Studio Pitch Shifting is done in post
on
Pitch Perfect Karaoke
·
· Score: 2, Informative
For voice corrections that all the boy bands do, they tape their singing and the engeneer sits down and listens to it over and over with a little graph of adjustment/time. if the singer is sharp or flat (or worse) the engeneer adds a little curve to the graph and the recording is pitch shifted by that ammount at that time. Done very carefully, yes you CAN clean up anything.
This new machine proposes to take the engeneer's seat as well as the processing equipment's. It will most likely read a signal telling what pitch the singer should be at and analize the incomming signal from the mic and based on a comparison of the two shift up or down.
One problem I have always noticed with live, real-time pitch shifting (NOTE: not auto-correcting, simply pitch shifting) is there is a delay, a millisecond or two, but enough to be audible. Methinks adding all the analysis time into the mix will add a little more delay and the singing will sound off! Hopefully they'll get it running smoothly...even if it takes all the fun out of Karaoke.
There is a world of difference between causing seizures and causing suicide.
Well I know when my computer tells me to kill myself you better lock your gun cabinet REAL good, baby.
I'm reasonably sure the only logical reason he would have killed himself (if there is such a thing) is that he was depressed he couldn't play the game anymore because of his health condition. If it was anything more idiotic like "I lost my shield with a +9 against ogers!" then I'd say drop the case. Likewise, if his health condition drew him to it through an epliepsy-induced state of mind then he was aware of the risks of playing and shouldn't have been.
And if the seizures can cause personality disorder (which he suffered) or suicidal behavior (any doctors care to comment if that is possible) then that should be in any new warning labels.
No, I believe that is the doctor's responsibility, informing the paitient of his condition. And, untimately, the PAITIENT'S responsibility for choosing to stare at a strobing CRT for hours and even days on end, with full knowledge of the possible, even probable, implications.
I believe people should be made aware of any risks that are known.
I agree with you, but do you really think it is the responsiblity of the game manufacturer to take every case into account? I would think "Dangerous for epileptics to play" should have been more than enough for this man to realize he needed a new hobby.
Ummmm however I've never played it or read the manual but I assume it comes with a warning, most if not all do, I figured it was law. If Everquest doesn't warn you then this is a little different, but it's not as if using a computer, Everquest or not, is safe for epileptics either.
This makes me wonder: Do computer monitors come with a warning like this in their manuals? I have a monitor right here that I can actually the see flicker from the 60Hz refresh in the corner of my eye if I look away. If I was epilleptic I'd probably twitch liek you where running 400 volts through me.

Apple has been showing XPlay at Macworld Expos and already had a legal issue with the original name XPod.

Your phone, your digital TV, and your Internet service could all come over the air, not only making them low maitenence and high quality, but PORTABLE to wherever you go! Wouldn't this be awsome? Even your car would become easily Internet-ready. Need directions anyone?
Of course, security would become an issue, and I'm sure there would be heavy subscriber fees, plus there would be encryption preventing you from leaving your "local service area" without extra charges, and who knows how big that will be (in fees and/or radius). You could be traced back to your phone, computer, or car quite easily and some geek at the Service Provider's main office would know exactly where on I-90 you decided to click on "Debbie does Dallas 2000".

WASHINGTON - In a startling move today, legislators in Washington voted to pass the new and controversial File-transfer Universal Contraban Treaty. Under this new law, any and all transfer of data across the Internet that can be catagorized as a "file" is hereby banned. This will effectively end such file-sharing nusances such as Napster, Gnutella, and the blatantly-illegal File Transfer Protocol.
In related news, the RIAA and MPAA jointly announced the grand opening of their online digital movie/music store today, before being fined and having their equipment confiscated under violation of the recently-passed FUCT bill. "We're going to loose millions on this deal, it's an outrage!" said Jack Valenti, fresh out of the hospital after recovering from a carpal-tunnel injury sustained while signing lobbyists' checks. "We will fight this in the highest courts until justice is served"...

REDMOND - In a shocking announcement today, Microsoft CEO Steve Balmer annoucend to an astounded press corps. what the world had suspected the entire time: Microsoft programmers couldn't produce good code if Linus was their college professor.
"That's right," said Balmer, "if Microsoft is forced to remove Internet Explorer from the Windows XP operating system, I duh dunno what we're gunnah do!" Balmer also explained how a programmer (who was subsequently fired) accidentally added "all the.c files for IE into the Windows kernel Visual Studio project," and continued by explaining that the OS was made to work strictly by "luck" and that subsequent releases became more and more costly because "we had to hire alot of people to do alot of guesswork."
Reporters from the T.R. Press tried to reach Balmer for later comments, but reached an automated recording exclaming "Give it up for me! WOOOOOOOOOOOO......"

Therefore they have the resources to buy off elected officials and get restricted laws passed. And let's not pretend for one second i'm being "unconstitutional" or "anti-american" by suggesting our politicians take kickbacks, either.

Linux hackers from Germany and elsewhere are working on a Windows-like graphical interface for Linux PCs called KDE (for K Desktop Environment). They expect to release it this spring--free of charge.
So when this new KDE thing comes out this spring to finaly give Linux a graphical interface, where will I be able to download it from?
Of course this woudl be up to the programmer but I know i use this technique and so do the authors of the SpriteWorld libraries for Mac.
Since ADB (Apple Desktop Bus, this is from before the golden age of USB) can only recognize two keys being held at once on a keyboard as read through GetKeys() (keyboard polling function on the Mac), it was always deemed better to capture keyDown, and more importantly, keyUp events and keep a map in the program. I'm nut sure how it works with USB or in the Linux/Wintel/x86 world but even with the two-key limit of GetKeys() I can still see every key press and every key release, i can hold down 10 keys at once and release the 4th and it will register.
If there is a way to apply such a technique under other OSs/platforms it would be well worth trying, for the sake of not killing your friend.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in order to properly copyright something (which I'm sure M$ made absolutely sure to do, seriously), don't you have to send a copy of it to the Library of Congress?
