No, it is not visa versa. The democrats at least will look at a Republican sponsered bill and determine if it is valid. Look at Clinton, he carried over many of George Bush's policies into his presidency. GW came along and threw out everything Clinton did verbatim, even if his own father was the person to originally institute those policies. The republicans are definately starting to resemble the former USSR. Its not about being Americans with them its just about being a member of "The Party", and towing "The Pary" line.
You are probably right, but the PSP was Sonys first handheld, I would expect mistakes, unfortunately those mistakes probably killed the PSP. Movies were too expensive and added nothing to the DVD's I already owned. I couldnt copy a DVD I already owned to a memory stick and watch it (I think this is the one thing that really hurt the PSP). Load times were way too long. And a plethora of other problems.
Sony now has 2 very successful console releases, and I have to assume they are taking what they learned from the PS and PS2 and applying it to the PS3. I keep getting this feeling that Sony is making these statements then sitting back and chuckling while the analysts freak out at the statements. Of course I am also not forgetting that Sony has been acting pretty freaky lately.
sounds like the exact same arguments everyone made when the PS2 came out (who would want to spend $300 on a console). Sony did pretty good with that. Sony must have something orgasmic (VR?) up their sleeves with this Blu-ray (realistic VR?) stuff otherwise they wouldnt be betting the bank on it (remember the commercials for the PS7 when the ps2 came out?). If they are flying blind like everyone here seems to think then they will sink, but Sony is not stupid when it comes to consoles so they will probably swim. They won the last two console wars with systems that just werent that impressive at first glance, and I am guessing they are positioned in some way to win this one also.
I agree, why would you buy something that could potentially get you sued or worse? Has everyone gotten so stupid that they dont realize this? I dont rob banks because I dont want to go to jail, I also dont buy RIAA music because I dont want to get sued. The risk is just too high.
Well of course Microsoft wants all new PC's to be sold with windows. Im sure Goodyear wants all new cars to be sold with Goodyear tires. Gee I wonder if Ore-Ida wants all fast food joints to sell Ore-Ida french fries? Think Sherwin-Williams wants all new houses to be painted with their paint? If I buy a PC without windows, microsoft has no right to "pay me a visit", if they do it would constitute harrasment and I am calling the cops. If I buy a Ford does that mean Chevy and Dodge have right to harass me as to why I didnt buy their products?
And this is my main concern. There are no advocates, just advertisers. Where is the environmental Ralph Nader? Is there anyone in America more concerned with providing honest answers than generating profit for their own bottom-line or some greedy corporations? This is America no one gives a shit, this is all rhetoric, we still have a president with the worst environmental record of any single human being in history. Our corporations are still pumping more toxins into the air than we will ever be able to clean up, while shipping their toxic waste overseas to store in landfills rather than developing ways of cleanly disposing of it. The truth of the matter is maintaining the environment is extremely costly with extremely low profit margins (if any at all), and with todays bottom line thinking I guarantee that America is not a player when it comes to seriously doing something about the environment.
Freenet will never be anonymous in exactly the same way that DRM will never stop piracy. Sure you can get lost in the noise for a short while, but unless you have point-to-point control of the data (and everything in between), anonymity on a public network is a myth.
Offensive humor aside. I dont think an.xxx domain is a bad idea (heck one stop shopping for all my porn needs, I can set my filtering software to filter out everything except the.xxx domain), I just dont think it is a viable idea considering that the people this is suppose to control generally do not like playing by the rules. As invasive as porn advertising is, I really doubt having an.xxx domain would really make much of a difference. All we would get is an internet were you couldnt trust that the URL you are clicking on is the URL you are going to. I definately could see a group getting together to put a redirect server in the.com domain.
Internet porn and children is a parental problem not a technological problem. No matter how much technology you throw at this issue there will always be a way to circumvent it, and the more technology you throw at the this the more you challenge people to circumvent it. There is no substitute for parents talking openly and honestly about porn with their children.
the christian right doesnt want an.xxx domain. That way when their wives catch them at www.underageboys.com they cant say "Really honey its an outreach program for disadvantaged boys, just like Big Brothers".
Actually there will always be small groups of people trying to sieze control of any government in this world. That is the nature of power. It's not a conspiracy, its a given.
