  1. Looks like the I-Opener on Sony's Wireless Webpad · · Score: 1

with a few different features it looks like the i-opener with a seriously jacked up price. but with sony's SDMI crap, i wonder how it would react to MP3's and things of that kind. it doesn't say anything about a HD or any hardware specs. but i'm thinking it'll prolly be the same situation too -> hours after it's released, someone cracks it and sony throws a fit. I still wouldn't buy it becaues it's Sony.

  2. Not to be a ..... on H1B Tech Visa Workers Being Deported From U.S. · · Score: 1

Not to be a dick or anything, but maybe I could get a job now. But really, is there really a shortage of qualified workers? There is about 5 or 6 people other than me, I know doing database programming and can't find a job within 100 miles of home. We may not have degrees yet but I can tell you that we are more than qualified.

  3. Re:Of course they should skip it on Techies Saying No To College · · Score: 2

college is good but this time I've spent there I haven't learned enough to do anything. They can't really teach anything of revelance that I don't already know as far as CIS. The classes that I've had taech a trival amount of what can really be done. For instance, Java as far as the class got was String handling and excepting input at a command line. Java, from what i know about it is mostly GUI's and Applets. We didn't cover that and neither did the $90, required book. I bought the JAVA:SourceBook for $10 at Borders on the reduced rack and it covers a hell of a lot more, more than what I paid $420cr/hr for. The HTML class, I shit you not, was a fucking joke. I started HTML about 3 years ago. The final was to make a web page and post it on a server. That is it. I was taking C++ before my finanical aid got fuckered up, and that seem like a walk in the park too. I asked my instructor about any classes that dealt with C only and he said that C is like taboo, no one wants to teach it. With Linux that is all that is really used. Linux is anouther. It's like a bad word in school. I had a unix class that i tested out of the first week. i'm not trying to say i'm the smartest motherfucker in the world but at least I would like to have a class that is a challenge. I've come to the conclusion that if you need to learn anything: do it your self. College is really a toss up. if you have the opertunity to go then go, if not then so be it. My brother didn't go and he makes a hell of lot more than I do.

I've never had to use the kernel support like this but I have used the FreeBSD mail list. I had one problem with my sound card. I e-mail them and I had about 5 replies in about 2 hours. I was surprised. Maybe they have a good style that could be somewhat adapted?

  12. puters @ school on Laptop Exams? · · Score: 1

I'm a freshmen at the University of Akron. I haven't taken a notebook to school since the second week of class. I telnet in to my puter at home and use pico or vi (which ever I'm in the mood for) take my notes there. I can even print them from school and they are ready when i get home. All of my classes I have a computer in front of me and they all have internet connections. Now al i need is online books for the courses. That would save me about $400 in books a semester.

  14. hmmmm on What Does the Audio Home Recording Act Really Allow? · · Score: 2

Being a publisher of my own music and being in a band for 10 years, I just have to say that the last parafraph in the RIAA statement is bullshit, artist don't get shit from their CD sales. The record companies do. On a normal contract, if the band is lucky, on a $17 CD at Camelot Music the artist will get about $1.00 of that CD. If a band sells more than 100,000 CD's that is $100,000 for the band. Then you have to pay for the production of the CD ( last time i looked Sony's studio was $130,000 a day ), then pay your manager ( they take 30% ), and all the other expenses ( equipement mostly ). After all the bills are paid the average musician makes about $20,000 from the sales of CD's. I'm pretty sure the snail mail man makes more. That is why you pay $35.00 for a t-shirt at a concert. All the money is made from touring, record companies pay for some of the initial amount to start the tour, but it all get's paid back to the company. By the looks of the article the RIAA makes it sound like MP3's and shit like that is hurting the artists but it's not the companies are taking a very small hit.
