The person you're replying to doesn't even know how to use proper spelling or grammar, let alone coherent reasoning. Replying to idiots like that just isn't worth it.
On the other hand, your awesome insult-laced reply had me cracking up so much I had tears in my eyes. Definitely worth the read.
And that's the main problem with metered rates isn't it? It stifles innovation and encourages us to all go back to the dark ages of the internet. No matter what the price, the intangible cost of caps and tiers is too great for society to bear.
Actually I'm glad the Japanese don't know English well. Helps keep their culture unique and different from the US. I'm not exactly fond of Western cultural imperialism.
You realize Time Warner Cable and similar companies spend minimal amounts of money on infrastructure investment versus the profit they make, right? They have insanely high 28% profit margins. TWC spent $37 million on infrastructure last year, while making a cool $4 billion in profit.
Other countries in Europe and Asia offer infinitely better service and speed at better prices.
Regardless of what technical arguments you try to make, those economic facts alone force a lay observer to realize you're just spitting up lies and excuses.
Simply look at your comment: "but why should I pay more so that a handful of bozos can exchange movies". You're a very narrow-minded fool who can't wrap his head around the idea that there are other high-bandwidth uses for the internet besides torrent of pirated files.
Ultimately caps and metered-billing are horrible ideas. They force people to "negotiate" their internet usage. A person has to ask themselves "should I play a game online or watch a movie". This kind of attitude stifles innovation and progress as everyone's worried about their bill.
BTW, if you respond to my comment don't focus on my last paragraph. Respond in kind to my points about the cable companies' unprecedented profits.
Oh please. You're like a 15 year old who vehemently screams that everyone marries their ideal person because everyone's tastes are different and so EVERYONE'S PERFECT OMG!. And you swear like one too.
In real life we compromise. We always settle for less than we want. This includes the woman we marry, the job we get, the people we befriend and associate with, the home we live in. To claim that one's wife is 'deeply beautiful' is without a doubt nothing more than sucking up. I'm sure he'd like to believe what he said, but it's nothing more than a cognitive tool for alleviating stress from his life. So get over yourself.
The chances of your wife being 'deeply beautiful' are almost nil. So yes you are sucking up to your wife. And no men don't gradually find girls they live with to be more and more attractive over time. On the other hand, women find men they like to be more attractive than they really are.
UK, US, it's hardly different. It's even present among the conservatives. They take no sides.
And yes, I'd say that when a man *earns* tens of millions of dollars and then has to pay half of it to a wife who chooses to leave him, a wife who did nothing to earn that money, I'd say that's unfair.
Heck, the brother of the owner of Cablevision owns my city's baseball team. We had cablevision here 4 or 5 years ago before they sold the division to Adelphia, which is now part of TWC.
The fact that you thought I was personally insulting you demonstrates your own irrationality. What I stated is the truth for the vast majority of people, including myself.
This think tank's claims are pure garbage. You all need to read this article from arstechnica about how the peak and average load on the internet backbone has actually dropped over the last couple of years.

Um...no. No one wants to replace their computer with a PSwhatever or Xbox whatever, and vice versa. One you can play on the comfy sofa, the other you must sit in the stiff wooden chair and stare at the screen with your eyes 2 inches away.
Someone mod this insightful. There are so many older people out there who think their "50 cent hamburger" was a much better value than todays $1.00 piece, without realizing how much the dollar has been devalued through inflation.
I'm actually impressed with your grasp of English despite it not being your native language. As for those who get frustrated with bad grammar, it happens because they associate it with the more common instance of a stupid pre-teen or uneducated adult born and raised in America with access to the internet. Their idiocy knows no bounds.
You are seriously screwed up. A puppet in the war on terror? And what the *devil* do you mean "why bother"? BOTHER WITH WHAT? They hire phone and door-to-door salesmen to go around selling their product to everyone all over the place. It's an extremely effective tactic. You just happen to be in the middle of one of those sales areas. You think they send *just you* mail and call *just you*?
Look, take my advice: Go see a psychiatrist and ask for some medicine. Pop a chill pill and realize no one, not Verizon or the government, not your friends or your dog, not your neighbors and not even that stupid cockroach that you can't get rid of, cares who you are. No one ever will. You'll never amount to anything, your life is meaningless, and when you die you will quickly be forgotten. So get over yourself.
They DON'T need any customers to subsidize costs. The point here is that DOCSIS 3.0 *doesn't* take a lot of money to implement. Verizon apparently can afford to upgrade their entire network to FTTH without having a few users "subsidize costs". In Japan they're beginning to roll out *gigabit* internet. So what is the excuse for cable companies like TWC making $4 BILLION in profit per year during the biggest economic recession since the '70s? You need to read arstechnica's article about TWC's internet business's costs. You have no idea how little they spend on maintaining their network.
Look at the computer chip industry, where two major players take turns being profitable versus in the red, all in an effort to offer better products than the other to gain as many customers as possible. That's how businesses should work. Yet every cable company is making money hand over fist.
If they wanted to, these US cable companies could easily upgrade all their networks to DOCSIS 3 and be offering 100+ mbit connections to most people in the US. But they don't, because they're trying to be anti-competitive towards online services that might threaten their other businesses.
I actually couldn't finish reading that guy's post either. The constant 3 or 4 word questions and bold-faced type made him sound like a complete fruitcup. I'd put my money on the bet that this guy's gay.
What if you're the kind of guy who doesn't think women are perfect little angels that bless you with their presence, and don't care whether or not you "get a piece" (which in fact ironically leads you to having better relationships in general)?
Your stupidity is endlessly amusing. I love encountering people like you in real life.

s/he? Ugh... that's almost as bad as Spock saying "Where no *one* has gone before". Please save me from the stupidity.

This is so cool. I'm glad that all the vendors, and not just Nintendo, are adopting these new technologies.

You pay for movies that suck, so why not games?

Just another example of the US's screwed up, feminist lobbying group-driven laws that favor women over men.
The Japanese don't let their women control and ruin the lives of their men. They also make cool games and have fast internet. Yay for Japan.

Uh...no. We have a long way to go before we get our fully ray-traced, photo realistic graphics.

TWC made $4 billion/year in profit during the biggest economic recession in decades. They don't need meters.
