If people truly believe in an ideology such as 'creationism' or any of the other 'isms' why do they feel it necessary to convince the rest of the world to believe it as well? If you truly believe it, deep down, how does anyone else believing it make any difference to you?
If you ask me all these 'isms' are just desperate popularity contests. The more popular the view the more valid it becomes and thus the better you can feel about dying. If you just took some time out and came to your own conclusions without strictly believing in an 'ism' you might find you no longer feel that need to win the popularity contest because you truly believe what you 'believe'.
Maybe I'm just rambling though...

Wow.. you must be a typical slashdot frequenter. If you RTFA you'd know.
It's a nice wishful thought...and if it were true wouldn't we all sleep a little better. I hope for the sake of the nation that people wake up from that dream, not because I'm an asshole and want people to suffer more, but because they're believing in a mirage and it's sucking away their freedoms. This is no joke. There are at least a hundred major inconsistencies with the 9/11 commission's official report compared to eyewitness reports and that's not even mentioning the omissions for which Bush & Co. are have a few upcoming RICO suits against them.
I must admit I was skeptical of the whole thing from the start, but I was 99% sure it has all been a terrible coincidence. I must say I sure felt a lot better about myself and my country when I was so sure.
Homeland security is much more concerned with conducting surveillance on American citizens and watching what WE do than what any supposed terrorists are doing. How else do you explain their high-tech mobile surveillance systems? But they're not alone... no no, the NSA has a pretty heafty interest in us as well as we've seen from previous stories reported today. Why you ask? Well.. possibly because they want to make sure we're this supposed cohesive nation... we have to make sure we're all patriotic so when the next terrorist attack occurs... uh... well we're just more patriotic. And by patriotic that means we willingly surrender our rights for the good of the nation... however that works.
This government can go to hell for all I care. 9/11 was the biggest shame a country could possible commit on itself and now it's a mad dash to make sure all forms of communication about all the deception cannot spread enough to come back to haunt those involved. Just wait for the next attack. I'm betting its a nuclear bomb and it will be blamed on Iran. We've had a vendetta against Iran since the 1950s and boy would their oil rake in some extra dough...
I can't place the blame soley upon this administration though. For things to have come this far it had to have taken years and years of planning and implementation. It's a shame we've got such spineless bastards in 'power'. For anyone who doesn't think money corrupts... get ready to take your pen out and jot down some notes coz hell is gonna break loose in your lifetime. Bet on it.
Blow them up of course. What else can you do when the state takes away your freedoms? Rioting is so 90s.
I have no materiel to carry out that plan. In fact it took me nearly 5 minutes to kill this goddamned spider crawling along the wall and carpet this morning.
I'd rather your grandma take a bullet to the head than lose my internet:) But once again, we're offtopic because this isn't about destroying the internet...
You put way too much emphasis on the mod points. If you truly want to find insight you need to find it for yourself, not by what others think.;) I turned off mod points and browse at -1. It surprises me how much insight and humor I was missing out on before.
That's exactly the attitude that gives them this contrived power. If we simple band together and disobey, what power is left? None. We just have to remember that we make the rules because we are the majority. They ARE elected to serve our interests, but somewhere along the way we forgot that.
Very good to know. I usually see that "4 year degree required" statement and I don't even bother. After all, they wouldn't put it there if they didn't mean it now would they? Apparently that's not so from what you say. I also agree with you about school not preparing you for becoming an admin. I've learned all I know about computers from tinkering around with things. The best thing I could offer this company was that I more interested in what goes on behind the scenes than your average undergrad. If you're motivated purely by the money you'll never have even a semi-solid grasp of what's going on behind the scenes. However, I do work with some people I would consider geniuses who did manage to go to college, graduate, and still want to work in the field. College couldn't quench that insatiable thirst for knowledge and it shows.
I have learned quite a bit about many many different aspects of system and network administration and I still have a long long way to go before I could comfortably move on to another company, but I know no school courses can really prepare you for what happens when you're out here. They can give you pointers and hints, but they either can't or don't teach you the mentality you'll need to do the job right and keep on going.
Wait... let me get this straight... we're supposed to give 2 flying fucks about your college professor's beef about misspelling gandhi? What has this world come to?
GHANDI GHANDHI GANDHI... its all the same. He was just another idiot among the masses who did his own thing. Neat.
I find your comment to be insightful and a bit deeper than the average response. Well said. I think it's something every geek knows, but many won't admit or aren't strong enough to fight the greed.
I got a pretty decent entry position into a tech company with little formal experience and 1 year of college. I've been trying for years and when I'd pretty much given up opportunity knocked. Now we're hiring 3 more technicians with various backgrounds that don't really relate to what we do, but we need people badly.
One thing I've learned from my experience here is that I SHOULD be able to get a system/network admin job just about anywhere in Iowa. Many of the people I'm troubleshooting with on a daily basis couldn't tell you the difference between DNS and SNMP, much less what a VPN tunnel is or how e-mail works.
But there's always that "bachelor's degree required" barrier for those jobs. It's pathetic.
I'm pretty sure they do. These days you hand them a dollar and they give you that 'wtf?' look. Like hey buddy, what the hell am I gonna do with $1? One guy asked me for $5 for pizza. Living under a bridge or in a dumpster and you need $5 for pizza.... riiiight.
After reading that there review I wouldn't touch one of these things with a 10 foot pole. For $99 headphones should at least be noise cancelling which I don't see any mention of.
No kidding. I mean really people, what is the big DEAL? If you're not hiding anything, WHY WORRY? Are there really that many of you out there who are terrorists or have ties to terrorism? If so, you should be ashamed and turn yourself in to homeland security right now. I don't know who put it in your american heads that you're shit is so special it requires a judge's warrant to slice it out of the vacuum sealed pack and sniff it.
We will not stand for terrorism in this country do you hear me?!
Have you never lost data on those dvds? We used to back up photo projects and the like on CDs a few years ago, and the cds only seemed to last about 2 or 3 years before they made the cd drive shit itself and wet the bed all at once. On the other hand, only once in my life have I had a hard drive eat shit on me. That was most likely due to being in my dorm where there was lots of beer, people, rowdyness going on...

For the love of God quit with the acronyms! Do we REALLY need to shorten "people with AIDS" to PWA?!! Enough is enough...

Maybe they should make a RTFA-aid... of course no one would buy it anyway... back the drawing board.

I find your sig rather insightful. +1 imaginary mod point.
The poor people would riot and over turn every lousy stinkin government on the face of the Earth. Just to turn around and set them all back up again.
I don't understand how this affects you in any way?
So they finally came up with an engine that doesn't vaporize on contact with a concrete wall? Awesome. Take that terrorists! HAH!
Wait... aren't his polls at their lowest right now? That must mean we're at least within 5 caves...
Can't we all just get along?
Seriously though, I don't see the need for a debate on which site is better... just use what you use and let it be.
