    Turns out...

NASA is the only place that can verify the authenticity of a moon rock. They would not guarantee that they would give it back. A moon rock is a national treasure. A national treasure can not be owned so it can't be legally sold.

What's funny is I had no idea of the potential value of the small object we had in our house. The rock was almost the size of a small lemon.

I've been waiting for HD content for YEARS. I remember thinking that NTSC was crap back in the early 90s and wishing for something better. I just thought it was disgusting that we had been relying on ancient technology for so long.

I finally broke down and picked up a decent TV and a ps3 earlier in the year and it's been like a breath of fresh air. The quality bottleneck in the bluray movies is finally the video source, not the format.

Check out the Dark Knight teaser on the Batman Begins bluray on a decent 1080p tv. It was literally jaw dropping for my friends and I. The thing is we should have been watching video like this 10 years ago.

I just don't understand it when people say DVD is "good enough". You can see the compression artifacts! (and that's on a low resolution display)

Oh and the DRM is annoying.... I suspect it will only be a matter of time before I'll be ripping the movies to watch on my portable devices just like I do with DVD. Just crack it and get on with your life.

  7. Re:Bummer :-( on iPhone Application Key Leaked · · Score: 1

It seems likely to me that the key is going to be tied to the 1.1.3 firmware and not the SDK in particular.
If the key is NOT on the phone side it has to be on the iTunes/PC side which is easy to crack.

If I were to design the security system to keep unauthorized applications off of the phone I'd put the final security check on the phone itself. This would prevent anyone from just making their own application for uploading software to the phone. If the key is phone side then this isn't possible.

If the key IS phone side and this is the correct key then the damage is already done. All that is needed is for hackers to figure out the intended method for uploading applications to the 1.1.3 firmware phones.

Apple wants to SELL the applications. If any coder can spend a weekend working up a decent solitaire game then that means they won't be able to charge $5 (or whatever) for their solitaire game on iTunes. The cell phone market has ALWAYS been about nickel and diming the customer to death. Charging for text messages?

The movement to provide on-demand services is NOT about improving life for the customer. It has ALWAYS been about improving revenue. Getting more for less.

    and anyway...

I own a hacked iPhone with the 1.1.2 firmware with about 15 third-party applications on it. This thing is by far the most useful consumer electronics device I've ever owned (besides my pc of course). I don't have to upgrade to 1.1.3 and it is still useful to me. When it's cracked I'll upgrade.... but either way it's still a win/win for me.

I've got more personalized envelopes, address labels, calendars, notepads, etc. than I know what to do with. I'm sure it's well more that $50 to print and send this.
