As for getting people to understand it, they are focusing on just a camera to record precious moments from your life, because people understand cameras and many grouse over not getting a shot of their kid doing something cute. Then once people have bought it for the camera they'll start discovering other abilities.
But I agree 3-5 is Google employees on mushrooms again (instead of fixing some of the damn bugs in gmail and other services)
Its more likely to be 15-20 years. It depends on how much money Google will care to throw at it. The less they spend the longer it will take.
