This has never bothered them. You could still just rent the movie and connect your video player to the dvd to copy the movie. The point of it all is: You can't copy DVDs, losing the quality and all.
So... maybe if the copyright was agains slashdot. But consider this:
If i wrote a screenplay (as in your example), and then put it out as "open for everyone to use"... then you came along, added a character to the screenplay, and said "Hey this is my copyrighted information. You have to agree to my license agreement if you wanna use it!"
Really, how long would that hold? The only reasonable answer is that the kerberos specification is not microsoft's, and as far as I know, you can't copyright or demand licenses on things that aren't yours.
If not, then I'd be entirely free do do whatever I want with whatever copyrigthed matherial I want, as long as I change it slightly.
While telling people where to find copies of a document is, arguably, a free speech issue, posting verbatim copies of a copyrighted work clearly isn't.
Copyrighted? It's not copyrighted, no matter how much they want you to think so. Do you even know what it is? Hey its Kerberos, it's supposed to be an open specification! And since this document is supposed to prove they didnt alter it in any way... yeah.
Even if you look at it from their side, they label it a "trade secret". Afaik, you can't copyright a trade secret, and they have little legal protection.
Everybody knows the big US domains (.com,.org,.net,.edu,.gov).
Boy now weren't most of those international domains? For your info, the US top domain is.... (drumroll please).us! The fact that almost noone uses it makes.com a US domain just as much as the fact that.se is hardly used by swedish companies makes.com a swedish domain.
It's really funny. I see a lot of people bursting arteries because we Americans actually write software in American English and not Esperanto or Norwegian. Aren't there any software programmers or companies in your countries? Write your own software if it's such a bad problem not being allowed to spell your name with an umlaut or a thorn or an edh.
This is so common its almost funny. And very american... "hey theyre complaining about us using our own language!"
If you just took a look at the problem even you could understand. My language has three additional letters, å ä ö. Most asian languages use a whole different character set. How funny would you think it was if you couldn't make your application accept your name, or type a filename in your own language?
It's not about the language you code in, it's about the lower-level language possibilities of the system.
I support the internationalization stuff, but hwoo boy, what's with all this: "those stupid americans write software in American english! What, do they think theirs is the world's only language? When will they wake up and start writing software in Spanish and Portugese?!?"
Really, please, show me one example of where someone said anything similar to that... I've surely never seen anything remotely like it. It just makes you look stupid.
No, they made a scripting language that does this. Just like you can put an rm -rf * in a bash script file. It isn't hard. In order for ILOVEYOU to run, the user spesificaly needs to run the file themselves There isn't much MS can do about this, is there?
Maybe not let the email client say "here's a text file, click on it to read" but, "this fscking file ends with a.vbs, which means its a program that you run if you open it".
Actually, its a hell of a lot more files than just those... and oh, did you ever consider that some companies have actually USED the jpg pictures? no? Oh and lots and lots of companies have had to take down mail servers, bring back backups, put new filters on their servers... etc etc etc.
Just because all you have is illegally copied music and porn doesnt mean others dont have legitimate use for the files they lost, or maybe they actually needed to send an important email?
The day you show me a unix email client that shows users "This is a text file" (for a bash script) and then when you click on it, runs the damn thing... then i'll take that comparision.
The feature or bug in M$ Outlook is there because it is supposed to be helpful (which it probably isn't), but it is not malicious, and would not causes any damage if somebody else had not tried to be malicious.
Yes, and I guess this means we should all save passwords plaintext and in world-readable files shouldnt we? I mean, hey nothing bad will happen unless someone else has some malicious intent!
Point being, if you make software that enables a fscking email to access/erase files on your disks, and automaticly send itself onward to everyone in your address book isnt the prime cause of this? Come ON.
If you wanna compare air to something around computers, compare it to power. This wouldnt have happened without power. It's more like leaving your window open when you go to a vacation and then with a surprised look saying "hey I did nothing wrong" when you get back and nothing of value remains in your house.
"might" isnt good enough, it probably already is. But then again... lets just imagine the cost of all NT crashes, companies having to hire "NT professionals" to fix their machines, cost of installing service packs, downtime of servers or programs...
This just adds a tiny number on the end of it... Microsoft may have earned alot of money, but that's just a fraction of the money they've cost other companies and individuals.
Finally they're starting to get it! Like what would I need a player with a tiny bit of RAM and nothing more for? Combine it with a disk or with CDs and it actually starts getting really interesting.
However, there is a short license agreement at the bottom of every page and the full agreement on pages 11 and 12.
Does this mean I can publish something on the 'net and put "You have to pay me $100" on the bottom of each page, put my "full agreement" containing how to get the money to me on pages 11 and 12 and then every poor sucker who happens to read it has to send me the money? Since when could you agree to something by simply reading?
If you had some capabilities of intelligent thought you might arrive at the conclusion that everyone might not want to see porn. I dont. So if I dont want to see porn, I want to be able to block everything from.sex or.xxx or whatever, and that way not have to run into it one way or another (which you sometimes do, no matter how you try to avoid it).
The point of having a.sex is that you can choose whether you want it or not. I dont, you do. Fine for everyone. Plus you'll know exactly where to look when you wanna exercise your right hand.
If they'd done this, together with some reasonable rules for how many domains one company could register, before this mess got bad, it would have been good. Now it'll just make everything even worse.
Well take my gf for an example, she downloads heaps and heaps of mp3s... of what? Music she has. On tapes. What is it, if i bought the tape, am I only entitled to a low-quality version of the song?
Also, CDs today are so f**king overpriced it's silly. They keep raising the price claiming loads of bs reasons... hey i used to buy lots and lots of CDs but it's simply getting way too expensive. So I can use napster to download some songs... I find some that are really good and go buy the CD. I used to be able to buy a CD just cause "this seems cool". It's too expensive now. I'd say there are like 10-15 CDs i wouldnt have bought if I hadn't heard the songs downloaded from napster first.
If you're willing to play fair, there are tons of fair uses for it.

Noooo... that'd only make it worse. Microsoft would sue slashdot for patent infringement, hey the whole "stupid-eula" thing was their idea first!

I think it's /dev/null...

And it's not like little Edna Normal-dumb-user has that setting off, which is the default... noooooooo.
I don't consider something secure until it's secure by default.

Well really, all they need to do is compile the code and see if the result matches.
Good point... might be better with a .xxx to have the "porn" sites on. (Where to draw the line might be a small problem but i doubt it'd be too hard).
Yes he's real... I've seen some people being online with him and even talked about it... - before all this became public. Bleh.
The point of having a .sex is that you can choose whether you want it or not. I dont, you do. Fine for everyone. Plus you'll know exactly where to look when you wanna exercise your right hand.

Of course not, the concert and album are separate things. The CD and tape are just copies of the same mastertape.
Also, CDs today are so f**king overpriced it's silly. They keep raising the price claiming loads of bs reasons... hey i used to buy lots and lots of CDs but it's simply getting way too expensive. Here.
Because they didn't own Netscape when they started making CDs and because the new version of Netscape isnt finished yet.
Actually, I think it's not. When the work on mozilla started, the old netscape code was threwn away and they started from scratch.
