The root servers are the authoritative DNS servers for the top level domains (TLDs) - i.e..com,.net,.edu, etc.... This has nothing to do with the "3 business day" thing you're talking about. Even the TLD servers aren't responsible for that delay. You're referring to the time it takes for non-authoritative DNS servers to clear their caches. Big difference....certainly not "insightful"./x
Uhhh...then how do silencers work then...do they slow the bullet down to subsonic speeds? No, I didn't think so. They muffle the sound of that there "chemical reaction" by increasing the volume (of space) at the end of the barrel so that the highly pressurized gas can decompress before it hits regular air. Supersonic rounds will still generate a sonic boom, but it's small in comparison to the pop of highly compressed air decompressing rapidly. The sound is more of a "crack" than a "bang".
You can take the slug or BBs out of a shotgun shell, and I guarantee it will still go bang when you pull the trigger.
It even automagically completes as you type. It's extremely slick and fast if you already know the path you want.
Not really. It does autocomplete, but if I directly type "/usr/bin/xmms" and hit enter, I have to wait for the entire/usr/bin directory to load. It's really annoying. I haven't tried the ctrl-l method, hopefully it bypasses the mandatory entire directory listing.
I disagree. I pay Red Hat, in part, so I don't have to worry about future IP related hastles. I appreciate the fact they have lawyers looking over the zillions of "open source" licenses...it saves me time and money. If I wish to use a non-RMS-approved "free" license, I'll do that at my own risk./x
The main problems I have had are the lack of MP3 support out of the box, and no default inclusion of niceties like flash, nvidia drivers, and java (I know they are not open source but a quick-download utility to get them separately would be nice).
To clear things up, VNC provides multiple desktops under unix. Only one for Windows (same as what's on the console).
You cannot install MS Terminal Server on a "samba box" (whatever the hell/that/ means...I assume a non-windows box) unless you are using running it under Wine or VMware, etc...

too (and video games).
Recently WMS decided to drop pinball machines, which is a shame, since they made the best in the world. Now we're stuck with Stern and Sega (formerly Data East), but I heard Sega has or will stop pinball production. Being a pinball tech, I was really sad to hear WMS dropped pinballs.
I guess Williams will now focus on slot machines,
Midway will make home based games, and Bally will just plain die (?)
Don't use a regular tv. It won't work.
I know of no arcade game that uses a typical TV monitor. Period. (I used to manage an electronics deptartment for a major arcade game distributor)/x
I agree that military innovation is certainly not a Bad Thing (as long as it's for OUR side;-) One problem, though. The ENIAC was built for the Army, not the Navy. Computer History/x

An answer for your ideas? Your ideas are questions? Huh? Too much ambiguity....discard.

I personally welcome our new Googlezon overlords.
Seems pretty insightful to me...
Try reading the parent's entire post. Or, just read the last line that goes like this:

"If you look at the trends out to 2050 and 2100, the US is NOT the problem - it's China and India."
I got 10kbps down, peaked at 10 going out, then it died. I'm getting 0 down and 1 up. Slashdot Effect on a seed server?

The US Army Research Laboratory will be receiving two 2,000+ precessor super computers running Linux. ARL already has a 256 processor Linux cluster that throws off enough heat to cook the staff dinner...gotta wonder how much these suckers will dissipate.
This may work fine for a lan, but does any sane person allow netbios over tcp-ip past the border router?
I use VNC and Terminal Services daily inside the lan. Outside I prefer VNC with ssh tunneling.

arl.mil's domain recently changed to arl.army.mil try there. Oh, yeah...ARL does filter ICMP...sorry! /x