The reality of the drug industry is that there really is no profit in curing anything. No one can recoup their R&D costs when they develop cures, you create a one-time market for the product. The real money is in creating treatments, there is no incentive under the current system to produce drugs that cure diseases. This is creating an atmosphere were the people who are actually interested in developing cures are unable to enter the market because of the high costs associated with entering the pharmaceuticle industry, thus stifling innovation and causing the drug companies to sit on their collective asses reaping the profits from drugs that have no real purpose other than to make them more money (see viagra). Do you actually think the polio vaccine would see the light of day today? I dont, what we would see is an increasing number of treatments that make people feel good, but only for a short time so that they have to buy another pill from the drug company. Dont kid yourself, the drug companies are only interested in getting you dependent on their drugs so you have to keep giving them money. They are not concerned citizens trying to improve the health of humanity.
Of course the people in this country do not help the situation. The simple fact that Americans just want some magic pill to come along and cure them of all their ills shows them to be what they really are, a bunch of pill popping junkies.
I doubt HR block would sell your info though even if they could.
What? If they can make a few buck they damn sure will sell your data to whoever is willing to pay for it. HR Block is a corporation which means, it has no morals, it has to concious and no one can be held accountable for it actions (geez sounds like my dick)!
Actually I think the guy just obsoleted his own job. Excecutive vice president of innovation and technology? This is sort of like the mailman saying, "Im not delivering any more mail, but I still want a paycheck". What a maroon.
He is probably right that there will not be a next big thing, at least the next big thing is not going to be coming from the west. At least not until our broken business model is changed. Bottom-line thinking and shareholder value do not lend themselves to large, time spanning research projects, the types of projects that actually produce the "next big thing". The current patent system only goes to aggrivate an already messed up system of hording wealth instead of supplying products the customers want. Massive cutbacks in education spending is assuring that our educational institutions dont have the funding they require to produce the science the engineers in industry use to create the "next big thing". As Chinese and Indian corporations become more independent of the west you will the "next big thing" coming from there, and the west falling farther and farther behind. It wouldnt suprise me if countries like France and America started resembeling the very countries they are enabling to become the new "first world" nations today.
Actually Mattel makes the hover board from BttF2, they have a warehouse full of them ready for distribution. They were suppose to go to market shortly after the movie opened, in what would have been probably the best movie/product tie-in ever. But like all really good toys, parents groups and the moral right got the distribution of them banned before Mattel was able to go to market with them. Actually this is one of the incidents that started the "think of the children" mantra they love to spew when they are afraid of something.
you ever watch how many people go outside when there is a tornado? How many people gather to watch a hostage situation? Peoples desire to watch tragedy is human nature. I bet Americans would act very similarily if the US was attacked in the same way as Iraq was.
They also like to blow each other up, indiscriminately. You dont think that if there was a war going on in America the KKK wouldnt use it as an excuse to indiscriminately kill minorities?
Actually most marines I have met do tend to take life more lightly than others. But the problem is not that they are all a bunch of uneducated hicks (like the parent suggests). The problem is that the marines brain-wash their soldiers into being killing machines. This isnt so bad in time of real war (if it were 1965, Iraq would be classified as a "police action", but that term is not popular anymore). The problem is that Iraq requires finesse, which marines are not taught (they are taught to kill their enemy at all costs). You use marines to take a military objective you then use the army to hold that objective so the marines can go and capture the next flag. This is just more proof that the powers that be have no clue as to what they are doing, and will lead us into folly. The other problem with marines, that is only slightly related to this is that when they are done being marines they are de-programmed. So the marines are creating these killing machines, then just letting them loose on their own society when they are done with them.
but people don't value the lives of Iraqis the same
You mean Americans dont value the lives of Iraqis the same, I would guess that Iraqis dont value the lives of Americans the same as their fellow citizens. Either way, their are no acceptable loses, that is only a symptom of a society that is in the process of self-destruction.
is, I sure hope they pull this off. Unfortunately the reality of EA being such a huge, slow moving, inefficient coroporation, they will probably end up writing a game where the goal is to raise a being from spore to a biped that is drafted into the NFL, likes to play golf on the weekends and is the worlds greatest Quidditch player.
No, you say "Dont do it again, or I will tell to not do it again, again"
all I hear about lately is Global Warming
Maybe because global warming is a REAL problem that needs to be addressed and not ignored.

It is a fine line between genius and insanity you know.

Movie Studio - lets charge 15% more for UMD than the DVD counterpart.
So in other words, Lotus Notes.

to be dangerous free-thinking radicals.
Or are they dangerous free-radical thinkers?
Actually there will always be small groups of people trying to sieze control of any government in this world. That is the nature of power. It's not a conspiracy, its a given.
Wow, I dont know where to begin.
