I tend to agree on the resource issue of steel but I think you are looking at the Mexican thing from the wrong mindset. More people working mean more people buying meaning more demand meaning more jobs. By importing the Hispanics we are creating more jobs than if we had a limited labor pool. I teach quite a few undocumented people English and have given this issue a lot of thought. As for them being in South Carolina you should look at the numbers. The Hispanic population here grew by 200% in the past few years. I would say only 0.1% are here with papers. Having a open border or free trade does help in as many ways as it hurts.
The problem with you logic regarding Globalism, outsourcing and the like is that the earth is still a finite pie of resources just like any state or country. Once the world is Globalised with uniform trade law even without worker protection the standard of living will rise for everyone and the world will be better of. Just think about how it works in the US with each state being free to trade with any other state.
A case in point for this is southern states of the US such as South Carolina. Nobody works for the min wage and this is a right to work state with no unions yet at least in the citys the mean income is around 40,000K a year. Note bad seeing as how we are only 100+ years post reconstruction where the south was destroyed.

Very true. We have a lot of customers of CrossOver but there are plenty of people that just use stock Wine for the Windows apps they need. By buying CrossOver or StarOffice you make it possible to insure the really nasty bugs get fixed that maybe someone working on FreeSoftware as a hobby does not want to mess with.
The goal is to make it work like it does under Windows so if there is a bug in most cases its related to something missing in Wine. CodeWeavers spends a lot of effort to make Wine bug for bug compatible with Windows.
The problem is Linux/OSS alternatives is in some cases they just are not good enough. Take OpenOffice for example. Its great and I like it dont get me wrong. But it has nothing on the features that are in even Office97 not to mention compatiblity with formulas in excel, etc.... In any case I really hope OpenOffice 2.0 is better.

Well I take support requests from at about 20 new people a day running CrossOver. Not to mention some of those customers are more than 1 user. In some cases you are talking about sites that have a license for 10-100 seats of CrossOver.
The LSB defines a set of APIs and libraries along with the locations in the filesystem. This project adds a layer to intercept the Linux Syscalls and either redirect them or implement them as Solaris Native. This is the same thing the Wine does except that Wine exists only in userspace.
A better example would be Linux emulation on FreeBSD. Solaris is doing the same thing the FreeBSD people have been doing for years.
You can think of this support for Linux apps on Solaris as the same way Wine works. It provides a layer of support by implementing the needed APIs without having to deal with a total emulation enviroment.
I was doing some security work for goverment agency in South Carolina and this was the method we used for getting better deals out of Microsoft.
MS Sales rep: "This is the best deal we can give you" Client: "OK thats fine. Our IT staff is suggesting moving to Linux" MS Sales rep: picks up a cell and calls the office....."uh-hu"..."linux"..."uh-hu"....hangs up phone. "Ok how about this deal on a Open License package. We can knock another 20% off."
The Microsoft sales team has been ordered to win over Linux at all costs and they mean it.
Dont get me wrong, Microsoft spends quite a lot of money on R&D but patenting a invention or in some cases the lack there-of is standard practice for any company. Microsoft should focus on Quality not Quantity.

...and its great. I talk with our developers that are all over the world for nothing. Its also nice because I am a 20 hour drive from the office so I dont have to go in to answer my phone calls. The Asterisk voicemail system even emails me a wav file with Voice Mail in case I am not looking at the phone.
On one hand I dont want to see SCO win anything but on the other hand I wish autozone would burn. They decided to Corporate Restructure my father as a manager after working there for almost 20 years. Its a shame when you make more than your bosses boss........like I said while I dont like SCO, this case could not have happend to a nicer business.
And they are still Bacteria. They didnt become the Duck Billed Platapus or anything. Sure adaption happens but its a big leap to say this adaption is evolution.
I am sure you have seen a bat right? Its a rat with Wings. There are very few other animals like it that fly. Did the rat randomly develop wings? How did it randmonly develop wings but also wings that were able to handle flight rather than wings like a kiwi bird.
Nature speaks to a design with a plan not a random collecting of "mistakes". Look at a city, it may look like a cluster of mass mess that just grew out of nowhere. And its true that the interaction of people and events are semi-random but you cannot say "The house was developed by random chance or the evolves from the carrage". These things were designed by someone higher.
I have been working on getting CoLinux working under ReactOS for quite a while. It would allow you to have almost 100% linux compatiblity as you are just running the Linux kernel as a process under Windows.
This is not funny. I have been working on ReactOS and WINE for quite a few years and do not want to see my work put at risk. Or have my project become the target of of a Microsoft Sco-like case because some twit puts Microsoft code in to ReactOS.

Brett you had the answer for them with GEM!!!! If they had done what you said Borland and not microsoft would be in control.
If you know all and see all in computing tell me how I can make ReactOS a better and more used system. Oh and dont bother telling me to relicense BSD/X11 because some of our developers are long gone and we cant change the license of there code.

As a Free Software developer this SCO news bothers me more and more as the story unfolds.
From GPL violations to this gangster type activity you would think that someone would put SCO to task here. I still own one share of SCO stock and am holding on to it for no other purpose than to help bring suit to them for these type of actions. What can they be nailed on and how can I as a stockholder help?
Note: I sold the rest of my SCO stock when this mess first started and purchased Novell.

The Constitution does not grant you rights it enumerates them. The 9th Amendment spells this out.
"The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people."
