    I had similar problems, but did eventually get it working. IIRC, I had to set up my router to give my desktop a static IP address and then set up firewall exceptions for various ports coming from that IP address. I'd played GTA4 with an offline account and I decided I'd see how it worked with an online account. Totally not worth the effort.

    So your evidence of how fragile they are comes from about 70-80 years ago? Of course, nothing could have possibly changed since then.

    Also, RTFA, they address the question of vulnerability of their military observation blimp (hint, it's like trying to shoot down a plastic bag flapping in the breeze. Even with a hole, gas seeps out very slowly.

    So, it's like a cruise ship, but faster. And that's a bad thing? Obviously it doesn't compare favorably to a jet airliner if your only objective is to get from A to B, but if your objective is to enjoy the ride (kinda like on a cruise) then it seems pretty awesome.

    Keep on spreading that FUD. There is no reason why these computers would be used for anything other than running the scanners so there should be close to zero chance of it being exposed to threats from the outside.

    If these computers are directly connected to the public internet, then we have bigger problems, regardless of what operating system they are running.

    currently written to store images, if it gets on the screen, you have a bitmap right there and just have to write it to a file. Making that modification might take a few man-hours for a system that probably took dozens of man-years to create in the first place.

    Doesn't even take any modification. Alt-Print Screen, paste into image software, click save, post on internet, ????, profit.

    RTFA, or even the summary. They are not in the same bill. Republicans decided to withhold their votes on a bunch of unrelated bills because they didn't get their way on this one bill.

    I believe they call it bi-partisanship. Everybody else would call it "my way or the highway".

    I can't imagine that the audience this is aimed at is likely to own an HDTV, so presumably they'll be trying to read masses of blurry text on an older SDTV. Sounds like fun.

    And now with DRM schemes that require software to phone home, once the servers used for authentication are retired, those particular pieces will be much more difficult to preserve. And let's not even get started with online only games like WoW. How would you preserve a MMORPG when the servers no longer exists? And even if you somehow manage to recreate a server, without the players, it's not the same experience.

    It is not as if employers are unaware that people go to parties when they are in college, nor is it the case that employers are unaware of what happens at college parties...

    But that's kinda my point. Initially people are going to get screwed by it, but eventually employers will realize that they don't have a single candidate that doesn't have something embarrassing about them online and they will have to learn to accept it. No candidate is completely clean, so they'll have to stop being so judgmental.

    Maybe this kind of thing will cause a shift in people's opinions. Perhaps when people realize that everybody has made bad decisions in their life, everybody's got too drunk and done something stupid and nobody is perfect, the world will be a better place for it.

    I was going to say something similar. I grew up on text-based adventure games and I think they greatly improved my reading and reasoning skills. Sadly, they are obsolete now and even I have no patience for them. Modern point-and-click adventures are far too dumbed down.
