All the notebooks show some kind of Windoze on them. The bottom of the page has this tag line: "HP PCs use genuine Microsoft® Windows®"
Thailand is a wonderful place to visit with a lot of great people. Even if you can't get a good Linux laptop online I suggest a trip there.
Those of you out there running with >=1 gig of memory should be looking at ECC. How much this hits performance would be an interesting subject. I've heard ~5% At least I don't worry about cosmic rays; I use ECC!
I installed all my best software on an ext3 partition! Ha! Take that Mr. Gates!
Of course now they will probable start including ext3 drivers in the next Windoze.
If the store won't take it back just use it anyway

California EULA Lawsuit
·
· Score: 3, Insightful
You tried to keep your end of the bargain: you tried to return it the the place of purchase for refund as specified on the license. If Microsoft or Symantec doesn't keep up their end by letting you return it then the EULA should be null and void and you should be able to install it on all your computers or whatever you wish. Of course if the license says the software will install spyware and thats the reason why you don't want to use it, well...... I think the suit makes a lot of sense!
For an extra $1 a month the choice is clear: Sirius and NO commercials. With satelite radio there are 4 killer apps: 1- Display of artist and title 2- Variety and availability of niche channels 3- You can listen to your favorite station in Montana 4- No commercials!
I love my Sirius radio. I learn a lot from the display and I never have to hear a commercial during my commute.

DVI Flat Panels?

No manufacturer removes the converters. I have never seen an LCD display without analog input capability. I use DVI to a Viewsonic at home and there is an Eizo at work with DVI. Both are also analog capable. I've seen both displays run using analog and the improvement with DVI is striking. If you are spending the bucks on an LCD get DVI on your video card. GeForce2 based cards with DVI are around for ~ US$60
You don't need 115v to shred! This is only crap the shredding industry feeds to you to get you to upgrade! Try running the motor with 80volts and see how long it will run. So it runs slower. You don't need a 3Ghz cpu either!
Thousands of Americans are killed by criminals using guns. According to
well documented research over 160,000,000 people have been killed by
totalitarian governments in this past century. Look here for some eye
opening figures. The average person on the planet in the past
century had a much
greater chance of being killed by a dictator as a fellow citizen in an
armed free society. In other words, guns are much more dangerous when
concentrated in the hands of a government then in the hands of a free
people.
I had a very interesing visit to the Sydney Australia Jewish
museum
There was an old New York Times from the 1930s with an article about
how Adolf Hitler passed a gun control law banning Jews from possesing
guns. I imagine there were a lot fewer jews killing each other after
that law was passed!
I strongly suggest looking at the first link above. It is really
shocking what totalitarian governments have done in the 20th century.
What a load of hogwash! Everything on the internet requires broadband. Try loading the BBC's home page with dialup. Try looking at the weather channel and seeing a weather map. How about doing some research with google and clicking on 5 different links before you find the information you were after.
I teach my kids that if the result they want doesn't flash up on the screen instantly than the computer or the network or something is too slow!
So get a big tank of nitrogen and play your DVDs in a nitrogen filled player. The trick will be to open the package and get it in the nitrogen filled enviornment with the least air contamination, then refill the player or storage area with nitrogen. This does wonders for wine storage too!
From this site:

Is the following EULA language:
# RIGHT TO TERMINATE NETWORK-BASED SERVICES: By using the Licensed Software, you acknowledge and agree that BroadJump and SBC Internet Services shall at all times retain the right to terminate any and all on-going network-based services that you receive pursuant to your use of the Licensed Software for any reason whatsoever, including without limitation your refusal to allow BroadJump and/or SBC Internet Services to install on your computer any upgrade or modification to the Licensed Software in the future.
You better keep that 486 honeypot running with the Broadjump software!
You can get SCSI versions of DVD-RAM recorders which is the best backup format and is used in home DVD-recorders for TV. I'm not sure if you can get DVD-R in SCSI. I use an IDE DVD-R/DVD-RAM drive which works fine under Linux and Windoze. My Hard Disks are SCSI (my next computer will use IDE disks!)
Once the 4.7g DVD wars are over the next format of "Blue DVD" will emerge. Then I can get Titanic in 1080 HDTV on a home player. Then we'll all have to buy new burners.
How about this quote from the BBC story: "Mexico, for instance, has mandated open source in its education system - although it is widely believed to have botched the implementation."
What is this about? Does anyone know about this? Is Mexico's experience going to make Linux look bad? Will Mexican schools look to Apple and Microsoft now?
Microsoft just put in a back door for the FBI to load a kernel module that won't show up in the Task Manager. Why should they make it so you have to do anything to get the key logger running? Nefarious kernel modules are the perfect way to do this and are well known in *nix cracker tools. Take a look at line 8,778,204 of the Windows XP code to see what I mean......
If the government gets $Billions from the Tobacco companies, cigarettes will be around for a while. If the Government needs one computer OS that they can get into when they want to, they will let Microsoft continue to monopolize operating systems.
$5000 for Microsoft software and $3000 for a PIII IDE 256MB system vs.
$8000 in Dual Xeon 1024MB 15,000rpm Ultra160 HD and $0 in free software.
A comparison of a $10,000 setup with a $5000 setup is not fair! All these comparisons ignore the fact that in real life the money for the Microsoft software would be coming out of the hardware budget.
Will you also buy 5 "Blu Disk" HDTV 1080i versions of all your matrix and animatrix disks when that format is available?

Do you or IBM fell that Linux will make inroads on PC desktops?
I too have a used IDSL CopperRocket and an Impact IQ ISDN "modem" and a USR Sportster 128 ISA card. Best offer over $10 for any of them!
