  1. DL was better as an arcade game on Dragon's Lair - A Forbidden Love Affair? · · Score: 5, Interesting

Dragon's Lair worked better as an arcade game. At the local games parlor, the few who knew how to beat the game (or at least get past the first few screens) were revered by the unwashed masses. The gameplay was nothing special, but the graphics were mindblowing. Hmm - I can remember the game being featured on a Beyond 2000 show, even..

When it at last was released as a PC game, it was too short and too easy, when you no longer was limited by the amount of quarters in your pocket.

The game could actually be replaced by a "guess the number" game, where you guess one single digit at a time, and have to restart from scratch when you miss a digit. You even get a nice cartoon if you guess correctly. The catch is that the number you're supposed to guess is the same every time you play..

Last year Mercedes declined to add bluetooth to any of their 2003 and 2004 models - so they should be safe, I guess. Fiat cars thus seem to be a bit more unsafe.. ;)

  3. What about the auroras? on The New York Times On Earth's Magnetic Flip-Flop · · Score: 2, Interesting

The aurora borealis, or northern lights, occur due to charged particles entering the Earth's magnetic field, being guided to the magnetic poles.

If the magnetic field flips, what about the auroras? Will we have (weaker) auroras all over the place while the field changes?

  4. Egg go SPLORTCH! on Fan-made Maniac Mansion 256 Color Remake · · Score: 2, Interesting

I keep thinking of the egg in the airplane microwave from Zak McKracken. The only way to get the oxygen tank (last bin, remember) was to egg the microwave.
..I've always wanted to test it myself, but I've heard enough horror stories of egg being found in the most obscure corners of the kitchen for weeks after such incidents.. :-D

  5. Re:Two things I never found out: on Fan-made Maniac Mansion 256 Color Remake · · Score: 5, Funny

The chainsaw could be fueled by the Chainsaw Fuel container found in Zak McKracken, which was useless without the Chainsaw, which only was found in Maniac Mansion.
    ..So: It's only a cross-game joke. ;)

By the way, I'm selling these fine leather jackets..

  6. Nuke 'Em Burglar Alarm on Fan-made Maniac Mansion 256 Color Remake · · Score: 1

I certainly hope they've kept the wonderful Nuke 'Em Burglar Alarm - the copy protection that made sense in-game as well. "The house and everything within a five mile radius has been destroyed." - or similar. :)

If I recall correctly, this copy protection was scrapped from the C64 version due to floppy space issues.. :D

  8. Re:Co-op play makes a great game even better.. on Only Xbox Port of Doom 3 Will Have Co-operative Play · · Score: 1

Well - NWN did not have co-op play in mind when they made the campaigns. They clearly state in the manual that the campaign is intended to be played in single player, but that it is _possible_ to play it in coop-mode.
I've had quite a few lock-ups and such when playing NwN - for example, in the last expansion only one of us could even enter the dungeon! We had to run a couple of Dungeon Master commands to be able to continue at all! ..And yes, in NwN, you do have traps locking the character inside a room. With his teammates outside of the situation. You have other issues, like that the in-game movies are only viewable by one player, etc. ..But it is still _possible_ to play in coop.

The technical issues - as CoreyGH pointed out, have already been solved. If a single machine can track of several players and show them on a split screen, then it is not that hard to synchronize two machines to do the same. One machine could be the Master and the other one(s) could be the Slaves.

    Cheers!

  9. Co-op play makes a great game even better.. on Only Xbox Port of Doom 3 Will Have Co-operative Play · · Score: 2, Insightful

Co-op play should almost be required in action games. Even ones as heavily scripted and story-based as Doom 3.

Neverwinter Nights and its expansions are very good examples. Granted, NwN is an RPG, not an FPS, but it is still has a very heavily scripted story-line. The single-player campaign is made to be played uhm - single player, but it is still _possible_ to play it in coop mode with your friends on a LAN or on the internet. This is a _very good thing_(tm).

HALO and a lot of other games have also implemented co-op modes. It's often MUCH more fun to play with your friends than playing alone. ..And please don't give us the "it's not implemented in the code" speech - if it's implemented for the XBox, then it's not hard to implement on the PC as well. Puhleez!

    Cheers!
