    Your question could also be phrased as "Was it better to get Bush for president and 'An Inconvenient Truth' from Gore, or would it have been better to just have had Gore for president?"

    In the "Back to the Pilot" Family Guy episode, GWB loses the 2004 election, goes back to Texas, and starts US Civil War II...

    Hard to say whether alternate timelines might be better or worse. :)

    With current *buntus you can download these non-OS packages during install. Even with an nVidia or ATi card, you can be up and running in the correct resolution on first boot.

    Windows 7 can't do that to my knowledge.

    It's too bad that engine development/engineering really never made it to the bikes.

    That's true for something like a Harley, but engines on bikes of every other category have become extremely sophisticated. 600cc supersports models can rev to 18000rpm these days...

    Were you around for the previous /. discussion on this? There is no benefit to changing to getting rid of timezones. You go from having to remember what timezone Chicago is in, to having to remember what time they eat lunch in Chicago.

    We have months as a approximation of the moon's orbital period. That was important information of much of human history, but not so important for most of us nowadays.

    There are too many politically conservative idiots, like my mom, who believe attempts at converting to metric represent a "socialist" conspiracy, and almost literally scream at any attempt to remove Imperial units in favor of metric.

    Which makes it all the more amusing they constantly refer to the American Standard system as "Imperial".
