I'm beginning to get tired of Slashdot. The idiots just on this one argument trying to tell me black is white make me want to scream. My Slashdot addiction may be coming to an end finally:-)
It's been easy to pirate Windows software for at least 10 years. In that time many software companies have been making huge sums of money. The market is moving away from Windows software gradually but that is utterly irrelevant to the argument.
As for "moving elsewhere": that is unfortunately not a suitable solution for my use-cases.
Don't say that, last time I made the mistake of saying that I needed Windows for something I got a whole army of ultra morons who believe that because they can edit their photos and check their email on the web, that means that no-one needs Windows anymore.
All those companies have made money on Windows even in an area of rampant piracy. So what's your point again? That they're not as successful now? So what? My point is still correct.
Valve, Blizzard, Winscribe, SAP, Adobe, VMWare, AutoCAD, Oracle, McAfee, Norton, Kaspersky,Roxio, Cyberlink, Intuit ad infinitum. Not a hard list to compile.
I seriously doubt you could do it with iOS products either given that you can't charge huge sums of money for phone apps. That is beside the point. Windows has rampant piracy and yet you managed to very well, so the failure of people to make money on Android is not just to do with piracy.
Being successful on any platform is really hard. However there are plenty of companies that have made huge sums of money making Windows software despite rampant piracy.
Yes they made a rectangle without a shiny back and wrote Samsung on it just like the iPad. Then they installed Android, that well known Apple OS. Then they put an SD card slot in it just like Apple did. Oh wait.
Tell me in a few words how NASA, the agency of one government, stopped entrepreneurs from exploring space? Did NASA ban every single aerospace company from selling to private companies. Did they stop new companies from being formed to send people into space? Put the Ayn Rand down and realise that if it wasn't for NASA and the Russian space agency no human would have ever gone into space. Where's the profit in putting a man into orbit? Landing on the moon? Orbital passenger flights are happening now, but that tech had to be proven at vast expense, an expense that no corporation or private individual would have been able to afford even if they'd been prepared to.
I'll try again. The USA is not the only country in the world. The USA is not the only country in the world with capitalists. And yet the privatisation of space travel has only just started, even though people started going into space in the 50s. Perhaps because capitalists are not good with huge risks with little to no return.
He is actually because I produce high quality code to a deadline. I don't sit there dicking about reinventing the wheel just because it fits some meaningless notion of developer purity. By the way 40KB downloads virtually instantaneously on a corporate network and then sits in the disk cache.
Can't say for the Nexus Q. It's well-designed and cool-looking which is one selling point of Apple devices. Whether it's worth the money remains to be seen. I'm just saying that this particular Apple device, for all its higher cost compared to say a Dell XPS, was worth every penny. I discovered that it comes with Apache and PHP installed last night. No fucking about with finding and configuring them, it was a piece of piss. A consumer device with all sorts of developer tools and a full Unix is just brilliant.

Stupid government protecting people from being killed by their jobs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triangle_Shirtwaist_Factory_fire
Don't worry roman_mir has a solution. We just kill them all.
It does have USB OTG however so is upgradeable, albeit less conveniently.
Or on the positive side he could be the precursor to Zefram Cochrane.

The bid might be cheaper. The final cost will probably be 5 times the original quoted value.
Read this and see just how badly behaved Microsoft were. All caps fuckwit.
How do you know they aren't looking into it. But just in case they aren't feel free to let them know.

But Ariane was created anyway despite evil NASA holding back space travel in an area they had no jurisdiction over.

The artist could buy the song from the songwriter at a fixed price.

I have yet to use a Windows PC that works as well as my Mac. Even the Windows Bootcamp installation on my Mac sucks compared to OS X.
Wow an insightful and intelligent AC. Well said.
NASA don't rule the world. Next stupid comment.
You will when someone murders you for your stuff.
