Actually the cotton industry is one of the largest lobby groups against legalization of pot. Also the oil industry spends quite a bit on keeping it illegal (the oils in hemp have many uses). Industrial hemp has so many uses and is so easily renewable that there are quite a few industries who would like to see it kept illegal. So its not just bad cops and drug dealers keeping it illegal, I really doubt that those two groups have enough influence to keep prohibition going (unless you are a conspiracy theorist).
Aww, it makes it look like he is doing something important (fighting the baby killing pirates) and gets him re-elected. All without really having to do anything but take soft money from an industry that gives nothing back to his home state. Shouldnt we be questioning his constintuency instead? Who are these clueless people who seem to have no idea what a tool their senator is? And shouldnt we be educating them?
You dont understand these people, it doesnt matter what happens after the original verdict. Its all about perception to them. Yes the trial was a OMG pony show, but the RIAA and MPAA will milk the original verdict for years. It doesnt matter if the judge is found to have taken bribes and goes to jail. You watch, the fallout from the trial will get little to no press whatsoever. all they cared about was getting the original verdict and showmanship (remember what industry we are talking about). That judge will probably learn an important lesson about dancing with the devil and then die in obscurity, like so many musicians and actors before.
Sure, make undergraduates learn to implement theory in as many languages as possible. Teach them the theory make them learn that the language is irrelevant.
So let me see if I have this straight. People want to break their current contract and buy a new phone? And they are complaining that their is a premium attached to this? My contract with AT&T clearly states that if I break my contract there will be penalty charged, a substantial penalty, much more than $200 dollars. It seems to me that AT&T is already offering a discount on the upgrade if its only $200 to break your current contract. When I bought my iPhone I realized that under the current conditions I was not going to be getting the newest model every year.
That is the problem, the fact that the people who run the industry have turned it into a business model. Its not about the love of music anymore or trying to bring music to the masses, its all become an MBAs wet dream. The whole industry has become a heartless, soulless and mindless money making ponzi scheme. That is why it is incapable of producing anything of merit anymore.
I have to agree with this, comparing an economic system to human social patterns is about the most ignorant thing I have seen on slashdot yet. The poster obviously has no idea what he is talking about.
Actually if there were recorded histories from that long ago we would probably find that most politicians and priests became politicians and priests to avoid becoming tiger bait.
1). The "former official" didnt identity himself. So either he is just trying to conjure up fear or he messed up during his stint in homeland security and is trying to cover up. There is no accountability to the claims being made. A "former official" just makes him sound pissed off he lost his job and is looking to discredit his former employer.
2). There is no real information as to what was installed, and what effect it would have on our electrical infrastructure. Basically the story says "Some random Chinese/Russian guys installed some program on a computer".
3). If this was a real threat it would have been silently cleaned up and no one would have heard about it. Unless this person was incompetent and left these "security threats" in place just so he could make these claims at a later time, which is much scarier than the original threat.
What is it with conservatives and fear? They just cant seem to go an entire day without having to scare themselves into a tizzy. I feel sorry for them.
My point exactly, the definition of God from a holy persons perspective (the dalai lama for example) is quite different than the mass definition of god (killing in the name of god and the bible as the literal word of god for example). Just as the definition of science is quite often different from a scientists perspective than it is from the mass definition of science (most people believe astrology and intelligent design are science). Unfortunately, over time reality is shaped by what the masses believe.
No, I think what is more important is that the market calls it a windows sale (who got the profits?) Manufacturers only see that a windows netbook was sold, so they assume that windows is the preferred OS. It was the same with notebooks and desktops, apparent preference is more important than actual preference. If no one demands a non-windows netbook then no one will build one, so get used to paying the microsoft tax. I am pretty sure MS has already put the licensing in place to force their VARs to sell non-windows netbooks at higher prices otherwise they will loose their cheap licenses.
Religion requires that faith exists to maintain its control. Religion is man-made, man often gets things wrong (ok mostly). Faith only seems to come into the picture when religion wants people to believe the things they made up as they went along. Science, like religion also has its share of false prophets who are only looking to use science to profit off of the ignorance of others. Equating science to the scientific method is like equating religion to god, there is a connection but only tenuous at best.
The thing that really gets me about all of this is that when Apple announced the iPhone they said it would eventually be available contract-free but at a higher price. Why is anyone surprised?
Their inane ability to cut and run when something is at the height of its popularity seems to be a trademark practice of most American media companies. As is their tendency to beat old dead trends to death after they realized they cut and run at the wrong time. This probably explains why 90% of what they put out is crap. Media and marketing do not mix well.
I really doubt he even has the authority to pirate his own album, does he have exclusive distribution rights to his own album? Did he download a torrent? So he was sharing the album while he was downloading? I am waiting for the RIAA vs Ulrich lawsuit, coming soon to a court near you.
I for one welcome our pollution mutated self-aware organic blob overlords.
Obvoiusly you have never seen bukkake, sperm is already pretty easily produced.
Does Microsoft control this "Community Promise"?
Does Microsoft have a big release coming up? Just curious.

Then this is business as usual for the RIAA, only instead of just doing it to artists they are doing it to everybody.

I always thought sharing a laptop was more like sharing underwear. It may look look clean but you never really know!
I think that be fascist bastard?
Its communist bastards that just give their stuff away.
Get your memes straight man!

My guess, enough bribes, kickbacks and payola to make Rod Blagojevich's career look altruistic and get half of Washington fired.

Hang a pair of these off of your netbook. I guarantee no woman will ever call your netbook cute again!
