The balancing act is a very old automatic control problem. Solutions are given in almost every text on the subject. You can get more information on it by searching for "inverted pendulum" on google.
Look, that's not a troll. Taco said in the article that "...Bush supporters are nearly silent. We want a diverse story selection here..." and that he was going to vote for Gore as the lesser evil. I'm making the point with supporting facts that Gore is not a lesser evil.
This does not seem practical because it must consume too much power. The vibration attenuation through the wrist and knuckles must be tremendous. It must have to dump significant power to the speaker/vibrator(?). That combined with the small watch-sized battery doesn't bode well for prospects. Of course maybe they could use a Proton Polymer Battery.
Try again. When you say "If you want the benefits..." The "you" is the stockholders who do pay taxes as was stated quite clearly in the parent comment.
How about requiring users to login and then publishing page request logs per user? This would make it as if user were browsing in a public place where everyone could see their screen. People will modify their behavior for the same reasons they mostly conform to social etiquette in public. You just have to make it clear that you expect their browsing behavior to abide by 'public' traditional social rules when using your systems.
This is a point I've wondered about concerning the GPL... Where is the threshold? If I have a large commercial app and add 20 lines of GPL'd code (let's say not even an entire function) then there is no way that anyone can reasonably expect that I then just give away the whole app under GPL. If I start with, say, Doom under GPL and add 20 lines then I would expect that I am ethically obligated to give my work, my intellectual product, away. Now you can move those proportions closer together and argue either way. Is there a consensus on this issue.
Isn't it a little ridiculous to assume that cell phones will remain text based. The natural progression will be to a GUI. Why not start developing for that now?
Nearly OT but, on the topic of wireless transmission.... I've been searching around for a way to add ethernet connectivity to the computer that's going in my car (mp3s, gps, etc...). This microwave thing peaked my interest briefly, but I don't think it's what I need. I just need a range of about 10 feet and would settle for 1.5 Mbps. The only commercial solutions I've come across are >$200. Does anyone know of a cheap package for these slow, short range applications. Right now, I'm planning on going with my back-up plan: RJ45 in the grill.
Good! Now that they have Diablo 2 out of the way they have more resources to put on Warcraft 3. I don't know how much longer I can play StarCraft. Anyone want to start a betting pool on the actual release date of War3? Blizzard says end of the year.
I heard some rumors that the next version of the TCP/IP standard will incorporate the MAC address of the particular machine. I know that many people, including me, have concerns about privacy but there could be an up-side. If you could identify the particular machine then you track the spam sender. Then you'd force them to buy new NICs every time they want to send a batch of spam. In effect a financial penalty for spam. Just a thought...
I wish I had a bumper sitcker with "I RPN Heart" on it.
So what happens when you pour this stuff into a Teflon pan?
Mud huh? Next time they'll have to send a Hummer instead of those wimpy electric vehicles.
Does't the card violate a general rule?: NEVER turst the client.
Isn't this just a DoS attack rather than a DDoS attack. Seems like it's coming from a single node.

Well, it's probably easier than building this at home: The National Ignition Facility

not until day 201.
But then you'd end up stuck to the refrigerator.
I believe the term is "Warp 0.000278"
You can get it in Boulder, CO too.

...will it have an integrated MP3 player?
Personally, I'm waiting for a Matlab port to a Palm/PocketPC device.
I get annoyed with that as well. I've taken to saying 'fast' or 'slow' learning curve which seems to reduce confusion.

It's Mbps. mbps would be milli bits per second
yeah, I know, I know practicality. But wouldn't it be cool to just pull up into your driveway and have your car pop up on the network?
