    Yawn. Why is it that nerds who generally hate typing are so hung up on reinventing the wheel all the time just to meet some meaningless code purity standard. You might not have deadlines but I do and anything that speeds my work up is a good thing. Shit code in pure Javascript abounds; JQuery has nothing to do with the quality of the developer.

    This is a far better way since anything non-IE pretending to be IE will just ignore these. Web designers have been using these for years to load special CSS workarounds for all the bugs in IE.

    Some software doesn't run on anything newer than XP. That's one of the reasons why Vista flopped and why XP Mode for Windows 7 exists.

    Change has to have advantages that outweigh the inconvenience of the change. The ribbon doesn't have those advantages for existing users who have had to completely relearn a large part of their workflow for no improvement in productivity and with the loss of screen space.

    Apple were arguing that the Galaxy Tab could be mistaken for the iPad. Well one has an Apple logo and a brushed metal back, and the other has a Samsung logo and a black back. It's like Ford suing Volkswagen because their car is a similar shape and has a wheel at each corner.

Instead I was able to retrain and get a far better job. Unemployment insurance from the wonderful free market wasn't an option since they don't insure people in temporary jobs.     Office secretaries type lots of letters, doctors type patient notes, policemen write lengthy reports, middle managers write long business cases. I don't know what organisations you post-PC types work in but they're clearly not ones where a lot of work goes on.

    Like many of the others you're forgetting the huge corporate market that will keep PCs around for a very long time, or at least until you can plug 2 20" monitors into an iPad and use it for something other than simple creation and consumption.

    My netbook is really good now I've put an SSD in it. Before that I couldn't use it, it was so annoyingly slow.

    There are some people on here who think that because their needs are met by the Cloud/Linux/a tablet, that everyone else's needs are too. I have an iMac, a netbook running Linux, a smartphone, a Kindle and am about to get an Android tablet. Each one of these devices has a specific use for me. I would welcome a one size fits all device but my 27" iMac isn't really portable, my netbook isn't as fast as my Mac, the Kindle is far better for reading on than my smartphone but my smartphone has some great apps and the tablet I'm getting will allow me to watch videos on the move because it's got a far better graphics card than the netbook.
