Yes, but part of the problem is staff that requires 'training' to figure out off the shelf consumer level programs. An average school kid will usually figure out a word processor on their own. And if they have used Office before, the already (hopefully) understand the concept of a document, spreadsheet etc. So moving to another program that uses the same concepts shouldn't be difficult.

The second more specific problem for a huge number of business people is that there is really NO alternative to Powerpoint. There really isn't...Impress is probably the weakest component in Libreoffice.

  6. Does DragonBox magically allow you to access Netflix and Hulu without paying for them ? Or is it simply the equivalent of a torrent client. This is the most stupid nonsense I've seen. And I am sad to see Netflix go the route of major channels and studios.

  8. The cost of memory efficiency during development at this time beats the cost of memory itself by far at this time point.

An average software developer charges what at least 30$ an hour ? An how much time does it take to improve efficiency in large complex programs ? 1 working day at least ?

For those 300$ I can have 16 GB of DDR4 RAM delivered tomorrow. Sorry, I want to care, but I just can't.

Being 14 yeard old does not make your infringements invalid. It simply means that the consequences are somewhat milder. I don't know what the defense is here exactly. May be they are making her child a scapegoat. So what? Her entire defense is 'oh, why me? they are doing it too!' which is essentially a 5 yrs old's defense tactic used for a 14 yr old infringer.

I think this is well beyond the point of defending any wrongdoing on the 14 year old's part. Now its just a pathetic attempt by a desperate Mom to defend her kid. Actually, challenging the validity of a 14 yr old's agreement of any contract/terms of service would be a more valid legal argument.

The kid needs to wisen up.

It is astounding to see the number of controversy theorists in the comments talking about lobbying and bribed officials. Does it really hurt your ego to accept that for a particular organization of a particular scale and type, Linux might not be the best option ?

I am a research scientist. I spend my time analyzing large amounts of microscopy data in Python, R etc. on very capable hardware. But you know what I found ? Windows 10 does fine. Everything works. I have no reason to use Linux. I went from Linux all the time, to dual-booting Linux just in case I needed it, to Windows all the time in 10 years.

Of course, I have an Android phone and a Chromebook....so I do use Linux (technically). The tremendous success of Android and Chromebooks (or MacOS) should be an obvious indication that there is nothing wrong with the Linux kernel or the Unix/BSD/POSIX standard. What is wrong with Linux distros is that they don't simply work reliably. And Windows 10 does. It isn't 98 or Vista. MS might be evil but with Windows 10 they delivered a good product. They delivered exactly what people wanted. They even included a Linux VM now. Google took the Linux kernel and delivered good products that were reliable and easy to use and did what everyone expected them to do.

So please, there IS something lacking in Linux desktop distros. Drivers, apps, reliabilty etc. depending on whatever flavor you are using. The world is not full of fools and charlatans who like to give away money to MS. People see tangible value in Windows 10. Better that the distro makers learn what they can from Windows 10. Don't be like Mozilla. Make the Linux equivalent of FF Quantum if you want to stay competitive.
