  1. funny videos on Making Science and Math Kid Friendly? · · Score: 2, Insightful

When I was younger I used to watch Bill Nye, Beakman's World, and Newton's Apple. I loved these shows and they were the first things to spark my interest in science and technology. These shows stand out because they are both entertaining and educational (the dreaded edutainment :) ). They kept my interest because they used humor to help teach. Note, all those shows are aimed at different age people, yet I enjoyed them throughout my elementary school years.

Now that I am in high school, I still think entertaining, funny videos are a great way to learn. The more sexual innuendos, the better. For example, thanks to the World of Chemistry video series, I'll never forget that pv=nrt. Hell, my brother won't ever forget because I have talked about it so much. Here is what happens: They are describing the gas laws and say how pv=nrt or, to help you remember it, "pervnert." Then they cut to a clip of a guy in a trench coat walking down the street. He approaches a women, "Excuse me miss." He flings open his trench coat wearing only a sign saying pv=nrt over his genetalia. As he makes a twirling motion with his pelvis, the woman shrieks and runs away. Now I'll never forget that equation. There are also sexual innuendos and hidden jokes in the series, which really keeps your attention. I imagine this would immensely help those that don't enjoy chemistry.

In conclusion: funny videos that keep kids' attention work wonders. Suit the videos to the age group.

Yes. I think existing customers should all go buy some songs right now that they have been holding back on. I am very tempted myself. Then, the next time Steve goes to talk to the RIAA/record people, he can show them a /very/ interesting slide in Keynote. "This is a graph of the daily song purchases on iTunes. See how it starts a plateau right here? That was the day Fairplay was cracked. :) "

While the RIAA is too stubborn to allow them to remove DRM, at least it will make them think. Then, maybe a few years down the line when they have some common sense smacked into them, they might allow iTunes to drop DRM.

If you want to exercise 40 minutes a day (cardiovascular), then it would take an estimated 40 minutes more out of your day to do so at the gym versus just riding a bike to work. You might, however, not want to come into work sweaty and out of breath. I ride my bike to school nearly every day, so I get a lot of exercise with just a slightly longer commute. If I had 7th period, then my commute would actually be the same because of all the extra traffic from students getting out.

Hahaha, I remember that. Thanks for mentioning the name. I was talking about the Google thing on my website and I mentioned how this was something reminiscent of the dot-com days. I used your service for a while, I remember uploading a gig or two to the servers by leaving the connection on overnight. I believe I was on dialup at the time, so that was a big feat. In the end, I never really used it that much.

That 'compression' you speak of sounds interesting, care to reveal details?

It is probably a good thing you didn't get noticed by the RIAA (or did you?). If they had a hissy fit of the MP3.com streaming thing (which I also tried), they would probably be up in arms against this too.

It does charge it. On this Segway page (under the San Francisco section), it says the HT has regenerative braking. Thus, pulling it around charges it to. My neighbor occasionally takes one home from his office (at Amazon.com) and one day he was walking home with a dead Segway. It had ran out of battery on the way back. However, by pulling it around and down the hill, it slowly gains energy back. Plus, if you wait a little while, he says it magically finds some more energy (just a little) hidden away :). So, as long as you are not /too/ far away, you can still get some use out of it.

That is false for one simple reason, there are no releases on SACD or DVD-A that aren't also available in CD format. The sole selling point of SACD and DVD-A is the superior sound quality.

Actually, not true. With DVD-A you can make surround sound songs. The Blue Man Group released their first album "Audio" on both CD and DVD-A. The DVD-A version features surround sound mixes of all the songs. Fortunately, they made it double sided with the other side being a normal DVD. On the other side is a slideshow with music playing in surround sound. Their second album, The Complex doesn't yet have a DVD-A release, but they are working on it. If you bought the Complex Tour Live DVD, you get three preview tracks from the upcoming surround mix. So, DVD-A does have an advantage with surround sound, it isn't only improved sound quality.

Well, that is a whole different discussion. Any discussion about child porn quickly degenerates, IMHO (just look at half the posts in stories about Freenet). However, what about the Diebold incident? Diebold claimed that was illegal but I and most other slashdotters didn't want that removed. What is illegal in one place may not be illegal in another. If everything that is illegal in at least one country/state/city was removed from the internet, we probably wouldn't have much left.

That is why you never delete or prune anything. I was involved in a local online community as one of the sys admins. I set the message board to have no pruning and I would never delete threads (just lock them at worst). Unfortunately, there were other admins as well. They decided to prune stuff and delete posts. This is one of the largest reasons for leaving the community, I feel stuff should never be removed from the internet. Thank Jah we have archive.org.
