Our evolution is not guided by a democratic process.
No quarrel with you on evolution...that one's been pretty firmly established. But our time, however, is most assuredly guided by a democratic process. (well, at least in the USA, so I'm told)
I went to school in Houghton, Michigan which is actually west of where I live now but I'm in the Central time zone and Houghton is in the Eastern time zone. I guess what I'm trying to say is suck it up, buttercup.
Yeah, they're just like books. All that information at your fingertips and so easy to obtain, but not committed to memory. It's a tragedy. That printing thing really turned us into idiots.
And as long as the pipeline runs downhill, North to South, like they designed the Keystone XL, you don't even need pumps to move the oil! It will just naturally flow, obeying the laws of gravity, reducing energy usage and emissions even further.
Certainly you, as someone who knows what they're doing, should be able to disable auto updates. I guess after that the discussion becomes should they be disabled by default, knowing that millions of other people will never update anything on their own and become infested with malware and spread it as security holes are discovered in older version of popular apps.
There are plenty of gains to be had by optimizing all the sloppy and inefficient code that has been written and re-used through the years which was accepted thanks to constant hardware improvements.
How long until someone decides it would be a good idea for the phone to monitor your pupil size and correlate that with which ads are viewed on the screen and phones home about which ads elicited a response in order to 'provide you with more relevant offers.'
Most of the CGI, at least character CGI, with today's technology is still pretty obvious to me and it bugs me when I'm watching a movie. If I wanted to watch a cartoon, I would have watched a cartoon. It's way, way overdone especially with all the superhero movies that are being shat out of Hollywood these days. I'm all for a little subtle and unobtrusive enhancements to add to the storyline, but I sometimes get the feeling they're trying to save money on production by just doing everything possible with CGI and it really hurts the quality.

Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it. He who doesn't, pays it.
For most things, looking and clicking is less clunky than a voice interface.
Ummm, no. Complex things, probably so. Simple things, probably not.

One unit of work consists of converting 1 ton of carbon from our atmospheric CO2 into a solid form
Hold my beer. I have a plan.
I guess the closer you are to the equator, the less sense it makes.
Notice the phrase "original specifications".
The masses are a completely predictable force and will select the most stereotypical and obvious outcomes every time.
Well, not always.
Meh. I already have free credit monitoring from other breaches.

Since Silicon Valley uses so many contract workers, it shouldn't be a big deal to just poach a few away for a year or two, right?

Try to concealed carry it though.
That could be a real Blue Screen of DEATH
Cheating and being smart are not necessarily related attributes.
Chairman and CEO should always be split anyway.
It sounds simple enough that you should be able to verify yourself pretty quickly.

Boy, it would be a bummer to be lost and adrift at sea and have one of these things cruise by a few thousand feet away from you.
