I never had any audio sync problems with my AIW 9000. The longest show I have recorded was 2 1/2 hours and the recording was perfect. I usually record in mpeg2 at the highest possible resolution and quality; and use windows media encoder to compress it if want to watch it again at a later date.
Maybe sync problems happen if recording is done to non mpeg2 based formats.
I understand your pain. Soem TV stations don't encode CC properly. CNN being the worst offender.
Windows Media Center is the best TV software I have ever used (and I have used so many differenet ones). No other software comes even close to it.
Had it not been for the cost (you have to buy a brand new PC or get a MSDN subscription) I would have hwhole heartedly recommended Windows Media Center over ATI cards. ATI is still the best option for people with small budgets.
There are several good TV Tuners in the market today. However the good hardware is not accomanied by good software. ATI All-in-wonder is a pretty decent tuner card with a good sofware suite. Unless you are getting a Microsoft Media Center PC don't even consider hauppauge cards. Internal cards are better than external cards. TV recording requires lot of bandwidth which USB or serial ports can't provide.
Uncheck the 'copy protect' checkbox under Tools -> Options -> Copy Music in Windows Media Player if you want to use the ripped on multiple machines. Use the lossless encoding if it for archival purposes.
IE development is still going on -- Looking at the Loghorn builds. There are several new improvements. But Microsoft won't release the changes as a new version because of the whole anti-trust bullshit.
Micosoft's force feedback controllers were outstanding products. I have a force feedback joystick and a steering wheel. I bought the steering wheel first for car racing games then got the joystick for flight simulator games. Both controllers were solidly build and have stood a lot of abuse.
Keyboards and mice are just not meant to be used with simulator games. With a keyboard I would be happy land somewhere near a airport. With a joystick I can actually land it on the runway.
You must have a easily guessable hotmail address. My hotmail username has a number & a special character in it. It has never recieved any spam in the 5 years that I have been using it.
Microsoft' ActiveX prompt has bothered me too. My solution was to use Privoxy. It is a happy compromize since most sites work with IE only. It is easy to develop complex websites targetting IE. Netscape has been historically difficult to develop for. Wierdly, the next version of Mozilla will support ActiveX. Go figure.
The usual problem is that some fonts and graphics formats on the mac are not installed by default on windows and vice-versa.
You can install these extra fonts and filter by using a custom install of Office.
Follow these
instructions if you want cross-platform presentations without going through custom install steps.
You didn't answer my question: What kind of queries do you run?
I was interested because one of my devs suggested MySQL for a new application we are planning on developing.
The SQL Server does run on a seperate box - inside a firewall. Our security guys would have a fit if I put any database on a internet facing machine. The website runs on IIS and apps are written in.net.
As far as meeting you is concerned I would rather not. I would like to keep my anonymity on the web.
169 queries/sec does seem to be much. Our website run on MS SQL Server and processes upto 5000 queries/sec at peak time and db server isn't even stressed. CPU usuage is around 20% on the 4-proc 1GB mem 700MHz pentium 3 server. 10% of queries are inserts and updates and the rests are just selects with joins to two or three tables.
What kind of queries are you running?

a person is qualified. I have seens CPAs who are much better programmers than MS in Computer Science degree holders. For most people Degrees are a decoration they don't signify the level of competence in that area. Usually, job time experience more than adequately covers what was not covered in your college years. For the record, I hold a MS in Comp. Science. Does that make me qualified ?

Use a newer version of Textpad.
The new version of Textpad can read UTF-8 encoded files. The old version can only read Latin 1 character set.

I don't use a Mac so I don't know much about.
Are revisions to OSX considered as new operating systems in the Mac World?
It seems to me that it revisions in OS X are equivalent to Service Packs in Windows.
Service Packs usually introduce new features to OS.
There will be two more services packs to Windows XP before 2006. So it seems like both companies are on the same product cycle.
Hope a Monkey Island sequel is next on Lucas Arts' list.

No mention of the identities of the so called security experts either.
So does IE.
In IE, you get a dialog box asking whether requesting your permission to install the plug-in.
