I keep hearing DRM is bad, "always online" requirement is bad and now someone wants to outsource my PC? Bigger latency, less control over my own stuff, why on Earth would I do that?
This vacation I've played Torchlight II in offline mode. So not sure what you mean by "won't start". Note that I switched to offline mode while being connected to the Internet.
If you read Valve CEO's explanation of why Win 8 sucks, it comes down to: "oh, it comes with application store... oh they are gonna dump prices". Now, Microsoft having much smaller margins on its app store than what Valve is used to, is hardly a problem for us, the customers.
So what they are trying to do is basically shifting gaming world off Win platform, not to repeat Netscape's fate. I think this is a win-win for customers:
1) The most problematic part of this move is lack of DirectX on Linux. Valve will have to solve this problem and if they succeed, it affect entire Linux world. 2) We'll finally have somewhat standardized game controllers on PC!
Depends on real world, I guess. In my real world, well written Java code (nothing fancy, just no stupidity) was running on par with C++ code (by "on par" I mean within 3 times slower, quite often within 1 - 1.5; int based code even tend to be slightly faster), but yeah, it needed much more memory. The only part that really seriously lagged behind, was math functions like sin/cos, at the time I've checked, in JVM it was a two pager C code, instead of using CPU capabilities (multi-platformness was the cause I guess).
The major misconception is that JIT is producing code that is inherently slower than static compiler. Well, guess what, it's on the opposite. Unlike static compilers JIT compiler can gather runtime information and use it when deciding which branch to prefer etc. You got memory management, bounds checking etc that you have in Java but don't have in C++, but part of it can be switched off by jvm switches.
Except Porsche has become part of VW in late 2009. Do you know how long it takes to develop a new car? You think that's doable in 2-3 years?
Ok then, try to explain why VW Caddy and Renault Kangoo looks so similar. Or Renault Laguna and Ford Mondeo, or Mazda 6. Or Renault Wind and Ford Ka or Mazda 3.
Dude, child porn is illegal in pretty much any country and even simply possessing such images (which, one could argue, is harmless) would mean prison sentence.
Was about to sarcastically reply to other post, suggesting to mentioned 9/11 attack as pro-gun statement, and here we go.
People killing people without using guns, doesn't invalidate the fact that guns make killing people en mass much easier, as someone breaking into house with locked door doesn't make locked doors useless.
Oh please. So where were all those "normal pro-gun people" and why didn't they stop it? And examples of "violent situations, such as assault, rape, kidnapping" stopped by using firearms are welcome.
Pardon my ignorance, but are you implying that "patents half the shit patented each year" and "invents half the shit invented each year" are the same thing?
"Athlon 64" was released in December 2003 that beat P4 in all regards, price, power consumption, performance. Intel recovered from it only in January 2006 with first "Core" CPU. How does that make AMD to be in "decline entire last decade" pretty please?
So Athlon 64 that wiped the floor with Intel's offering in all regards, doing more and consuming less, doesn't count as "since Athlon XP" or doesn't count as "great chip"?
I think 64 bit ARM doesn't have to be a "server processor". We already have smartphones with 2Gb of RAM. It won't take long until 32 bit CPUs run into memory addressing problem.
Get your facts right please, there was a bunch of x86 manufacturers, so argument "only one competitor" doesn't stand, they were there and they all died, unlike AMD: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_x86_manufacturers
Now, regarding Intel, the company that has bleeding edge fabs, as simply "one competitor" is a demagogy.
x86 is also so much more complex than ARM. AMD in ARM world would be like heavy weight boxer competing with a bunch of 60kg guys.

Sony's OS is again Linux, nevertheless, whether they remove Other OS or not.

"In the world" vs "in US"?
I wouldn't call 100-200 Euro annually expensive.

Something will prevent them form digging a big big hole and throwing good into it, instead of selling it at dumping price to EU/US?
Here is why many prefer ereaders to tablets, reading outdoors:

Is it pure theory or are there facts to support it?

It's not a definitive no, merely "not yet". Covered by Kurt Vonnegut in a novel written in mid 20th century.

You're confusing me guys. So is Apple refusing it out of hand or asking 30-40$ for glorious "pitch to zooms"?
Most "pirates" wouldn't buy it anyway, but it doesn't stop most publishers and all MAFIAAs from chasing them.
There are no software patents in EU though.
SD card is no different than a "different folder".
Some OS-es allow some don't allow you to save data to it.
Such expansion matters as long as "having more memory" matters.
"Convenience" of Apple's way of charging 100$ per 16Gb of flash memory is "proved" by the raise of popularity of "wi-fi HDD"-s.

Might also have something to do with Samsung posting record profits, thanks to smartphone business.
