  1. Re:Freedom to choose _multiple_ STBs? on Sony Introduces Passage · · Score: 1

The current US DAVIC standard will allow any DAVIC compliant box to operate on any system.. HOWEVER.. the catch is the CA (Conditional access part). as that, for now, is tied to each box and/or the QAMs.. boxes from one cable system can not be moved to another cable system if they are using another vendor's hardware (QAM or other). More of the vendors are considering using a plug-in CA unit which will allow such movement.. but until that day comes...

Like I said, at the time, TOTL.. tis a shame too, because I like it.

I don't think $1500 is too bad for it..

Oh sure.. just as you get the TOTL model like 2 months ago, apple throws you a curve ball and adds the superdrive and bumps up the video/cpu..

You know, I'm starting to think that all laptop manufactures should start adding a shipping label that says

"Warning Obsoleted Equipment Enclosed, please contact your manufacturer to obtain a newer obsoleted device"

Anyone want to buy a G4?

    How is this for funny..

I ordered mine 2 days ago... (Ultimate model then).. and today.. I see the upgraded version.. I quickly call apple begging, pleading, sweet talking the lady into upgrading me with the new model...

Thank goodness the 667 Mhz one was backordered..

  6. Re:Isn't it narrowing? on The Widening Tech-Savvy Gap · · Score: 1

Just shear growth means that more tech savy people are going to be around once the baby boomers fade..

But we are still left with the issue that once people have aclimated to the current state of tech (the ones that are considered average.. ie: VCR, DVD, cell phone, BASIC computer abilities, toaster for some).. the battle will continue. What we are dealing with is the fact that many people (and this is fairly universal) don't want to try and break/fix the latest wiz-bang toy, gadget. Many people don't want to learn how to make their computer do more than just dial up to AOL.

So many people are more than willing to deal with substandard service and quality simply to avoid learning.. The younger generation embraces change because everything around/within them is changing. The older generation tends to seek the status quo and unless forced to, won't make any jumps.

And its not 86% its 92% of all statistics are made up. *grin*

I live in NYC as well.. and my condo is pretty well insulated so, my Yamaha Reciever and Bose acustamass (sp?) 15 speakers work just great.. --- Oh no.. I went to a microsoft web site.. now I will have to reload my linux box.
