I'm not quite sure who you will be talking to and what exactly you mean, but if you're talking to the programmers, prepare to be surprised at the attitude. I was a contractor at Microsoft. What language did I program in? Perl. While there, I worked alongside Linux advocates and other free software fans. I heard more Windows bashing there than I have at my non-M$ jobs. The programmers there are geeks. They're likely to already agree with you.
Now if you're talking to the marketing or legal departments, good luck. I don't know if they can even turn on their computers.
****If Nike or the Gap says that they have to pay their workers in other countries low wages to contain expenses, find out how much of that expense is a Microsoft tax for crappy, insecure software that comes with no warranty, and the tech support solution is often "pay us for the upgrade".****
Oh come on here. Even if we assume that Nike has a computer for every single employee, and buys fresh copies of Windows and Office for every computer every single year, we're talking $200 a year/person. Would you feel warm and fuzzy towards Nike if they gave people a dime an hour raise? Factor in that they don't buy computers for their assembly line workers and they wouldn't have to buy new tools every year, and we're closer to 1/10 of a cent per hour. Good try, but no.
That's not fair either because there are things like tv and video games that weren't competition for the movies in the 30's. I don't think there can be just one metric.
See I can't see that the warning is adequate. If you package something that looks just like a cd and it's housed in the cd section, consumers should expect it to play like a cd unless there's a HUGE warning on it.
"Apple designs its CD drives to support media that conforms to such standards. Apple computers are not designed to support copyright protected media that do not conform to such standards. Therefore, any attempt to use non standard discs with Apple CD drives will be considered a misapplication of the product. Under the terms of Apple's One-Year Limited Warranty, AppleCare Protection Plan, or other AppleCare agreement any misapplication of the product is excluded from Apple's repair coverage. "
So not only is the computer broken because you didn't see the fine print and tried to play a cd in it, but you have to pay for the repairs.
ICQ? I get those a lot. The first time I fell for it because it was a very short script. ("Hi, you want to chat?" "I'm $name, what's yours?" "Well I have to go. Check out my website at $url") However when you see the same script 10 or 15 times, it becomes a lot less convincing.
When I went to Bard College, a movie (Chief Zabu) was filmed there. They edited scenes from our school library to make it look like it was the big public library in New York. They made it look like a field in the back of one building was in back of another. This happens all the time. It's a fictional work.
Even if I can't fit all 1500 cds onto a player, I'd rather have one that lets me get closer to that goal. Since I use it at work or in my car, the size of the player isn't that important. Why is this hard to understand?
I agree that for many people it's a great player. My point is that, for me, it's more important to have storage space than a faster one time upload. Different people have different needs. How does saying that make me a jerk?
"There is no way any objective person could think this unit is superior."
It depends on your needs again. I realise that a lot of people love their iPods, but I wish they'd see that it's not the perfect solution for everyone. I have some 1500 cds in my collection. The power of an MP3 player for me is that I can decide to listen to THAT Dark Star or Black Clouds or Tweezer and odds are I'd have it with me. 10 gigs just doesn't cut it.
Depends on your needs. I'm finding that the 20 gig hd my Neo has isn't large enough and plan to throw a 30-40 gig drive in. The 10 gig cap and the fact that it won't work well with my computer makes the iPod not the best player for me.
One game that veers way too far into the realism category is Grand Turismo 3. I was at a friend's house and I just wanted to race around the Seattle course like a madman. The game wouldn't let me. I had to pass a bunch of tests before it would unlock the course. That struck me as going too far.
In terms of the argument it could work. The orginal poster wasn't saying what the best picture was as much as what it wasn't. If I saw two films and liked one a lot better, I wouldn't call the second one the best of the year.
That is indeed the argument; is a car something beyond a device to get you from point A to point B? In my world, it isn't, so I have a Saturn. It gets good mileage and it rarely has had problems so far at least. That's a good car to me.
The same thing holds with computers. A computer is a device for me to get things done that I couldn't do without them. I'm not a fan of computers, I'm a fan of what I can do with them. That's why I never bought a mac, and don't think I ever will.

Argh, I meant "life" of course.
Stupid not hitting the preview button first...
I see.
Taking drugs and watching tv == bad
Drinking and playing around with your computer == having a live.
I'm having a problem seeing the distinction here.
Moreover, something people forget is that Spider-Man has been out for twice as long as AOTC. Comparing apples to apples, AOTC made 202 million over its first twelve days and Spider-Man made 232 million.
Yeah AOTC had the advantage of Memorial Day weekend, but it also had to play against Spider-Man, where SM had a much easier field.
I don't know if I'd draw any conclusions based on Box Office numbers, but this isn't exactly a runaway race here.
Good thing 51 votes are required then.
Actually it's S4 that the DVD's are up to. My set just arrived last week... Mmmmmmmm multiregion dvd player.
Oddly S2 of Angel came out in March or so. They're only a season behind what's airing.
Do you have a source for the majority argument? PBS claim 18% of their budget comes from the government.

Well String Cheese Incident are doing this with their On the Road series.
I can see DC's defense now. "Sony advertises onm Earth Prime's Time Square. We were trying to accurately depict Earth 1."

If the barriers we have left to worry about are what Oscar awards people are winning, then racism is pretty much over.
I think you mean Windows 98, not Win95.

Reinstalled windows every month? How did you manange that? I've had windows boxes for 7 years now and have had to reinstall exactly once.
