  1. Re:Skeptical on Uber Shows Its Flying Car Prototype (cnbc.com) · · Score: 1

PS, I believe a hexa (6) rotor copter and have one rotor fail and still fly, and an octa (8) rotor copter can have up to 3 rotors fail and still fly, so my money would be on 8 rotors. This is all contingent on payload and other factors, of course.

  2. Skeptical on Uber Shows Its Flying Car Prototype (cnbc.com) · · Score: 1

Ever seen a quad-rotor drone have one of it's rotors fail? Gravity takes over pretty quickly. I'd feel a lot better taking a ride in one of these things if they were hexa or octa rotor systems, but maybe that's what they will morph into if they ever get to a production stage.

  4. I think a great determiner of whether or not one would pick up the call is if you are salaried or hourly. If salaried, the temptation may be greater to ignore the call as once you do start answering that may indicate to the boss that it's OK to call anytime outside of work hours. If hourly, then go ahead and pick up the call and then claim the time on your time card. It will get real expensive real quick if that's the case and that would naturally solve the problem. Also, it depends on the expectations and line of work. Are you the only one that can fix a critical business service/process/piece of equipment, etc? If so then ignoring a call could be dire for your career (but if that was the case then any self respecting organization would have an on-call plan set up anyways, so that may be a moot point). If not I would definitely ignore the call as it can always wait till the morning (or whenever you start your shift).

I get that Germany is now an EU member and 'western ally', but part of me still gets nervous at the thought of giving Germany back the ability to acquire too many military toys. It hasn't been even 100 years since the last time they ran rough shod over Europe like a bunch of drunken frat boys. I swear after the end of world war 2 they should have just disbanded Germany and called it New America or some such thing. Same with Japan.

  6. Eh? I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure Germany didn't 'win the war' (at least the last two major world wars). ;)

When the debt collector comes a knockin', just keep the car running. If it works by preventing the car from starting, just don't turn it off. I'd imagine the extra cost in fuel you'd incur by constantly idling while parked is preferable to the hassle of having your car disabled and subsequently having to pay a fee to have it 're-enabled). Once you've made the (late) payment resume normal vehicle operation.

  15. The Dylatov Pass incident is one of the more freaky, but lesser known horror events of the 20th century. I'm a paranormal buff and I only learned about it in 2008. Whether the outcome was just the result of a series of unfortunate but scientifically explainable events or something more of the paranormal variety, here are some key takeaways from its Wikipedia page:

-Six of the group members died of hypothermia and three of fatal injuries.
-There were no indications of other people nearby apart from the nine travelers on Kholat Syakhl, nor anyone in the surrounding areas.
-The tent had been ripped open from within.
-The victims had died 6 to 8 hours after their last meal.
-Traces from the camp showed that all group members left the camp of their own accord, on foot.
-To dispel the theory of an attack by the indigenous Mansi people, Dr. Boris Vozrozhdenny stated that the fatal injuries of the three bodies could not have been caused by another human being, "because the force of the blows had been too strong and no soft tissue had been damaged".[2]
-Forensic radiation tests had shown high doses of radioactive contamination on the clothes of a few victims.[2]
-Released documents contained no information about the condition of the skiers' internal organs.

No matter how you slice it (no pun intended), this is some freaky shit.
