said something that others objected to (if you have a permanent number). They could simply encode the IP number if they wanted it for abuse purposes.

    No i didn't realise that - i only heard it was a ratings flop. With whom was it a success? Those who didn't like the films? I liked the films but stopped almost at once watching this because it was something entirely else (of course we now know that a big part of it was Lucas testing his digital cinema! But that's a different story)

    I think since most geniuses don't hit their peak of invention until nearing the ends of their lives, extending it will either push it much further back or... make huge leaps in technology.

    On the contrary, someone compaired this at one point: The vast majority of the gifted people make the big breakthroughs when they are young, before they get married and "settle down".
