Why, oh why Slashdot keeps posting the opinion of the submitter of the story when it is clearly biased? Why not just link and let people comment about it?
I'm going at university doing a BS in Software Engineering (to be a certificated Software Enginner, that is). Right now all classes are way to easy (I really don't need anyone to explain to me that information is coded with 0's and 1's or what a sorting algorithm is).
So I don't go to my classes, have a decent programming job, do the exams, get good grades and the nice paper at the end.
It was used at my university to teach 3D modeling, but that class was replaced by a more advanced OpenGL course. OpenInventor is a superset of OpenGL, easier to use but I'd say less performant. But it's really easy to use which make it really fun.
I really don't see where you going with this. We are just trying to protect our culture and our language. I do respect most of Canadians. I'm a Quebecker, but a Canadian too, as long as Canada doesn't become like the USA. Anything but being american...
Woah, thanks for those two tips, emacs just got even better for me. I use it regularly, I find it easy to move around files with it, but I need more tips like those ones. Anyone knows where to get some more?
Agreed with that, it is also poorly documented, as this following claim about 3DFX drivers...
[...]3dfx's drivers proved to be very fast even without direct hardware access.
That's wrong, in a recent review on linuxgames , 3DFX scored last against Matrox, Nvidia and others in the speed comparison between the windows drivers and the linux drivers.

You fragged me! You bastard!
I'm taking that to court, you'll regret that killing spree...
...but to maintain that one language is easier to maintain or read than any other is just plain wrong. I can write lousy code in Perl just as easily as I can in Visual Basic, C, Java, FORTRAN, or any of the myriad other computer programming languages out there. To claim otherwise is ignorant.
I claim otherwise and I'm not ignorant.
Some languages do have a clearer syntax than others. You imply that some assembly or intercal code would be as easy to maintain as VB or C if it's coded straight? This is just plain wrong.
Even if it comes from a legit company, or from some moron that really thinks he can do that 5000$ a month sitting on his ass in front of his computer, spam is still spam. I don't want any, if I didn't ask for it then it's because I don't want it.
This amaze me. Sincerly I didn't even ever thought that it would be possible. Nothing similar ever happened to anyone I know. But then, maybe laws about it are a little stricter here (Quebec). Anyway, good luck with your lawsuit.
mmm well you seem to be really getting a lot of shit from telemarketers. Eh, this must be because you live in the US, where capitalism rules everything. I guess it's a bit better over here (Quebec), since I never had such problems.
Spam can be sent in wide quantities without much effort, all being "automatised" by the use of computers. You can't tell them "remove me from your list" (or be warned if you try, you'll get even more spam).
But telemarketers can't put a computer that will automatically call all phone numbers and play a recorder message, that would be illegal. At least you are in communication with a human, and have the right to tell them to stop calling you.
It's the spam laws that need to be improved. Personally telemarketers don't bother me, I'm not shy of just saying "no.".
I don't remember what it was, but it's not to difficult to set a password and reverse XOR it to get the orignal string back.
That is, if you have the string that has been used as a XOR mask, else if you don't have access to that string at all and don't know what the original password is, you are screwed. XOR'ing CAN BE used for a really strong symetric encryption, that is if the string used to make the mask is as long as the original string, and if you use it only once.
The problem is then to transmit that masking string...
my mistake, don't know where I saw that we were the 2nd...
gotta put my head in the ground and try to be forgotten now...
Note: On 3 October 2000, we revised this list to add two mistakenly omitted applications and to make minor corrections to some TLD and applicant data.
Is the date now becoming another ICANN assigned number??

Moderate that up to interesting, there are very good points in there, and I don't see anything offtopic here...
Don't you mean, "pour décourager les autres" ??
What you just said is the exact opposite of what you mean.
I do agree with you though...

Obviously some people have no sense of humor. This is really funny (I especially like the part about George W. Bush).
Come on, moderators, don't be stupid and moderate that post up.

Performance about as good as under Windows?
If half the frame rate means "about", then you are right on this point.
