As for the utterly irrational economic policies that have resulted in scores of directionless kids heading to college and picking the easier majors, distorting the market for technical degrees and leaving us with bottomless piles of college-educated baristas, well.
I hate to break it to you, but at my college a CS degree IS one of the easier degrees. Physics, math, biology, even history and music were much harder, more intense in depth studies. Literally anyone could get a CS degree. I don't know where I'm going with this either, but most IT professionals I know do not have CS degrees.
We could even just give capital to the third-world countries, or invest in their education and infrastructure. Even that would reduce the risk of a terrorist attack way more then the stupid TSA. But instead we giving Millions of money to people to search babies, kids and some random people so we have a one in a million chance to find anything.
Because there's no profit in education. Someone is making a killing selling the TSA x-ray machines and agent services. Those are the people that need to be stopped. Them and the senators/congressmen in their pockets.
You learn server administration and networking by doing, in particular, solving problems. You learn architecture by knowing what was done wrong in the past, and not doing it that way.
Use your unlimited budget to bring in a contractor who has a ton of experience in the field. Learn everything that you can from them while they are available. And make sure everything gets documented.
I never thought there'd be a way to look like even more of a douche than the bluetooth headset, but behold, society proves me wrong once again. Where there is a will, there is always more douchiness.
Guitar Hero is on hold, sure, but Activision is planning a new game in 2012/13. RockBand by Harmonix is still going strong, albeit not as strong as 3 years ago. They continue to release DLC, and they are selling compatible Fender guitars (yes, real guitars with strings and everything) faster than they can make them to use in the game. Not only that, there are two new guitar training games that just came out and are selling pretty well.
So this dead music genre is news to me. No longer the biggest fad, but far from dead.
Doesn't matter. Everyone who wants to believe it already does, and no amount of proof is going to change their minds. Fox News runs retractions all the time, and still a quarter of the country believes that Obama was not born in America. The cult of Apple Haters are the ones with the reality distortion fields.
Worry about stabilizing the regional governments first and then worry about upgrading them to first world farming techniques.
Keeping those who know how to farm alive and on the land they know how to farm will be necessary to make new equipment have any lasting effect.
And first world lower birth rates. Many refuse to admit it, but births will always stay ahead of available food until any culture adopts modern birth control.
We tend to get the governance we (as a whole) desire. If you want to change the system, stop voting for either of the two parties. Only when third parties can win elections will we see real change.
Revolution does not come from getting people to vote for a less unsavory politician. There is too much money, too much power, at stake for the ones in control to just sit back and let real change happen. Either they use their finances to bury your independent message through lies and scandals, or else they just wait until they can get the new politicians under their control, one way or another. The problem is not the folks in office, it's the ones who control them. They are very good at what they do.
The first thing that I thought of was Sunday Science School. The equivalent of your typical christian bible studies for kids, but taught by a volunteer scientist, for those kids that are not receiving proper science instruction.
I don't see how it's Fox's fault, all TFA said was that Elon Musk said the craft could be used to complete the Mars mission. Summary was way off from reality, but the article seemed to be done without hyperbole or bias.
It can, as long as you're not stuck with the concept of straight trip from ground to Mars. The rocket would be used to send the pieces up into orbit to be assembled into the Mars vehicle.
Come on, people! We should all know this already. Just because "Algebra II" is a predictor of success, doesn't mean that it causes the success. It is much more likely that the smarter students who are (or at least were, before the depression) more likely to succeed are also more likely to take Algebra II. Making everyone take it is going to have about as much success as cargo cults did.
Actually the most likely outcome will be that Algebra II adopts the existing Algebra studies, and Algebra I gets dumbed down even more.
I'm a consultant in telecom. I see this every day. I'm convinced that any project, no matter how big can be done by 6 people.
That's true. But the problem is that for every team of 6 dedicated engineers, there's a team of 6 incompetent dick-wads that will goof off and get nothing done, or else stretch out the process as long as possible and spend as much money as possible to skim off as much money as they can. Management doesn't trust engineers because usually they are not as technical (I hate to say smart), and really do not understand the issues. And of course the engineers do not trust the managers, since they are just getting in the way of getting work done. So guess who are the ones that are most likely to play nice with management? The exact dick-wads that they were trying to keep out. It is a rare thing where management knows that they can trust their engineers to not only get the work done, but get the right work done, and let then free to work as they see fit.
A banker making $250,000 is barely above the poverty line. Cut them a break! Look at all the good they do for this country!
A teacher making $50,000 is living a lavish lifestyle on the public's dime. They're spending this country into bankruptcy. And they're doing it in only 9 months out of a year.
You have to get into the mind of the conservative to understand this. I worked for a startup that had lots of layoffs. I commented to the financial manager that it's not fair that the layed off receptionist got two weeks (crap) pay and nothing else, and the VP that was layed off got 3 months pay and job finding services for an indefinite amount of time. He looked at me like I was crazy. The VP has 3 kids in college and a mortgage on a million dollar house. How else could he meet his bills? No comment that the receptionist will be eating baloney sandwiches for months until she finds a new job.
