I don't know how much my coworkers make, but given that the youngest of them is 5 years older than me (and they're all more experienced than me) I expect that they make more than I do. And I don't care if my title includes "engineer" or not. I'd be happy being called a "programmer" if the job and benefits were the same.

As for the English lit deadbeats, the degrees my closer friends hold range from business, history, various engineering disciplines, to some medical-related stuff.

Since the dawn of the "HD age," Street Fighter has seen 3 new releases (Street Fighter IV, Super Street Fighter IV, and Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition), an HD remake of an older game (Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix), and a fan-service release of another popular entry (Street Fighter III 3rd Strike: Online Edition). Wow, Capcom's Street Fighter naming system is terrible.

Uhh... C# is more of a "niche" language than Python, and maybe even Ruby. Microsoft has all but killed C# on the desktop, which means its pretty much only useful as a server-side language, and is even more limited by the fact that you have to use a Windows server (unless you want to try running Mono).

C is a great language, but not nearly as friendly as Python. And Python doesn't have "whitespace issues" unless you're a moron or use a terrible editor. Lack of curly braces doesn't make a language immature. There's just so much wrong with your comment; it's no wonder you posted anonymously.

I skimmed through the store, and it looks like most of what is up there is FOSS. I think the perceived value in such a "store" is not like that of the App Store or Google Play Store where it essentially represents the one place where you can go and get software, but instead represents a place where you can get software that is known to run well on the Raspberry Pi, which is very limited in resources compared to typical desktop computers.

Until they decide to restrict you from running software that doesn't come from the Raspberry Pi Store (which won't happen), I see no problem in this.

I don't think you understand the use of force as it pertains to law enforcement. It is not binary, it is not a concept where you are either granted use of force or you are not. There are several levels of use of force, with deadly force being at the top, and subdual techniques such as tasers, pepper spray, and unleashing a K-9 being right under it. From the information given, there was no reason to escalate to that level. If she was violently resisting arrest, then maybe it would have been justified. As it is, two officers should have been able to get the situation under control without the need for tasers. The primary role of a police officer is to protect; that includes the protection of all citizens, even if they are behaving badly. By jumping one or two levels of escalation of force and tasing her, putting her at a significant risk of death or serious harm, they completely failed to carry out their primary duty.

  24. Re:This just in... on New Hampshire Cops Use Taser On Woman Buying Too Many iPhones · · Score: 5, Insightful

I have some police training from when I was in the military, and with it, training on the use of force. Use of a taser or pepper spray should be limited to subduing threatening individuals where lethal force is not necessary. The question you should ask yourself first is "Is this person going to harm myself or someone else without much risk of fatality?". If you can answer "yes" to that, then it's permissible to use a taser. These cops are assholes and should be held responsible for their abuse, and anyone in their chain of command who is covering for them should receive at least the same punishment. As long as we allow cops the indiscriminate use of weapons like tasers and pepper spray to subdue non-threatening citizens, this is only going to get worse.
