The general mindset is that creativity is fueled by the profit motive, so the more profit the more progress we will see in the arts and sciences. And while this is demonstrably NOT universally true...

Ingenuity motivates creativity. Greed motivates profit.

They said the same thing about putting a man on the moon. And we've been exploiting the innovation developed from that endeavor for the a half-century. The technology won't exist until you decide to do it and be willing to pay for it. And the largest technological hurdle associated with the space elevator is efficient power transmission to the lift. Otherwise, its not so bad.

What would be interesting is Adblock Plus for the iPhone.

GlimmerBlocker (uses ABP's blacklist) does the trick (or your favorite ad-block daemon). More effective than browser plugins since it works across multiple apps (browser, email, feed reader, etc). Even more effective if you have your own web server w/ said daemon. I do this with all the wired/wireless clients at home. Setup up the iPhone to use your own server via proxy and you'll have all the ad blocking you want.

Probably nothing significant, seeing as you can emulate exactly what a digital memristor does with 6 transistors and some electricity always applied.

Except 1 memristor = (40nm)^3, which is considerably smaller than 1 modern solid state transistor, not even considering 6 of them to achieve the same functionality. Thus, higher density + higher functionality + lower power usage = uber pwnage