To the conservatives, those that are rich are a different class, a royalty if you will. They are rich due to the grace of god. Those that are not rich are scum who refuse to work. They themselves? Are either rich (minority) or poor and believe that they one day will be rich too (majority) through winning the lottery or some such, if god wills it. To quote Joe Strummer "Let fury have the hour, anger can be power D'you know that you can use it?"
He has been involved with philanthropy in the U.S. Pacific Northwest for 20 years, largely through his Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, handing out more than $1 billion in grants and funding for local projects.[1]
Last year he pledged his remaining wealth (USD13.5B) to charity.
Allen has been a philanthropist since Gates was at the height of his douchebaggery. You... you're just an ass.
Let me put this very simply. Fuck your philanthropy. These sociopaths get rich by screwing over everyone they can, putting thousands out of work, destroying other companies, making other people poor, not paying taxes that could be used for social services, and then use foundations and charities in their later years to hide their wealth which they realize that no human being could spend himself anyway. Saying "I'm sorry here's a nickel" after leaving a swath of death and destruction is not commendable.
People will PAY EXTRA to cheat depriving themselves of any glory in accomplishment... for the empty bragging rights that come with having something you didn't earn, and which has no inherent real world value.
But they still do it in droves.
The accomplishment being clicking on mobs until your finger falls off? Just saying. It's a time waster no matter how you play it. Not that there's anything wrong about that.
There's no way that a company the size of Microsoft does not have pirated software running somewhere. So pass the law, audit Microsoft, and stop them from selling Windows. The world would be a better place for it.
I apologize in advance for my lack of electrical knowledge. But would anything resembling modern standard household wiring even be able to handle that?
Silly person. No one is going to power up your house for charging. That will be set up at your local charge station, owned by BP or some other large corporation, where you will pay with a credit card to charge up your car in about 3 minutes for approximately $40 per charge. You can also pick up some snacks while you are there.
Nothing more than a bogus lead-in story talking about the product that the story's author is "preparing to release someday". Basically, creating a problem for his "solution".
News flash: develop your damn product first, let people try it out, and THEN promote it. Astroturfing vaporware is the epitome of hubris.
And it's also how you get VC dollars. Spend money, never develop product, profit.
Try a Japanese dating sim some time. They are generally role playing games about relationships, family, and sex. Lots of sex. Graphic sex. Sex in every possible variation and combination. And they are marketed to teenagers, who are interested in learning about, you guessed it, sex. What a concept.
The real challenge is not getting a vehicle to go that speed... It's getting a vehicle to stay on the ground and under control at that speed.
Exactly. It shouldn't be "fastest car." It should be "lowest flying rocket." And when you think about it, what exactly is the point of building such a rocket?
Why do Americans across the country not simply not occupy Wall Street?
Why have you been so effectively programmed to accept the shit you're fed?
Not a statement against sound long-term investment, but against casino capitalism and cronyism.
I come from a country which has experienced a revolution in my lifetime.
Why can't you?
Break and circuses. The people are well fed, well entertained, and generally very lazy. Half of the country is kept in a constant state of paranoia, hatred of gays/Muslims/liberals, and worship of the moneyed rich. They're the better armed half also. The counter revolution would nearly impossible to oppose.
I am wondering if there will be shareholder suits. Elop's action is clearly not in the interest of Nokia shareholders as graphically demonstrated by the trading results today.
Even more interesting would be if evidence of breach of fiduciary duty was uncovered on Elop's part. Were bribes paid?
It's not bribes. It's half ownership of yachts, lifetime memberships to exclusive golf clubs, promises of cushy jobs when he gets fired, etc. etc. Just like a lot of serving Senators and other Representatives.
So what do we learn kids? Don't talk about the skeezy shit you do to anyone: friend, family, coworker, or other. If you do bad shit, keep it to yourself.
You've never worked in trading (IT end), have you? These guys are immune from normal laws. At the CBOT in Chicago, there were drug dealers selling coke right outside the front doors. The police were NEVER to be found. And there was a lot of buying, piles of coke spilled on the bathroom floors, etc. Most of the traders were college football players/econ majors. I kid you not. They need to be large and imposing to get seen/push their way around on the trading floor. The company I worked for would burn them out at a rapid pace.
Anyway, this kind of talk was quite common. When you are above the law, who cares, you know? When the worse prison sentence you can get is a 3 month vacation at golf course, who cares?

Isn't this already covered by the gas tax, which is inherently incurred on a "per mile" (gallon, really) basis?
Anything that can be taxed, will. Those things which can not be taxed will be fined.
The law is trying to favor gas guzzlers over energy efficient vehicles, thereby stimulating the sales of more SUVs. At least that's how I read it.
If you have not seen An Unearthly Child, then you are not allowed to comment.
Start at the very beginning. I wish that I had. For the record, I started watching with the 4th Doctor, the first one broadcast in the US.
